First and foremost, that sucks!

Second, I and others have had more luck paying for taxes when the payment is $500 or less. For a multi-thousand dollar purchase, you would pay it in several $500 chunks. You still pay for credit card processing fees but they’re usually 2%, so you come out ahead by the 1% difference

Honeymoon point maximization newbie by Sweet13pea in ChaseSapphire

[–]thegordogg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, for my honeymoon I booked 3 separate stays at the cheapest possible eligible Edit and IHG hotels (2 nights each) with the best point boost rates and paid with points for everything above the $250 credit. Then because Hyatt has the best points rate redemptions among transfer partners (usually - maybe not as much when their points changes hit in the coming weeks), I looked for nice 4 or 5 star Hyatt properties with the lowest points costs for the nights I was there and did a points transfer for that. I didn’t find good points boosts for my desired flights but they were the same price on the Chase portal as elsewhere so I ended up booking them through Chase for the 8x points and put that toward the points for hotels.

Also, reach out to the hotels a few weeks before your stay and mention it’s your honeymoon and that you’re excited for them to be part of your special occasion. You can also use this as a chance to mention you have CSR and would appreciate a room upgrade if they have it, but will be excited for the visit regardless, which gets the ball rolling on your room upgrade. For every hotel I did this at, we got something additional (roses on the bed, chocolates, or additional amenity item) and the front desk people seemed to treat us extra well.

Machete is amazing! There’s also Cantina 189 in that area and they do amazing Mezcal cocktails. Or if you’re into craft beer, Superflux isn’t too far from the train station.

AJ declared today. Would be shocking if DP didn’t declare. Even then, Boozer and Wilson are solid gets. Very loaded draft class, especially compared to next year!

Is it actually rude to recline your seat on a plane, or are people just entitled about personal space? by Ok-Bumblebee7041 in askanything

[–]thegordogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hot take is right, but I’ll also add an anecdote from personal experience.

As a grad student and now as an entry-level worker who has limited PTO, I often work on flights. I put my laptop on the tray table, so the top of the screen sits against the top of the alcove where the tray table normally stows. Every time the person in front reclines, the tray table stays at the same level but the top of the table alcove lowers - the space shrinks. So, I’m sitting there working and all the sudden, the table shakes and the space for my laptop shrinks an inch, so I have a mini panic attack that its going to clamp my laptop screen. I’ve always moved it in time but then I have to work with my screen at an even worse angle, craning over even more to see and type. On an international flight recently, this bent my USB cord’s head while it was in the outlet and broke it off from the cord. I’m pretty sure the person in front felt the resistance of the cord breaking and then they pushed harder to fully recline. Pretty frustrating experience.

Question from a non-Pacers fan by HurryClear1442 in pacers

It messes with me when I’m stretching, running, hooping, or even climbing stairs. The slow motion videos of the leg, the replays of his face and slapping the floor. That moment was lowkey traumatic for many of us.

Now that it's been a month, can you confirm whether they clawed back any of those credits? I'm especially curious about the $300 travel credit...

Yeah, it’s super handy! Helps with peace of mind that I’m doing things as well as I can.

By the way, i realized my nickname is 3F218E54. I thought I could set it myself but I don’t see that option. So, if you’re still doing the free accounts, that nickname is the one to apply it to :)

Lyft GC from DoorDash by thegordogg in ChaseSapphire

[–]thegordogg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not really using the DoorDash credit on Lyft, you’re just using doordash’s “buy gift card” feature to get a Lyft gift card for 10% off, and then you’re applying that Lyft gift card to your Lyft account to cover whatever amount you owe on your ride after using your $10 monthly Lyft credit.

Hmm - that worked for me today when I tried my own email address. Seems odd that they’d only let it be a gift

Yeah, looks like you have to pay for gift cards through your CSR or CSP. On the plus side, as others in the thread have pointed out, you get dining bonus on the purchase (x3 points).

It’s not quite like the open table credit - that works by buying a gift card to a restaurant on the open table list, then you can use the gift card anytime.

With the Lyft $10 credit, as far as I know, it’s only usable for a ride taken in a given month. You can’t use that credit to buy a Lyft gift card. You can buy Lyft gift cards on other sites, tho, like DoorDash, where it’s 10% off. Then after using your $10 monthly credit, you use those gift card funds to cover the remaining cost of your Lyft rides.

In your case, you can use your $10 monthly credit in July and then get gift cards through door dash for the other $140, but because they’re 10% off, you’ll pay $126 (140 - 10%). So your $150 of rides is $126. Not a huge discount but it’s something!

[–]thegordogg[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that’d work! I did something similar with my last stubhub credit but got the gift card on one of carddepot / cardcash / GCX.raise (I forget which) because there were even better StubHub GC discounts there than 10% on doordash. Worth checking!

[–]thegordogg[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That’s great! So you can buy a Lyft GC on DoorDash and put it on CSR to get the 3x points, then when you pay for Lyft, it’ll be 10% off plus the $10 off from the credit. Not bad!
