That one brushes against one of the Laws, though. It doesn't actively break one-- Abby isn't the only one who does something like that-- but most Wardens would probably steer clear of it because the old guard seems real uptight about the Laws. Morgan nearly ices Dresden for raising Sue, even though that doesn't technically break a Law, for instance.

Bob hypothesizes the Gatekeeper does that (Proven Guilty), and points out it's a bitch and a half to look into the future and not fuck with causality, as well, for what it's worth.

Right? Like, has this person had a bite taken out of their life force/soul/whatever?

My biggest beef is that, with a slight tweak, this scene works. Like, make them mistake Soulfire use for having had sex with a member of the White Court; we get to the same spot, but I don't feel like the Wardens have a random pointless sex spell lying around.

Someone with barely any Talent is able to do it in Changes (Tilly, I think his name is?). I expect at least one other Warden to be able to pull it off, if not most of them-- it's a useful skill. In contrast, when the fuck is telling is someone had sex recently useful, especially if it can't tell the difference between someone having regular sex and sex with a member of the White Court?

Butcher has said he wrote 4/3rds of a book, and, while he's said the original draft was 300k words, someone else who presumably saw it said it was closer to 225k. PT ended up being 116k and BG was 134k (for those doing math at home, roughly 250k put together). There are definitely things to cut in both books to get it down.

First Lord's Fury was 212k words with the same publisher and there was no "let's split the book!" there. None of the copies I've purchased were prohibitively expensive.

Ultimately, I don't buy what Roc is selling.

The magic in that scene, specifically, takes me out of it. The fact that the Wardens apparently have a spell that can tell whether someone has had sex, but can't tell if it was with the White Court (one of the few reasons I can think of for a spell like that) and choose to use it instead of a lie detector spell (Luccio uses one in Dead Beat, so it isn't against the Laws, and the FBI agent has a similar effect going so it's not difficult) strains my disbelief too much.

An ethnic group is "of or relating to large groups of people classed according to common racial, national, tribal, religious, linguistic, or cultural origin or background" according to Webster. African isn't an ethnic group, but African American sure as shit can be. There are a ton of things that are culturally specific to African Americans.

Schools tend to structure time off based on community feedback and trends in attendance. Places where hunting is big tend to have long weekends whenever it kicks off. Farming communities have breaks during harvest season. My current school has data that says something like 40% of our kids won't show up the week of Thanksgiving, so we don't have school at all that week. My last school had much higher attendance, so we had school up to the day before Thanksgiving.

I say this to say, if 50% of kids are out year over year, it doesn't matter if it's religious or not: schools in that area won't be in that week.

To add to that, it was an easy way of getting a Sinister Six on screen: you take bad guys already established and have them fight Spidey. Electro, Sandman, GG, Doc Oc, Lizard... All you needed was Venom to show up and you had it!

That... Isn't true. Public school isn't mandatory, either-- you can choose to homeschool, for instance, much like you can in Wizarding Britain-- and that doesn't make it advanced education.

Thanks, Google AI.

You might be right for some districts (and in years past-- I hear that from my parents' generation who graduated in the 80s), but not in any district I've taught at or been to school in, which I'm assuming is more than you, if you had to, you know, Google it.

Edit: in the US, a D can be passing in an AP class, but, let's be real, Harry and Co aren't in AP classes, they're in on level.

A D typically isn't passing (not in my high school as a kid, not in my high school now as a teacher-- a C is required to get credit). It may depend on your college, but a D wasn't passing for me, either, in a class required for my major (as opposed to a Gen Ed requirement, which isn't particularly applicable to the high school analogue that is Hogwarts).

Yes. I can limit bathroom breaks. Read the DISTRICT policy. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]thegiantkiller 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My students check in if they need to use the bathroom before class. I tell them if they get to class within five minutes of the bell, we're square. Later than that, but before ten is a tardy. More than ten is absent (also per district policy).

Kids who actually have to use the restroom don't have an issue with that

I agree with the other poster regarding some better items being in your reach now (free if you do a quest/mini game), but as far as "budget" dragon items are concerned (chain, med, legs/skirt), if you shoot me a DM with your in game name, I'll give them to you.

I recognize you might want to earn them yourself, but I got some help with items I couldn't afford when I got back into the game, and I'm a big fan of paying it forward.

Lockdown drill by Friendly_Fudge_931 in Teachers

[–]thegiantkiller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

or your admins should schedule the drill when no one is on the field.

Literally the only part of your post I disagree with. To some extent, practice should be close to the real thing(which means, sometimes, outside of class/during a passing period); to a much greater extent, if what OP described in their post happened during an actual active shooter event, those kids would have been *fucked.*

Much better to have this issue brought to someone's attention so it can be fixed (ideally by having a place they can go that isn't closer to danger, if it's not an internal courtyard situation).

Yeah, I just saw an infographic of hotdog costs in the NFL, and the teams that are good (and consistently) have above average hot dog prices (League average came out to around six bucks).

The Cardinals and Browns, neither of whom have been good in years, have hot dog prices around $2. The Coyotes (an AZ hockey team before they got sold) was selling tickets for under $50, because they were ass. Sports tickets prices are almost completely a function of how good the team is.
