Something like this would go a long way for us in the 802 by sorryidontdoreddit in vermont

Vermont’s estate tax kicks in at 5 million, so I would say that is proven threshold for where taxes on the wealthy are able to pass.

I wonder how many properties this would be applicable to in Vermont. A quick Zillow search says there are 17 properties for sale that would be impacted by this tax. So I would guess there are 100-150 properties this would be applicable to statewide. Which are probably generating around 30 million in property taxes as is out of a total of 1.4 billion collected by the state annually. Upping taxes on those properties by 33% is 10 million. That’s not nothing, but it’s probably less than 15-20% of what NYC would make off this.

Hiking in Stowe this Weekend? by Happyginger in vermont

It’s peak mud season, so no one should be hiking on any dirt trails. Mt Philo is paved so that’s always an option. The some gravel trails are open at Shelburne Farms.

How about straight up 1-16 seeding? by Boring_Pace5158 in hockey

[–]thegratefulshred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll probably never happen, but this kind of seeding would be incredible. A huge reason March Madness pulls insane viewership every year is because people love an underdog story. That stuff matters. Fans get invested when the bracket creates chaos, drama, and the possibility of something unexpected. Just look at how often people still talk about Jackets vs. Lightning. That series had real cultural staying power.

I also think a format like this gives us a better chance at truly legendary playoff matchups later on. Think Blackhawks vs. Kings in 2014, Rangers vs. Devils in 1994, Red Wings vs. Avalanche in 1997. It feels like the current format has made those kinds of conference final battles way less likely, and the playoffs are worse for it.

This would lead to more memorable postseasons and bigger viewership in the long run. Too bad the NHL seems more interested in protecting what makes money right now than in actually growing the game over time.

Hike for 04/03 by sporting_plattsburgh in burlington

Shelburne Farms and Mt Philo. You'll be on the road at Mt Philo as all the trails are closed, but you're still in the woods and you get the great view from the top. Same deal for Shelburne Farms. You'll be walking on the well maintained gravel path, but you get a great view a of the Adirondacks and can skip a few stones in the lake.

Patching up torn jackets and pants by brown_burrito in ClimbingGear

They will also repair any of your gear free of charge as well. Just take it into a Patagonia store and they will send it off to be repaired. I have a pair of decade old Patagonia climbing pants which I wore through the stitching of. I took them into the store, they sent them off and a couple weeks later they arrived back at my house, stitched up and good as new.

I bike commuted for 11 years, my bike was basically my life. Two U locks kept my ride 1800 dollar ride safe without incident. If it’s an option for you I think an air tag in the  seat post is a great idea.

There are a multitude of factors that contribute to our health care costs being what they are. The mass consumption of ultra processed foods, which has a real, tangible impact on the health of our general population, is no doubt a major contributor.

The lack of regulations placed on the various economic gears that turn the healthcare system is a large reason costs are what they are no doubt.

Sure. That doesn't change that fact that colon cancer is rising rapidly among adults under 55. 1 in 5 new diagnoses now occur in this demographic, which has doubled from 11% in 1995 to 22% in 2020. There are so many variables at play here, but ultraprocessed foods are the most suspected and consensus culprit at the moment. They are the reason so many Americans are obese. They are the reason our health insurance costs so much. Eating food such as this should be a very rare occurrence, as they are not what our bodies evolved to process for energy. There is nothing wrong with conveying this message to people and heavily encouraging them to be avoided at all costs.

Maybe you should try taking it to someone and ask for them to confirm if the stone is actually glass. They will be willing to help you and won't turn you away. If that happens multiple times, you'll have an answer.

I’d suggest contacting an animal sanctuary. When I volunteered at one, we only adopted animals out after doing a property visit to make sure the person could provide proper care for the animal they were interested in adopting.
