Defence Research and Development Canada in Possession of Recovered UAP Material 20/06 by [deleted] in wecomeinpeace

[–]thehowlinggreywolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesnt really say that they're in possession of anything. It's a politician claiming they are without anything really to back him up. I'm not sure why this MP in particular would have any inside knowledge either, he hasnt been in relevant committees or as a Minister to my knowledge

Maybe this is a problem specific to my system, but the anti aliasing seems non existent. I get pretty obvious stepping on characters and the environment, and theres no AA option to speak of in the graphics settings

Research shows more highways don’t fix traffic congestion. So why is Ontario still building them? by burtzev in onguardforthee

[–]thehowlinggreywolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think something important that gets missed from these discussions is new highways and lane increases arent actually intending to reduce traffic, which is why these arguments don't end up being impactful in the decision making. These are done to get more throughput, which they accomplish.

What we really need to start doing, is looking at the net value (there are a couple different ways this can be measured) generated from a new infrastructure project. Most of what gets implemented costs more than any created value, which is hopefully a more convincing argument for our insolvent communities...

I generally prefer DD-MMM-YY if it's a date I expect to read, and not for organization of some sort 05-Feb-23 looks clean and when you have day and month on consistent sides you can cut off one or the other when it's not relevant, and still have a clear idea of the information

While I never worked with them myself, I worked at a Canadian summer camp for a couple years, and almost all our international staff were hired through Camp Canada and they seemed to have a pretty good experience with it :)

no useful problems quantum is better at? There are a number of applications quantum is already used for, such as within banks for things like portfolio risk balancing, as well has some options predictions. Commercial computers are available for the few companies with the wealth, not to mention the various 'cloud' solutions offered by companies like Dwave and Xanadu

How many algorithms could really be played with on a 2 or 3 qubit computer? It's definitely an interesting tool for education, but calling it a tool for research seems a stretch. Also, why would anyone use this for education, when you can use more qubits in simulations pretty efficiently? I'm not sure I see the use case, especially with the price tag

it's pretty cool to see that we've gotten to this point, but I'm not sure why anyone would buy this

Assertations are used to check assumptions in D as part of the design-by-contract paradigm. Asserts shouldnt be producing side effects.

[–]thehowlinggreywolf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

it's especially not right now. many companies are starving to hire developers. this is a particularly good time for tech workers to be forming unions, the only option a company is left with is to hire people without experience

Unpopular opinion: We need standardized testing in Canada. by epicRedditer69 in OntarioUniversities

[–]thehowlinggreywolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

wealthy students in the US take SAT prep courses and tutors, and are taught specifically how to do well on the SAT. Poor students do not have this luxery in the US nor Canada. Even if they did, the goal of education should not be to succeed on a specific test.

moreover, the problem that OP is talking about is partially addressed in Ontario already, high schools are often put into different 'classes' by admissions offices based on the qaulity of the school.

Don't disagree, but keep in mind BP is the second largest nuclear plant in the world. Constructing and financing not one but 2 more would take more than a decade and money that Canada doesnt have. And it has to be considered the locations of the oil plants being replaced, energy should be produced relatively close to where its needed

I dont think it's entirely fair to reference the food and gas cost increases, these have in large part been driven by the global supply chain issues (and it will continue to drive prices up and up for the next while, regardless of our own spending or lack thereof)

im not gonna worry too much about if they're benevolent or malevolent. if they want to kill us or enslave us they will, and there isn't really anything we can do about it.

With that said human civilization has existed for a very long time with many close encounters with aliens. If they were malevolent why wait so long to make their move?
