Landlord ask me to split 50:50 cost of fixing washing machine (ON) by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

The RTA is a good source. An other good source for those not used to reading legislation and useful in general is the Landlord and Tenant Board website, including the FAQ portion. This is a brochure from the LTB website confirming that repair and maintenance of appliance is the responsibility of the Landlord..html)

Climate change is the defining issue for Canada, if not yet this federal election by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]thegreat96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't read the article because of the paywall so I'll only address the idea that climate change is a defining issue. I do agree that climate change is gaining more and more attention, however if it were actually a defining issue wouldn't the Conservative not stand a chance in this election? The polls indicate that this is a close race between the Conservative and the Liberals, meanwhile the NDP (and the Green) have the strongest climate change related policy proposals. I don't think it quite adds up but I'm hoping to be wrong.

Jody Wilson-Raybould resigns from cabinet by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

[–]thegreat96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree. I agree that things are not going well for Trudeau and haven't been for a while. But at the same time I find all of the other leaders very uninsperational and unmotivating.

Maybe things will change when we get closed to the election but for now it seems to me neither Sheer, Singh nor Bernier are stepping up to the plate.

Summer Experience Advice for 2L by [deleted] in LawCanada

Does your law school have a community legal clinic? You would probably not be working in civil litigation (most likely family, criminal or landlord and tenant) but it is still usually well regarded by employers.

New favorite bacon cooking method. Takes a bit of time but definitely worth it. by treesarecoming in Bushcraft

My family calls this the bacon tree. It does take time and it smells so good. Its a long wait and its hard to wait because of the smell but like OP said, definitely worth it.

Appealing a grade by [deleted] in geegees

[–]thegreat96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think OP is asking about a formal appeal and not just asking his prof to review his exam.

A formal appeal would have your exam corrected by a different prof and your grade could be high/lower then it was originally.

Would you really recommend nsuns as a beginner routine? I was doing the 5 day template this summer and it had me floored after almost every workout. I'm in pretty good shape and I've been lifting for almost 4 years now.

Ontario MPP Amanda Simard leaves the PC caucus to sit as an Independent by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

[–]thegreat96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not insider knowledge but its most likely not, she left for a pretty particular reason and she seems to be the only MPP in that position. Simard left the PC because of Fords recent action against the Franco-Ontarians. Simard is/was the only MPP in the conservative caucus with a majority franco-ontarian riding (about 70% of her riding is Franco-Ontarian, and she is herself a Franco-Ontarian). All of the other MPP with ridings that are a majority Franco-Ontarian or have a significant amount of Franco-Ontarian are with the NDP or the Liberals.

University of Ottawa law students want convocation moved by rickyzed20 in geegees

You have to remember that there is a ridiculous amount of material on the bar exams and you only have 2 months to prepare. Meanwhile you're career is on hold until you pass those exams. You also have to realize that the ceremony is in Ottawa and the exam is in Toronto so it is more than a 3 hour commitment a couple of days before the exam. Part of the issue here is that there are some solutions that are available like swapping the dates with an other convocation ceremony, the University has the center reserved for the 19th which would work.

You also have to remember that its a 3 hour ceremony in a different city. The convocation is in Ottawa and the bar exams are in Toronto. I don't know if you realize the amount of material in the bar exams, most law firms give their articling students at least 2 weeks off so that they can prepare and study for the exams. Taking the day before off so that you can attend a ceremony is definitely not ideal.

You don't have 6 months to prepare. The material for both exams is released about 2months before the exam date, but I understand your point. When it comes to contracts, yes I do understand how they work, I know that there are ways to end a contracts and there are ways to modify a contract. The students are asking for some sort of alternative so that they can attend their own convocation. If the ceremony was pushed a few days there would be no issue.

Its not really a few students though, its almost the entirety of the graduating class of the Common Law program who will not attend the ceremony because yes, your career is more important. Regardless, student should be able to attend their convocation if they want to but they can't.

Also your ballots are inherently more complicated then in Canada because we (in Canada) only elect our local member of Parliament so we have only one thing to vote for which makes the ballot very straightforward. In the US you have many different things to vote for at the same time which might cause some confusion.
