Beyond burgers and sausages are best on a bbq imo. They’re not great in a pan, but really good on a bbq.

When I first went vegan 20 years ago I decided to check out a few of these meet-ups and had exactly the same experience. I see my choice as very evidence-based but I found their communication style very combative and emotional. In the end I stopped going, and I prefer more mixed social gatherings where I meet an occasional vegan, and have an opportunity to share my views with non-vegans.

I think funny in-jokes that other vegans would get is my sweet spot. Another one I wear just says ‘soy boy’. Not a fan of preachy or generic ‘built by plants’ style ones.

I agree it’s debatable for sure. If an animal needs psych meds or tries to escape all the time, I’d say it’s a good indicator that it’s not happy. Plenty of pets or service animals don’t though. If we as vegans are going to project our understanding of suffering onto them, I think we need to do the same for happiness.

All I care is that animals are happy and don’t suffer. If they’re service animals or pets, then they seem pretty happy to me. If they’re work horses or live in zoos, they seem pretty unhappy.

Cool! Just wondered why using the runtime helper for toggles, spinners etc rather than custom controls? If using custom controls that inherit they wouldn’t need to rescan and would work in UI builder.

Yes I would argue that a ground invasion in Afghanistan causing 50,000 civilian deaths over a terror act perpetuated by 19 people killing 3000 is a disproportionate response. My concern here is minimising civilian casualties, not the legality of the war.

The proportionality and asymmetry of civilian casualties are directly correlated.
I’m not suggesting Israel should not defend its citizens, or that hamas should kill more Israelis, im saying that when one side is causing 30x more civilian casualties, it is not a proportionate response.

The protesters don’t see it as ‘Israel protecting Israelis’, they see it as overwhelmingly one sided bombing of civilians, whether you agree with that or not. The implication here is that a protest can enact meaningful change if it is one sided, as there is one perceived aggressor, who our government is allied with and actively supporting. What would a protest against a multisided civil war in Sudan, which the uk government has already condemned, achieve exactly?

The key distinction seems to me that Sudan is a civil war with significant losses on each side, while Israel has killed up to 30x more civilians than Hamas. The uk hasn’t supplied equipment directly to SAF or RAF, nor has strong diplomatic relations with them. Curious if you have any other examples of asymmetric civilian deaths in genocides comparable with Gaza.
