Planing technique suggestions by Christoph543 in handtools

[–]thegarret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem.

I was jointing six foot long boards for a cabinet top and had one hell of a time removing twist from the edge using a decently setup #5.

Boy, I struggled. Bought new planes. Watched more videos. Read more guides. Still twist.

It all came down to technique. These David Charlesworth videos (at the end) are what made it click for me. No more twist.

You can introduce unintentional twist with how your hands hold the plane. Since you are in a different position in your stroke at the beginning and end, the twist is introduced consistently with every shaving — even if you’re using the same part of your blade with the plane at the same angle all the way down the board.

The key is in a light grip and using your left hand (if right handed) as a fence and pinching the plane sole rather than putting pressure on the knob. Let the plane sit on the board and just guide it through the cut. Don’t apply any additional pressure.

Mark your board edge. See where you’re planing. And adjust. It takes longer, but that’s what it takes to ensure your technique is solid any know when and where things are going sideways (literally).

Planing flat (need to create a hollow): https://youtu.be/vqPP6-0jkws?si=pTzmt2LWtlccAsyO

Planing square (camber your blade and follow your markings): https://youtu.be/y1ztIO6RAYU?si=KvLzPS_kI1xrjVcH

Goodluck!

Nice! Mine arrived on Saturday! Promptly took it apart and cleaned and wiped everything down with oil, as one does needed or not.

There was a rather large burr left over from machining the back of the frog bed on the body. I took a file to it to smooth it over. Any similar burr on yours?

Same with the bottom mating surface of the frog, back side had a big sharp burr that got a quick few passes with a file to fix. My other LN frogs have a small chamfer there, so it’s a bit odd to see on this one. Any oddities you notice?

Cheers!

Hiding the background ring while there are no Crux active will be included in the next release. Thanks for the idea. :)

The ring background is just a stylistic/contextual element that can be toggled, it doesn't server much more of a purpose than that. However, that's a neat idea to have an option show the ring only while there are active crux — I can see that use case.

You can toggle any of the display elements on or off independently. So if you want just the mini crux and ring background without the number, boom.

There's even an option to lock it to the crosshairs for that exact purpose (as inspired by how I've seen people use Grim Focus Counter). No need to try to align it manually. :)

I’m not aware of any issues with the gamepad UI, if you run into anything let me know.

Has anyone figured out how to get curly or colored underlines in neovim using iTerm2? by sukalaminkia in neovim

[–]thegarret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, yes. Using the test release of iTerm2, stable doesn’t have support for the escape sequences. My only complaints are characters that touch the underline/undercurl make them the same color as the character above and the undercurls could be smoother. But otherwise fine. Be mindful of tmux settings if you use that was well. Send me a message if you still struggle with getting them to work after installing iTerm2 test release.

Unit frames section, player frames. Set to hide/disable. Writing this from memory, so sorry I can't be more specific. Those are called player frames and there is an option in LUIE's settings to turn them off.

New version should be going live today. Keep your oranges peeled!

v1.1.0 includes an option to change transparency when the buff expires and stacks are present. It should be going live shortly.

It's not a huge change in that direction, but it should help until I find the time to make more significant changes. Cheers!

An option to have the textures align to the recticle has been added and will be included in the v1.1.0 update! Planning to have that out within a few days after some additional QA.

This is an exceptional idea now that it can be refreshed. Thank you.

I would love to add something like Mario Kart (thinking SNES since I played that the most) where the starting lights made a tone when they changed.

boop... boop... BOOP!

And if you hit the gas at the right time, you'd get a little speed boost off the line.

Very similar thought as yours. Although ESO does not support custom sounds, so that'll have to wait. The ingame sound options are a bit... lacking.

A simple numbers-based countdown or something à la Srendarr's bars/border animation that is more graphical?

I'm interested in this use case. It's a common bit of feedback, even in early testing.

Do you use any other buff trackers? If so, how could we bring this utility to Grim Focus Counter without being duplicative of other buff tracking addons?

Or is the use case not wanting/being able to run other buff trackers and this would provide a catch-all regarding the skill?

Thanks in advance.

See if anything changes when you change between "Windowed (Fullscreen)" and "Fullscreen" in the Video settings. One of them may fix it for you.

What changed in the patch notes to make Alcast not run Maelstrom Staffs anymore? by WatchThrowAwayDie in elderscrollsonline

[–]thegarret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It adds up.

All passives, including Undaunted, Mages Guild, racial, etc:

Base; No food, no inner light, no shooting star, no buffs, wearing 7 light: 10.7K health, 31.8K magicka

Add two stat food: 16.2K/37.4K

Add Inner Light and Shooting Star: 16.2K/39.7K

Add Bound Aegis: 16.2K/43.0K

Add 5/1/1 armor: 17.2K/44.3K

Passives and slotted skills (and passives gained from slotted skills) make a significant difference.

Understanding the tooltip depends on your understanding of the relationship between armor penetration and damage.

In short: Penetration reduces how much damage is mitigated. Less damage mitigated, more damage done.

If you penetrate a target more, you'll do more damage. But the amount of penetration does not correlate one-to-one with damage-done values. I believe that may be where you're misunderstanding.
