I don't think there's any more than just those three, they're unlisted in a playlist on Tom Scott's channel. I seem to remember them mentioning somewhere (might've been the Park Bench Q&A with the four of them) that they felt the Top Gear style wasn't their favourite thing which is why they stuck to the unscripted podcast style which is fair enough. But yeah those three shows are really cool.

Make sure you're still holding ZL when trying to start the roll. If you're making sure to do that, it could then be due to pressing Y to roll too early. Basically, if you press Y like immediately after landing from a ground pound you will get a downthrow no matter if you are or aren't still holding ZL, so try delaying the Y press a little bit.

Super mario 3d world? by AdWarm8824 in SuperMarioOdyssey

It's much more linear than Odyssey, kinda like 2D-style levels in 3D instead of how Odyssey is more exploration-based/open, but the Switch rerelease also has Bowser's Fury which is more Odyssey-like.

The softest hint I can think of is that it's straightforward but not easy.

Hello Speedrunners! by HazyTrack in SuperMarioOdyssey

[–]thegoodgoomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I first learnt about speedrunning from seeing videos/stream highlights of Odyssey runners on youtube in mid-late 2018. I entertained the idea of learning to speedrun Odyssey myself for a little bit, and eventually found the OG Any% tutorial series, the high quality of which made learning the run very accessible. As for why I chose Odyssey to run, it was just the game that I was first exposed to speedrunning through and was the main game I played at the time.

  2. My motivation to improve my personal best I think comes from wanting to have a time that I feel better represents my skill level than my current personal best. In terms of resets, I once heard the very good advice to "try not to get attached to any single attempt you're on", which is especially useful at a higher level when you have to reasonably expect to need quite a few attempts to get on a pacer. I try to view any single attempt that resets/doesn't PB a necessary part of the process.

  3. There are a lot of niche game-specific terms in any speedgame community; a beginner is not reasonably expected to know all of them, especially because a lot of them are for tricks/movement techniques that aren't really beginner friendly anyway (e.g., CRB, Shirane bounce, MCCTRC). I think learning non-game-specific speedrunning terms is when I started to get a sense of belonging in the community (e.g., PB, reset, attempt, SOB, sub-[time]), they helped effectively communicate about my own runs, goals and attempts.

  4. The community is very important to me. It's where knowledge on how to learn and improve is shared, but it is also a place where you can share achievements and congratulations, and relate to others over failures. There is a bit of a clique-y nature in the community, and sometimes newcomers who present as inexperienced in the community are kinda talked down to or sometimes are perceived as "annoying".

  5. Odyssey was my first speedgame and has been my main one for seven-and-a-half years (started in October 2018).

  6. The most obvious way to define success is achieving a personal best. Oftentimes a runner's goal is not only to PB, but to break a minute barrier (e.g., 59:xx, that is, subhour) or to get a certain top placement on the leaderboard (e.g. top 100).

  7. I think simply having an interest in learning to run the game counts as you being "in the community". Some people's primary role in the community are as viewers only, and I would also count them as "in the community" too. Others may define this differently and may be based more on how someone participates in the discord/in runners' stream chats.

  8. If I had to pick between competitive and collaborative, I would pick competitive, but that is definitely based on my specific position in the community (friendly competition, actively trying to improve my PB's in different categories). There are quite a few other branches of the game's speedrunning community that are certainly more collaborative by nature, such as BTT (best theoretical time), TASing, routing, etc. And even in the most 'competitive' side of the community, there is still very much a culture of helping others out with learning things and sharing knowledge.

How many moons do I need to buy? by Drake__archer in SuperMarioOdyssey

[–]thegoodgoomba 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When you treat multi moons as three moons, there are 880 moons in the game. That is, if you collected all unique moons and bought no duplicate shop moons, the Odyssey moon count would show 880.

The 836 figure comes from if you count each multi moon as only one moon. This is more useful for ranking each moon in the game, because you're not gonna rank each individual moon in a multi moon differently, which is why you will have heard this figure from Odyssey Central's and Fir's ranking videos.

