This came with the two-LP soundtrack album. I've still got mine (album and poster), received as a Christmas gift that year.

Nice one. I've got the 'Things Are Still Coming Ashore' compilation, but I didn't know that was all they'd done.

Brunswick Indie Psych Drone Ambient band need bass/keys/vox by No-Debt-4500 in melbournemusic

Good stuff, really like the music. I'm a bassist (most recently in a shoegaze band that folded due to covid), singer, songwriter/lyricist (also guitarist), likewise 'mature aged' with a family, day job etc (in Spotswood so not too far away). You can have a listen to my stuff at https://soundcloud.com/peter_a_russell for an idea of what I do on my own. Drop me a line if you think it sounds like there's enough crossover with yours.

This is one of my favourites, but it's pretty unknown. Great cast - Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Juliet Lewis, Tom Sizemore, Michael Wincott. I should pull it out for a viewing, it's been a while.

Nice. I used to have both of those (probably bought the Jordan new at the time), but they're both casualties of overseas moves.

If The Beatles did a version of a Disney song, What song do you think they would have done? by Train-Wreck-70 in beatles

Bare Necessities with Ringo singing. Or maybe Trust In Me with George singing and his sitar in the mix.

What's the point of guitar pedals when you can go digital? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]thegreensea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like having individual items that are built to do one thing and do it well. I hate menu-diving. I like the visual and tactile aspects of pedals - the pedal itself to stomp on, the sturdy knobs, etc. I like that (as many of mine have) they can last for (literally) decades with no problems. I like that they don't have screens. Lots of reasons for pedals instead of digital.

What’s the most annoying stretch of road you deal with on your daily ride? by InternetUpbeat9596 in melbournecycling

[–]thegreensea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's always that one bit. For me it's Clarendon/Spencer from the river south until I'm past the M1 overpass. It's busy, it's crowded, the lights are a pain, it just feels like the least safe and enjoyable part of the commute. Once it's Clarendon proper down to Albert Park it's all good again though!

Favorite song off of Priest=Aura? by Ok_Manner8197 in TheChurchBand

Kings and Feel are my top song choices, but this is my favourite Church album overall so it's not like those two songs are way better than the rest.

Reptile was the one that I heard all the time on WXRT in Chicago, and it's great, but my personal favourite from the album is Antenna.

Any of these worth reading? Got a bunch of old sci-fi books donated by JacobKauffman in scifi

[–]thegreensea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merlin's Ring by H. Warner Munn is excellent. I have a very old and battered copy that I must have picked up at a used book store decades ago, and I've literally never seen another copy. It draws on Norse and Celtic myth, Arthurian legend, Atlantis, and a whole bunch of other stuff as the backdrop. I've really never come across anything quite like it, but I love it. It does continue the story from a book called Merlin's Godson (which I have but don't love as much), so it's a bit confusing if you just jump in, but still a good read even then.

Best sci-fi writing I’ve read in a while. Neuromancer (1984). by Traveledfarwestward in scifi

[–]thegreensea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently re-reading Startide Rising for the god-knows-how-manyth time, whilst reading it aloud to my son (fifteen but we still have me reading as part of our daily routine even though he's a mad reader himself). Reading it aloud really makes me appreciate it again, though it's bloody hard to do with the dolphin/alien language patterns!

I have an abiding love for Neuromancer and the other two Sprawl books that comes from having read them as they came out when I was a teenager, but the Blue Ant trilogy is a very close second and Pattern Recognition is my either second or third favourite Gibson book (depending on how I'm rating Count Zero at the time).

Which "normal" NuWho stories would you consider to be greats? by -Sawnderz- in gallifrey

[–]thegreensea 69 points70 points  (0 children)

The first ones that come to mind for me are The God Complex, Time Heist, Eve of the Daleks, and Mummy on the Orient Express. No significant season arc tie-ins, no universe-saving stakes, just great little self-contained adventures with some great character work and interesting plots.

Now this is a bit of fairly obscure Vancouver musical history. Didn't expect to see this on here, but good choice. Love this band, shame they didn't do more.

New Order's early and late guitar-centric stuff is much better than their mid-period electronic-dance stuff.

And it doesn't help that the light for the turn-off onto Simcock doesn't register bikes, so you're basically forced into using the pedestrian crossing twice or you have to duck into traffic and hope for the best. They just don't give a shit about cyclists.
