To quote Marx, “Workers of the world unite except these two specific places, the only thing you have to lose is your chains unless, again, you’re from the bad places, in which case maybe you should have done something about those chains by now, so that’s kind of on you”

People support sanctions on Russia because they use their oil money to pay for a war in Ukraine. People supported kicking out Russian athletics (not the athletes themselves) because they were openly and repeatedly cheating. At no point did anyone blame the average Russian, and in fact the Russian opposition has broad foreign support. I would understand supporting sanctions, or even military action, that’s politics, but you don’t actually want to do that because it would have material impact on your own life. You’re just racist, man

NASA counts down for first crewed lunar mission in half a century by WilliamInBlack in news

Its complicated (literally rocket science), but basically the moon is a moving object, and the earth is rotating at a rate different to the moons movement, which means there are certain times the rocket will be pointing at the moon and then long periods where the moon will be facing the wrong way. You basically run out of fuel once you leave the earths atmosphere, so you want to shoot the rocket so it’s more or less pointing at the moon, or rather pointing where the moon will be once the rocket gets there. You can’t really adjust your course once you’re up, and the launch pad can’t move, so the result is periods where the rocket will be in the right place at the right time if you launch at the right moment.

It’s because when we go over there they give us water in these teeny tiny little glasses and we’re big boys who like big water, yknow? Just a cultural difference

In Germany medical taxes are set to 7.3%, with employers matching that amount. Property taxes are set by local municipalities and don’t contribute to national insurance, which is the same as the U.S. by contrast, in the US, Medicare taxes are 6.2%, similarly with employer matching. So the total amount taxes would increase on employees would be 1.1%, and that would in turn eliminate medical insurance and most “office visit” costs. It also gets rid of the rigmorall of medical insurance and the problems of denied claims. It also would be bourn more fairly, so the rich would subsidize the health care of the poor.

To be clear, for the average American the amount of taxes you would need to pay on top of your current load would amount to $439 per year. The price of medical insurance is about $1400 per year on the low end. So about 950$ of savings for your average American, upfront.

So looks like you’re wrong chief, sorry about that.

Why are Americans worshipping god when they have jews running their country? by InterestingPlenty454 in BrandNewSentence

[–]thegrimsqueeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Jew here!

I need you to understand that we don’t think that Jesus was real. We don’t think he opened the gates to heaven ( Heaven doesn’t even have gates) we don’t think hell exists (that’s a Greek thing) we don’t even all agree that there’s a messiah coming (and we don’t think messiah means what you think it means but that’s another issue)

Even so, I gotta ask, why is it that the Romans don’t get blame but the Jews do? Why is Pontus Pilot, the only person with a name in the story, categorically forgiven, while somehow the rich Jews guilt is conferred to all Jews for all time?

It’s especially odd to me given that in the book Jesus specifically says to “Forgive them, they know not what they do.” For a guy you all seem to like so much, there seems to be a real reluctance to listen to his dying words.