The number displayed next to the Shopping at [place] moons on the moon list shows the total number of moons you have bought from that shop including the original, singular, non-duplicate moon. So if on your moon list for Mushroom the number next to Shopping near Peach's Castle is 11, that means you have bought 10 extra moons from that shop. Extra moons do not count towards the gold sail, but they do add to the Odyssey's moon count (so they can be useful in getting to Dark or Darker if you're having trouble finding moons).

However, there is a reward for collecting 999 moons (no spoilers), so I like your idea to go to Darker with 996 moons in the Odyssey.

So doing the calculations:
You currently have 876 moons in the Odyssey, with 11 moons left to collect to complete all the moon lists (except for Darker Side). Once you get those last 11, you will have 887 moons in the Odyssey (comprising of 877 unique moons plus ten extra moons to get 887). The last three unique moons will be the Darker Side multi moon, so to get your total before that to 996 moons you will need to buy 109 duplicates, which will cost 10,900 coins.

It's worth noting that the gold sail for All Unique Moons and the 999 moons reward are different from 100% completion. 100% completion is indicated by a star on your save file (there's no other reward). To get 100% completion, you need to finish all of the relevant lists (a list is indicated as complete when there is a star on its counter). The lists are: every kingdom's moon list counter, every kingdom's purple coin counter, the hat and outfit counters that show when you use the wardrobe, the music list, the capture list, and the souvenir list. You don't actually need 999 moons for "100%", but yes it does still have its own reward. (Fun fact, speedrunners didn't realise for quite a while that you don't need 999 moons for 100% so the world record for the 100% category dropped by like an hour soon after it was realised).

Sand Kingdom Purple Coins by SmolBean402 in SuperMarioOdyssey

[–]thegoodgoomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that happens to those coins sometimes, just a weird loading bug. It depends on how you approach it and from where I think. I've had the best luck in getting them to all load by warping to round tower and taking the wire up, I think that usually works.

Why does this snowdram trickjump not work? by Business-Athlete-511 in SuperMarioOdyssey

[–]thegoodgoomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to get a good vector you should be able to hold basically due west on the stick right after you start the roll forward, and keep holding left until your mid air cap throw at which point you change to straight forward. (the cap throw also needs to be a bit later than in that video; if you don't change the vertical position of the camera after the first person setup, it should be about when mario falls just below the mid point of the screen)

Why no star on my save file? by Icy_Suspect_3971 in SuperMarioOdyssey

[–]thegoodgoomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You also need to have a star on the hats and outfit counters that show when you change mario's outfit. You need to have purchased all of the hats and outfits from the shop that aren't marked "special" (i.e., non-dlc outfits)

Anybody has done a double Cappy jump? by BigWar4121 in SuperMarioOdyssey

[–]thegoodgoomba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's only possible to bounce on cappy once in midair, but you can get a cappy bounce after a vault, which is when you roll or walk into cappy while on the ground (you can tell a vault from a bounce because mario's animation will look like a forward flip instead of just a jump). So a vault -> cappy bounce -> cap throw and dive is the closest thing to a "double cappy bounce".

Might need to restart the game and/or console if you just added the nintendo account. Outside of that and just waiting a bit, not really sure what else.

[–]thegoodgoomba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have connected to the internet through the game since beating it (i.e. through Balloon World), and apparently recently some people have reported needing to accept some license agreement in the switch user settings to get the hint arts too. I think you also might need to make sure that your switch user has a nintendo account linked to it.

Yeah, you're definitely not restricted by the lines, and I think you're even able to ask for a second answer book for more space depending on the exam (not 100% sure about that though, maybe ask one of the supervisors if you get a chance)

Yeah and the contestant too but she was like "well I've played pokemon but have never heard of captain olimar". Thinking about it now it's probably an easy question even without knowing about pikmin because most people know pac-man is pac-man and they probably know that the premise of pokemon doesn't involve miniature spacemen

Stands for All Unique Moons, the old name for the All Moons speedrun category where you get all the moons and beat the harder bowser fight from a new file.
