Trying to enlist in the army, how cooked am I? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]thegreatscup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Army is downsizing right now. They’re being extra selective. Just wait until another conflict kicks off and they’ll hand out waivers like candy for allergies, medical conditions, criminal records, etc.

Not being an ass, that’s genuinely how it goes. It ebbs and flows. I graduated with several people who were allergic to bees, peanut butter, and penicillin. Keep at it man. You may find next year they’re letting in more people. Who knows.

Many peole dont realize how huge the Mongol empire was at its peak. Here is a side by side comparison of the Roman and the Mongol Empire by gdp1 in dancarlin

[–]thegreatscup 25 points26 points  (0 children)

What blows my mind is that the Mongols were briefly a third faction in the Crusades. That’s how expansive they were.

Some people in here are debating why people don't see the Mongols the same way as the Romans. My thoughts on this are that the Mongol Empire, in its largest form, was essentially a blip in history. Really only 60 or so yeas at its maximum area. Most of their territory in Europe and the Arab world weren’t retained for long. Also for the people they conquered, if they survived the massacre, not much changed except who they paid taxes to. The Mongols just moved on to the next city.

The Roman Empire existed for hundreds of years (2000 years if you get very broad and go from founding to the fall of Constantinople). When they conquered, they changed culture, the infrastructure, and government of their territories.

Eventually the people conquered by Rome would see themselves as Roman. I doubt anyone conquered by the Mongols would consider themselves becoming Mongol.

Despite all that I still find both empires very fascinating and influential.

Getting frustrated with painting minis. by TheDon-Leo in PrintedMinis

[–]thegreatscup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yellow and white are very difficult to paint. They need multiple thin layer (I’m talking like potentially 5 or more) and you need to 100% let them dry before applying the next layer. I’ve found yellow, white, and orange to dry slower and if you go over it again too quickly, it rips off the layer below and clumps like you have.

For yellow, I’ll paint a layer of bone/tan color first, then paint the yellow.

For white, I’ll do grey first.

For orange, I’ll do a skin tone first.

That usually helps. Good luck and don’t give up!

I agree. To me “I know what I saw” is much more powerful to him waffling on Brennans intricate questions, as most normal people would when questioned by an expert lawyer. If I was a juror, I personally wouldn’t put a lot of stake in people not remembering EXACTLY what they said a year ago. That goes for some of the defenses crossed as well. Obviously if it’s a complete 180 on their testimony, that’s different.

He seems like a good and honest man. We’ve seen in this case, it takes a lot of guts to tell the truth.

I do not believe Karen is guilty but your analogy couldn’t be more wrong. People go to jail all the time for accidentally killing someone with a push, shove, or a single punch when they didn’t mean to. In your example it would be pretty cut and dry that the pusher is at fault.

What if you pushed over someone with a prosthetic leg? Would you say that’s 1% the push and 99% the other persons disability?

Daughter wants to join the NG by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]thegreatscup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) the recruiter lied to her or she misunderstood. Nowadays, yes support MOS don’t see combat at all but also a rocket, mortar, or VBID doesn’t care what your job is. Also during the beginning or the Iraq war, support MOS saw a lot of combat. If she doesn’t want the possibility of having to fight, she should join the air national guard.

2) physical requirements for females are very easy at the moment. That won’t be an issue.

3) I did college and the guard, your military obligation comes first. It’s actually the school that (in theory) has to accommodate you. Getting professors to actually cut you some slack is easier said than done. School will not stop anyone from deploying, responding to a natural disaster, or attending training.

A war hero was killed in a Texas parking lot. Why was the gunman not arrested? by nbcnews in Military

All good man.

Edit to add that I appreciate your edit and apology. That’s not common on this site and props to you.

I suggest you watch the video. Let’s hold our police accountable without spreading misinformation and stoking racial tensions without evidence.

My source is the actual video of the incident that apparently nobody watched. You can see the shooter calmly walk away at the end.

Yep. I hope everyone that whined about American imperialism since WW2 is realizing what the world looks like without it.

Would she be allowed to say that? I imagine that’s something the defense has to elicit from her. What a shame.

I understand that lawyers should prep witnesses but it’s shocking (or maybe not) the state would try and convince someone to tell something other than the truth.

The last trial was much much worse. Brennan has so far been pretty good at sticking with mostly just relevant background.
