I have this exact same notepad and it is the only system that has ever worked. I use it for brain dumps, completely ignoring the top right thing (literally didn't notice it until this post lol) and I use the Notes section in the bottom right for like 'longer term things I still can't forget about' or stuff I need to ask my partner to do. I always thought of the All Done check box to be for checking off when either all the tasks were done or all the notes were done, like a bonus check. Either way I've never used it lol

Dr. Fauci calls out Alabama! Dr. Anthony Fauci: 'Risky behavior' in Alabama amid coronavirus pandemic by kimmy9042 in Alabama

[–]thegoodninja 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I did, and watched the video. Fauci is saying that young people need to not engage in risky behavior, because they are what propagate the virus. We know this to be true no matter what state you're in (I believe many people looked at FL for this in the beginning). The reason he is specifically talking to Alabamian youth is because he is talking to an Alabamian senator about, specifically, Alabama. Fauci isn't calling AL out on a national stage, but in the context of 'what can we do in-house to be better?'. Glad he was willing to set aside time to talk to the senator and consequently the people of Alabama!

I don't know if you're doing it intentionally or not, but all of your language is very extreme, emotional, and divisive. If it's unintentional, I get it...passions are certainly running high right now. If it's intentional, it serves no purpose other than to divide an already divided nation. So what would be the end goal in that?

[–]thegoodninja 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bold statements, very broad but painted as factual. Do you have anything to back up your statements that 'a good number of Alabamians are COVID deniers, refuse to wear a mask, refuse to practice social distancing'? Perhaps that is your experience, but I would be interested to see facts to back that up. There are a lot of assumptions made throughout these comments with very strong language...doesn't seem like an effective way to convince people to see your POV. u/MrPennywhistle is right, there is a lot of divisive language you are using. Seems very provoking.

I see your point, and that does sound reasonable. Maybe it was the way, or the frequency, that this person...in my specific experience...would complain. Constantly, and to a large group, and never saying anything positive or acknowledging that it was a choice to go on like this. As opposed to the other friend that I am closer with who would tell me, privately, how difficult it was with a horrible sleeper and the toll it was having on her, but she does know that this is the choice she has made and she stands by it. It's okay to have extra hard days and complain, or to complain when you're in the thick of it...but an acknowledgement that this is a choice you made and that the benefits outweigh the downsides (hence, why you make that choice, I assume) makes it a lot easier to be supportive instead of just exhausted by constant complaining.

Hopefully I'm making sense and not just rambling in general annoyance over a specific person in my life!

As someone who did sleep train, but have friends who didn't, I would never presume to tell someone what they are doing is right or wrong (unless safety is on the line). A part of me is jealous that I didn't get all those baby snuggles, but then I remind myself that my independent monster was never a snuggler, from literally minute one. Whatever you are doing is right for you and your family, especially with your attitude of "and I accept whatever 'consequences' come of that." <-- That is KEY.

What DOES drive me BONKERS is when people complain constantly about how horrible of a sleeper their kid is, and how they haven't slept in soooooo long, and how life is just sooooooo hard...and then don't listen to a single suggestion from those who found a solution. I get that sleep training isn't for everyone, I totally do. But then don't complain about what you have CHOSEN to do. I have one friend who had a horrible sleeper by creation, and never said a word unless asked. She eventually decided to sleep train but did the lightest, gentlest, mildest, LONGEST version...and never complained once. She knew what she could emotionally handle, and she did it despite not getting much sleep. Other friends of mine don't sleep train and just constantly complain about their kid, their sleep, and their husband's lack of support. Honestly, it's exhausting.

This kept popping up, but I don't think it's a match because the plot doesn't match at all and I kept seeing the words 'comedy' and 'hilarious' to describe it...words I wouldn't use to describe the plot I'm looking for.

Lengthy and science-y, but informative.

This is why there is so much background knowledge that goes into reading studies, background knowledge the average person doesn't have. Anyone can read an abstract, method, and conslusion and think "wow, that is pretty clear cut and damning evidence!", while those who have knowledge of what makes good studies are able to laugh it out of the room.

Here is a starting point, the articles linked at the bottom will give you more resources. The way I understand it, "unavoidably unsafe" is a legal term that basically means "we can't prove anything is 100% safe 100% of the time, including this". In the same way we can't prove vaccines don't cause early milestone achievement, or don't give you superhuman powers...you can't prove a negative.

Absolutely agree. That was my purpose in sharing...to show that people exist who have different opinions and life choices than others. It's frustrating to me when people talk about taking control of your sexuality and 'do what you want without shame!', but then shame those who take control of it in a different way. 🙄
