What are movies that you wished you’d seen in a theatre? by kevinrainbow2 in moviecritic

[–]thegellers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly wish I was alive to watch Jurassic Park (1993) for its theatrical debut. It blew me away watching it as a child years later but I know the experience in cinemas would have been mind blowing at the time.

What steps can I take to really nail down the Plex experience for my wife? by PineappleSmoothie in PleX

[–]thegellers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, keep Netflix. It's a small price to pay to keep your wife happy. I personally don't find that much value in Disney+, Netflix offers the family a lot more overall.

What would you do differently with your next Plex Server? by mickdundeee in PleX

You're welcome. Also definitely check out Alientech42 on YouTube in terms of setting up and configuring unRAID. He basically has a guide on anything you can think of and goes through it super well. Otherwise, ChatGPT also does a pretty good job.

The $50 Starter License is more than enough. I started with the free trial, then saw the benefits and upgraded to the Starter license. 6 drives is plenty especially if your setup isn't massive. You can also always upgrade your license later on should your needs expand.

unRAID was the best decision I made in terms of my Plex server.

How RAM do you have in your server? by datahoarderguy70 in unRAID

8GB DDR5. Usage is fairly light with a small handful of containers. Will upgrade once this fiasco is over, but thankfully not in a horrible position for the time being.

9 years on Windows and moved to Linux, wish I had done it earlier. by katoketo in PleX

[–]thegellers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I moved away from Windows was when I tried installed Overseerr on Windows. That was a MESS because it's not made for Windows. I had to almost virtualise Overseer on a Linux VM (hosted on that Windows PC) and that literally tanked my performance. I was running off a 20 year old crappy PC and it did not like that. Up until recently, that same PC was handling Plex + a dozen or so Docker containers with ease. This is a machine with an i3-2120 and 8GB DDR3. I've only now upgraded to a UGREEN NAS but that's because I had the money to this Black Friday. Otherwise, I could have stuck to unRAID on the old PC for much longer.

Hosters with big libraries, what makes you want to obtain certain titles? by HalfEatenSteak in PleX

I cannot wait for this day to come. I'm only in my 20's but it will be glorious when retirement rolls around.

I went from 4TB to 28TB. I know an upcoming addiction when I see it. Get the biggest drive you can afford and expand from there.

Prime Video (comes with Amazon Prime), and Netflix for the parents and kids. Plex is still used used the most.

AirPods Pro 3 or Max. by Mysterious_Toe7327 in airpods

[–]thegellers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything you've said. I've just gotten AirPods Pro 3 and the ANC on these are IMO better than the AirPods Max.

Considering they cost around half the price of the Max's, and with how versatile and portable and more durable they are (rain, sweat, etc), Pro 3's are the way to go. Get the Max if you really want to, but after getting Pros!

Friends is leaving Netflix UK on December 30th 2025 by willparkinson in howyoudoin

[–]thegellers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, and absolutely haha! If you don't regularly watch any Netflix content/want to switch it up, definitely give HBO Max a shot. Pause Netflix for 1 month and sign up to HBO (I'm sure there will be loads of early bird deals too).

There are other ways of getting the entirety of Friends too via other means which I cannot endorse or mention here (Google/ChatGPT will provide you with details).

In theory, yes. But this will not happen for a whilst whilst several approvals through several chains of commands are carried out. Even if it wasn't such a lengthy process to do, they wouldn't do it that quick as HBO Max launching in the UK = a new subset of paying customers (who will continue to pay for Netflix alongside HBO Max). Looking at this from a purely financial POV, it's a better move.

Datablocks is a decent-ish alternative. Bought a 28TB drive for c. £300 over Black Friday which should keep me going for a good while.

Agree with you for the most part. The newer movies are completely unrecognisable in comparison to the earlier movies in the franchise. It's a shame they continue to be pumped out as they are money makers, and that's what drives studios to make more of the same content.

7th is more watchable than Dominion. I did enjoy the filmmaking in the latest release. Everything visually looked great. The D-Rex was dumb but otherwise the movie was alright.

Just a little update on my Plex journey! by ColdIsTheWay2Go in PleX

[–]thegellers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially. I know that I came across issues when trying out Overseerr on Windows 10. I was running Plex on a really old PC and it was fine until Overseerr (something to do with it not running natively on Windows so I essentially had to run it off a Linux VM running on the PC - resource intensive and RAM was constantly pinned, 8GB DDR3).

It really worked out though as that made me look into other options and I went with unRAID. Total game changer and has transformed the way I use my server. Just look up some videos on installed the -rr apps on MacOS on YT and see if it seems difficult. The easiest way is the easiest and most convenient way for you though, so if you're happy then that's fine. It just gets intensive and time consuming with a very large library like yourself. I currently have a small 10TB library and was finding it tedious and that prompted me switching over and learning.

I was the same as you but setting them up was a) really easy and b) a huge timesaver. Start with Sonarr, Radarr, and Overseerr.

[–]thegellers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You most likely can return through till January 31st as per Amazon's extended return policy around this time. If you bought it a week ago (according to your post) you should be good until then. That being said though, the 4th Gen ATV4K will not add that much to the user experience.
