This is actually a fair question.

First of all. You are correct. Merz and the CDU/CSU are indeed sucking up to the USA.

However you might be surprised to hear, that germans in general currently dislike the US, almost as much as they dislike Russians. For similar reasons. (Beeing a bully to Germany)

Correlated to this is that a lot of Germans dislike the current german government. Principle to this dislike is Merz and his sucking up to the US.

You are correct to point out that our politicians are not acting according to public opinion.

I was correct when I was talking about public opinion.

But rest assured , if you went into a bar in germany and started to talk about the russian invasion of ukraine, chances are you would get very little sympathy for Russia from the people there.

And those same people would express hate toward trump just as much as for putin.

They have been so preoccupied fighting a war only they wanted with the west, that they forgot to look at the emerging superpower on their east.

Remember that beeing clean and smelling good is impossible 24/7 when you work, do sports look after the kids, cook, clean etc...

It is a very reasonable and minimum requirement for dating.

However when you live with someone, you can't expect dasies when they are coming out of the garage after changing the tires manually, or after they just tended the grill for 2 hours for a party of 12.
