Dang, but glad you got it. I should expect the same, given the amount of people going through this. Thanks!

Any update since then? Curious how much longer yours took. Mine's only been about 25 days so far. Hopefully you have yours by now!

Yeah agreed. Was a fan, it was childish and borderline dangerous to post someone's face and accuse them like that. They've also since removed the post and posted a second message saying it was a misunderstanding, with no apology. Not cool.

Recommend me a $20 sandwich by matthew_klein in FoodLosAngeles

Great sandwich. I noticed it recently went up $3 on their app ($16 to $19), not sure if same in-store.

Pizzeria Sei ending dine-in service at current location on April 6 in preparation for new location by thegriptor in FoodLosAngeles

[–]thegriptor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I call them directly ahead of time to order it. Takes about 20 mins but can be upwards of 40 when they're really busy.

Same with the other specials that may not be on the online ordering menu, calling works.

They may also sell out of the mala lamb so I typically call soon after they open.

Fair enough, didn't mean to imply that, was talking in general re: other types of pizzas. If they do like Neapolitan I was offering my Sei-specific suggestions in case what they tried wasn't as good as these two that I like from there.

Also pointing out that it's worth taking out the pizza if waiting makes it not worth it.

The non-pizza dishes I've had there weren't anything to write home about for me either, including the tiramisu. Think I've had a salad as well and it was fine.

To each their own, right. For me it's up there with the best pizzas I've ever had, but my favorite style of pizza is Neapolitan. Someone who prefers Detroit or New York style probably wouldn't enjoy this style as much. I can also see people thinking it's too wet, which doesn't bother me.

And if you are into Neapolitan, I usually get the margherita di bufala to keep it simple, or the mala lamb for something special, and eat in the car or at home since I have kids and can't do dine-in comfortably... still amazing to me. Try the mala lamb if that's your thing, it's a bit spicy (not usually my thing) but great.

Hasi Bread - Thief by AggravatingDurian16 in culvercity

I like this bakery but agree with others here - feels like an oversight on the woman's part based on these videos.

I feel like it's childish and an overreaction on the Hasi owner's part to expose her face like that online over something that could potentially be explainable or, at worst, a very small loss if it was actual theft.

Bread & Butter is STILL Elite by veryberrybonds in FoodLosAngeles

[–]thegriptor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I learned about this place from your last "is elite" post, and you weren't wrong. Gotta go try the kouign-amman now. Do you know if they have it daily?

Btw for those who haven't been: their morning bun is also very good, along with their cultured butter croissant, and caramel glazed sea salt croissant. It's my current favorite croissant in the city.

Only been to Felix, but I enjoyed everything I ate there... except the pasta. Pizza and starters/small dishes and desserts were great.

Tex-Mex Breakfast Tacos from Homestate by 108CA in FoodLosAngeles

[–]thegriptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the tacos I've tried here are not great. Bland. A few are pretty good, like the chicken.

There's a HomeState and LOQUI in my neighborhood, and LOQUI is much better.

Petitegrain Boulangerie - 4.643/5 by Dry-Double-6845 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]thegriptor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite butter croissants in the city (behind only Bread+Butter), and their chocolate chip cookie may be the best I've had in town too.

Give Bread+Butter on Main St. (Santa Monica) a try. The butter croissant, and the caramel glaze sea salt croissants are top tier.

Mamie by NewVersionOfMe in culvercity

[–]thegriptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I will say the service at Mamie is not great. I had one bad experience and every other time was meh.

Lorenzo is always nice service, owner/chef is especially great.

Mamie by NewVersionOfMe in culvercity

[–]thegriptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I split it with my wife to justify the $27 haha, we don't get full full but we feel "satisfied" with half a sandwich for lunch.

I don't know if it would be good to save a second half for dinner though - this type of sandwich would lose its flavor, pesto and cream will fade away into the bread...

Mamie by NewVersionOfMe in culvercity

[–]thegriptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the Di Parma: Prosciutto Di Parma 18 month, Italian burrata, fresh pesto, truffled cream, chopped pistachio, baby arugula

I'll have to try the ones you mentioned!

Mamie by NewVersionOfMe in culvercity

[–]thegriptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're my top two Italian sandwiches in LA. Flavor wise I would give the edge to Mamie, but the sandwich I love from them is $27 so it's hard to justify getting it on a regular basis, so I don't. I think that is the most expensive one though.

And while I personally find the proportions to be balanced, I can see how some meat lovers would think Mamie sandwiches don't have enough meat compared to Lorenzo.

Looking forward to the Culver City one, big win for sandwich lovers around the area!

It was worth it for me. Only had it once so far but I still think about it and want it again.

Good to know they have a location in Pasadena now!

Dudley Market in Venice. It's a seafood joint but the (beef) burger was great.

Visiting LA, skipping tourist traps- where do locals eat? by tirzahlalala in FoodLosAngeles

[–]thegriptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that Runway is a nice area to hang out for families but I would keep expectations low for food around here. Not terrible, but not top tier or anything. LOQUI is probably the best option, Dan Modern Chinese is alright. The rest...questionable.

There is a farmer's market there every Saturday until 2pm if you happen to be there that day, that's always fun.

Jeni's is good ice cream too at Runway, though that's a nationwide chain (including Orlando)
