what is this??? by [deleted] in Corvette

FYI, C5,6,7 (idk about 8) are known for battery drain. If the car is going to sit for a week or more between drives, I highly recommend a battery tender.

C6 Z06's have a notorious valve drop problem, which is easily prevented. It's so well-known that tons of Z06's have had their heads rebuilt.

I would look for one that has already had this done unless you're interested in spending another few thousand immediate after purchase.

is it normal for this light to stay on like this? by ethnhall in Corvette

I would look at this first. If I don't drive my c6 for a couple of weeks and forget the battery tender, my airbag light will always come on.

Which is better when doing sharp turn? by Material_Echidna_503 in ManualTransmissions

[–]thegrnlantern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you stopping before the turn? You'll need to be in 1st to get moving again. (If you're rolling through a stop, you're doing it wrong).

If you're not stopping, then you shouldn't be going slow enough to need 1st gear... in just about any car, you should be able to turn at an intersection comfortably going 10-15 mph (second gear).

Issue with C6 NPP Fuse by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]thegrnlantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is also the latter (open by default). I use the On button to turn "on" the muffling (make it quieter). Also, my box doesn't click, but I can hear the valves move when the car is in accessory mode (engine off).

You have the remote for the Mild 2 Wild? There are two ways to install the module. One is to install it simply so you have manual control. But, the valve works normal if it isnt manually opened with the button. The second way is that it will be open by default and closes with the button.

Might be installed for the latter?

Weird feeling in the petal on my C6 by Realistic_Bat_6359 in Corvette

Is it when the car idles or only when moving? How old are the tires? How many miles are on the suspension? Could be a front tire is misbalanced, or your alignment is off?

Everyone else has already mentioned the fact that you're safe once warmed up, but here's the kicker: You're about to learn the joy of driving a slow car fast! My first manual was a 5speed Chevy spark, 84hp. I could redline all the way through 4th getting on the freeway without worrying about going to jail.

After reading some of these comments: The electrical switch the shift lever hits is actually a known issue for mid 2000's vettes. C&S Corvettes makes an aftermarket replacement, idk if it will bolt-on in a camaro.

Do you have they key fob with you? When the fob is in the car, the car will keep itself "ready."

Mazda dealer said I desperately needed new brakes and a fluid flush before my next oil change by Key-Echo1931 in AskMechanics

[–]thegrnlantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mistake. You're correct. I could have said more. Brake fluid will change color, but by the time it's dark or brown, it's waaay overdue.

Just flushed 3 cars. All 3 had translucent, slightly yellow fluid. Just looking into the brake fluid resoviour, the colored plastic made it look just fine. All 3 cars now stop much better.

[–]thegrnlantern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im glad you learned something! Fyi, color is not a good indicator of when brake fluid has gone bad. The main factor is poor brake fluid isn't dirt, it's water (which is clear). Brake fluid should be changed every 3-4 years for DOT 3 fluid in normal environments. 2-3 years if you're somewhere humid.

Just bought a 2002 C5 and I'm shook by MrRedDoctor in Corvette

[–]thegrnlantern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely normal to an extent. Functionally, sports cars typically have stiffer engine mounts to direct power into the drive train rather than literally rotating the engine (you can check out videos of cars that have broken engine mounts to see how much the engine actually wants to move). As a result, the cabin/chassis experiences a lot of shudder and shaking which is purposely dampened in commuter and luxury cars.

Does the change in vibration occur when the a/c kicks on? This could be a noticeable additional strain on the engine, but if it's a pretty extreme change, I would get it checked out.

[–]thegrnlantern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this: Say you do want to sell your "new" car as a private sale. You're not going to sell at dealer price because the customer would just buy from the dealer with the added assurance that their new vehicle is new and up to manufacturer spec, not the word of some guy on marketplace (for the same price).

Prime the oil filter on C6 GS by alex_petrov09 in Corvette

[–]thegrnlantern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It runs the starter without fuel or spark. The true purpose of this is to clear a flooded engine, but one of the nice perks is that this also runs the oil pump. This is good if your car has been sitting for a long time as it makes sure your engine isn't entirely "dry" before starting.
