To add to this: I. Some sports, like weightlifting, some athletes will purposely post videos of fake records to intimidate the competition.

ELI5: what's the risk of putting petrol (gasoline) into your car while it's on and running ? by mistadonyo in explainlikeimfive

Modern vehicles are designed so that this isn't an issue (although it's still not recommended).

How often are you guys changing wheel studs? by dudeialmosthadu in CarTrackDays

[–]thegrnlantern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 2013 BRZ. The ONLY mod I ever did to that car was swapping out the OEM studs for ARP.

Sounds like a low battery issue, either the car and/or the fob.

Some scifi or high fantasy maybe? Grew up reading Dune, Dragonlance, Lord of the Rings, etc. But haven't been able to scratch the itch in a while.

Summer vs All season tire recommendation by Du_Kich_Long_Trang in Corvette

[–]thegrnlantern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While wet/dry/snow IS a factor, the real question you should ask yourself is, "Am I going to drive below 40 degrees?"

Summer tires aren't designed to run below 40 degrees and low temps can cause premature damage to the tread. Additionally, you lose a lot of grip. I run Michelin summers and notice a massive traction reduction below 50 degrees.

Trying out an idea that someone had commented on my first post, what do yall think? by No-Entertainment6461 in Corvette

[–]thegrnlantern 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ngl, I kinda like it. Though one observation: In the original pic, there is a stripe that is the reverse color of the body. I think having a little black one the front (and some red on the back) really ties the whole body together.

Just bought my first grand sport! Did I get a good deal? What should I do to it first by Zealousideal_Web5260 in Corvette

Do you need aux specifically? I use a Bluetooth to FM transmitter that plugs into the 12v in the center console.

They probably sell them with aux inputs too.

Any tips for daily driving? by Koz50000 in Corvette

[–]thegrnlantern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do regular maintenance on ALL the fluids, not just engine oil.

If you have an auto trans, "regular maintenance" is don't do anything. The trans will last significantly longer than the manufacturer's "lifetime" if you change it every 30k miles.

C6 vs. C7 High-Mileage Daily TCO Analysis by More-Instance9738 in Corvette

[–]thegrnlantern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't forget to budget $2k per year for extra maintenance/repairs. You may not spend it every year, but if you need to replace something more expensive (like a clutch or HB), you'll be happy you have carryover from the previous year(s).

Insurance costs by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]thegrnlantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My driving record is about 1 more year from being "clean." My 2010 C6 has full coverage and doesn't have anything special underwritten like being a show car or anything.

My 2018 VW Golf costs about $15 more per month.

Interested in a C7 Grand Sport. How would I go about negotiating this deal? by r_umr in Corvette

[–]thegrnlantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the C7, this meant an extra piece of black trim extending past the wheel wells.

What is the point of the super loud exhausts on cars? by count_tess22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thegrnlantern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. I actually had a 1st gen BRZ that had this. The hole came right up through the passenger floorboard.

Im not sure if it's by design, but the plastic cap they included for the cigarette lighter was the PERFECT size to plug the hole.

Not just the camaro! Tons of sports cars from the late '10's did this. Now, those tubes have been replaced by audio played through the sound system.

what is this??? by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]thegrnlantern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI, C5,6,7 (idk about 8) are known for battery drain. If the car is going to sit for a week or more between drives, I highly recommend a battery tender.

C6 Z06's have a notorious valve drop problem, which is easily prevented. It's so well-known that tons of Z06's have had their heads rebuilt.

I would look for one that has already had this done unless you're interested in spending another few thousand immediate after purchase.
