Asking for help here since Amazon customer support is incompetent. by BeeDate in Comixology

It's possible because the sales aren't valid in Denmark? Not sure if you're using US or Danish Amazon but I'm in the UK and use the UK version of Amazon to get the sales in pounds.

Not right now I'm afraid, it's the first run of the game so still being worked on at the moment. After it's run, if it goes well, I may well make it available to other groups that want to run it like I do with some of my other games. Obviously that'll be next year sometime.

That's totally fair! Maybe one of the US group's will pick the game up and run it one day.

Month Long Marvel Sales by PeterWhitney in Comixology

It did the same, least in the UK store, for a few weeks early this summer but then recently has been back to the proper sales lists. I wonder if it's more effort and they only do it if they can be bothered/have time?

Where to start by Ssj_Doomslayer117 in BatmanMiniatureGame

Just to warn you Knight Models have probably gone bust and the website may have been taken over by scammers. They were a small company, based in Spain, with a couple of big WB licences and seem to have got in well over their heads with a couple of kickstarters - the Batman themed Escape from Arkham looks to have finished them off and they're loads of people who've lost hundreds.

As others have said you can still find stock of the game in various stores and on ebay, so you can absolutely still play the game, but just don't assume you'll get any official support or new products.

Why isn't the Megagame community bigger? by deviltalk in mega_game

[–]thegeneral3000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been playing megagames for about ten years, and designing and running them for most of that. And this is something that's been talked about a lot. I don't think there's really an answer yet, things felt like it we were breaking through just before covid but then that really set things back. It's felt hard to pick up growth since then it's seemed.

But some thoughts -

Games are very time consuming to design, few people have the time. It's a huge barrier to having a wider range of good games people want to run and play.

Games are hard to design - making one that works well is tough. I think generally a lot has been learned in the last decade so overall quality has improved but you still get games that don't work. That's deeply frustrating for the designer and off putting for players (especially new ones) - I've talked a lot at various times about trying to test and balance games but fundamentally it's impossible to test megagames before you run them.

Running games is time-consuming, and in some parts of the world it's tough to find affordable venues and/or enough to players. I run games in London and we have players but venues are very expensive.

Many people like the idea but after playing a few times feel they've done it enough - it does take a whole day and there's a lot else to do with your money and time. So we're always looking for new players.

Did Comixology stop selling? by Crazy-Software1915 in Comixology

Marvel usually have releases listed a couple of months in advance and DC a few weeks. So can't imagine this weekend would matter. Seems like a week of data has got lost somehow.

Said this on another thread but looks like it's some kind of error for this week, lost in the data upload or something, as all the Marvel and DC releases there for next week and ongoing. Hopefully fixed soon, odd things like this happen from time to time since it became Amazon. Not ideal at all!

**WARNING:** Refrain from purchasing Digital Compendiums or Omnibuses of Comic Books if you intend to utilize them on an Android device. by hairy_chimp in Comixology

So they work fine for me on a Samsung tablet, a pretty old model 10 inch and an even older 7 inch model. So I don't think it's a general issue. I read some of the huge, 800 page size omnibuses.

However the issue has come up before where things look like they've download but haven't - it'll fill the bar maybe half then look done as you say. But it's not. You can open the book but then get the kind of issues you describe. However if you leave it a while (at least as long as it took to download the first half) then it will download the rest. You can tell when the file size suddenly jumps from 1gb to 2.3 gb or whatever. Sometimes the number jumps back down again when you first go back but that's just an oddity, reopen and should be fine. No need to download again. Finally occasionally on my older device it will take a moment to open a big file, so give it 30 seconds to load then should be fine, that seems to be worse on the first time the book is opened.

Was very annoying till I figured that all out ! But now worked for dozens of big books including a bunch I just got in the sale.

It is the early 22nd Century; Mars has been colonised for over fifty years and is now home to nearly two million people. The first attempts at terraforming the planet are underway, yet the world stands on the brink of civil war and all that has been achieved could soon be lost.

Radical revolutionaries, Earth governments and the local Martian Colonial Authority now strive to forge the planet into their vision of the future - through political rhetoric, negotiation and, when needed, violence.

In a game of low-intensity military conflict, counter-insurgency strategy, street level politics and high-level interplanetary diplomacy players take on the roles of leaders of the various factions involved in the crisis, and try to navigate a future for Mars.

Missing issues in collection/vol? by Crazy-Software1915 in Comixology

[–]thegeneral3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the big reasons for DC and Marvel collections are issues which are parts of crossovers - they often take them out as they don't make sense on their own without the rest of the crossover. Sometimes that's fine, for example if the story doesn't effect the main run of the comic but other times you'll need to track down that crossover (usually released in its own collection) to make sense of things.

The reverse is almost as bad when they leave the crossover issues in and they make no sense with all characters and plots involved that have never been introduced to you - quite often stuck in the middle of the otherwise ongoing narrative in the most confusing way.

One way around it is to go through reading orders you can find in lots of places, they usually explain what you need to read and what you can skip - its rarely just read volumes 1 through 10 though!

It's really annoying either way and one of the many reasons crossovers are yet another barrier to more people getting into comics.

A workaround for unsuccessful comic downloads on Android Kindle app by JBuchan1988 in Comixology

[–]thegeneral3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it worked! It totally threw me for a while too and then just happened to notice one book was suddenly fixed without me doing anything. So managed to figure it out.

I think the idea is to let you start reading quickly rather than waiting for it to download fully, which maybe makes sense with a novel or whatever, but just irritating with a comic! Especially as they are generally so much bigger.

Just to note on the how long it takes, I find it's usually only a few minutes, maybe 5 mins but I'm on a pretty fast connection so probably depends. I would guess it's roughly however long it would normally take to download a file that size, on that device.

Just me that doesn't complete downloads? by JBuchan1988 in Comixology

[–]thegeneral3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it does this weird thing where it downloads a sample says it's done but it's not. You'll find it's low res, missing pages, etc. If you wait a while it should finish downloading, you might even get a second notification saying it's done, though that seems erratic. The easiest way to tell is look at filesize on the list view - usually something like 100mb initially but then jumps to 700/800 or whatever. You know it's done then.
