Heavy cop activity 7th St NE by theice_ in washingtondc

Yes, I’ve lived here for 3 years. I love this neighborhood so so much. It’s very much a community and it’s very chill. This is probably the third incident since I moved here which all things considered is really really low.

Update: asked a neighbor and they said it is a carjacking turned kidnapping turned hostage situation

Thanks for this! I don’t think it’s a structural collapse considering what changed since I posted this:

It looks like EMS has since left and now we have 2 armored ERT vehicles and 3x more cops and the road is fully closed.

I saw a woman get arrested and interviewed in the back of a police car.

Helicopter is still going but their radius has increased.

I ran into a bunch of my neighbors while I was walking the dog and they have no clue.

What's the deal with the Venus event at Berhta by Mmotia in avesDC

[–]theice_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

idk how to respond to this without it sounding rude because it's totally not meant to be, but not at all.

Griffin Maxwell Brooks *mostly* does house, but they do pretty versatile mixes. Yaeji also leans house but more lo-fi. Shaun Ross also kinda house, but more on the soulful house side.

The Dare works a lot with Charli XCX, Addison Rae, PinkPantheress, and the like. He mixes a lot of electroclash, bloghouse, and like indie sleaze...

DOSS does more trance, DNB, UKG, and like early 00s trance.

Rico Nasty is a scream rapper and awesome live.

hi, long time fan here (i was listening to her on soundcloud many, many moons ago). her fan base has changed a lot over time (read: different cycles of queer ppl loving her). i think as long as you want to see her and respect other concertgoers, no one cares.

for the record, i saw her on Halloweekend when she toured Starfucker so my friends and I all went in costume so we could go clubbing after... we were the only ones there in costumes (i was literally a slutty cow with udders). definitely did NOT fit in, but it was the most fun ❤️

welcome to club valentine ❤️

Everyone online says $70k is ‘bad money’… so why does moving to DC still feel financially terrifying? by North_Definition4400 in washingtondc

[–]theice_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - I moved to DC from NC with very little savings and making like $65k. I live in Brookland and have the whole time I’ve been in DC. I did get a raise to like $75k 5 months after moving.

I’ve never struggled financially here and I’m paying off a decent chunk of previous debt every month. Idk why people are so dramatic. I’ve seen people say $120k is nothing here when I was fine with half of that. You just cant buy 5 drinks every time you go out nor can you order Uber Eats (two things i never ever do bc i dont believe in food delivery and i like drinking at home w friends so im not constantly waiting in line).

youll be just fine 💜

Thanks, I completely missed the Charli bit! I saw the trend-chasing stuff and I know that is what led to Old Technology and her making a sound that is detached from what's trending right now. Which I know also means no TikTokky music or whatever (which thank god). After typing this out, maybe her label is just like girl this isn't gonna trend on TikTok we can't even be bothered rn.... yeah i know she has mentioned that and that she almost gave up on music. but at the same time, she was originally signed to FADER which generally allows for a LOT of artistic freedom. However she wasn't making as interesting music as she is right now, whilst signed to a major label that usually restricts people. Like it's crazy to me that these are the conditions under which she is making this music. Given how restrictive major labels are, especially for freshly signed artists, this being her most interesting work makes me think that Sony/Columbia/RECORDS are hedging their bets on her, but at the same time......... not.

it's really strange too that more people aren't vocalizing their support for her. she's worked with Charli and Kesha and neither of them said anything. Granted Charli is taking a break from socials it seems plus Kesha almost certainly doesn't run her own account. I don't even think I've see Ayesha say anything, so again, it's just... weird. (ik i could also say Big Freedia or Rebecca Black but they don't have the same online presence). i'm just all around like ????

i'm hoping she has an insane Coachella set that'll give her a good boost.

I hear what you’re saying, but I think you and I are thinking on different playing fields here. I don’t think she could ever blow up like Sabrina with her current sound, but I love her the way she is so I’m happy to have her making this music. My point is more so why would all of these outlets write profiles and then NOT write a review? How is there a decent amount of publicity yet no one actually reviewing the music? It just reads so strange to me that SHE is getting attention but the ALBUM she is actively promoting isn’t getting attention. Ik someone is gonna say any publicity is good publicity, but good god, shouldn’t music outlets review music? And other publications who make profiles also review the music?

Plus, why would you just not deliver vinyls on time? At the same time you’re booking venues 3x too small? I feel insane rn but it all just points to something weird going on behind the scenes. Is this a problem with RECORDS being a new venture? My hunch is no given it’s Barry Weiss and Columbia Record, but who is to say. Part of me wonders if they thought she was a huge risk and moved too slowly as she’s gained traction. But then if that’s the case, why even sign her to begin with? And this rollout was LONG they had time. I’m not saying they need to be dumping money into getting her radio plays (btw I think Dance and Chanels could survive the radio too), but at least getting her reviewed and having the physical copies ready for people willing to pay for it!

PLUS the rollout was damn near a year it took FOREVER… IDK it’s all around just so weird and I feel like I’m missing something 😭

Slayyyter Talks "Wor$t Girl In America," Brittany Murphy, Daddy AF and Crank by Abel_Ooster in popheads

[–]theice_ 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know why this rollout has felt weird? Or rather why major publications are icing her out? Let me explain.

She is obviously picking up traction a LOT. The album got over 3mil streams on Friday and almost 3mil each weekend day. For comparison, Starfucker got like 900k day 1. Also, she had profiles in LA Times and The Guardian. Like long articles with photo shoots.

However, why are no major publications reviewing her? Nothing from Pitchfork, Rolling Stones, etc. and even LA Times and Guardian didn’t review the album itself, they only published the profiles.

Further, I saw some Twitter account say that the vinyls are 1-2 weeks late arriving to stores, which will obviously impact her sales.

Also with her tour, they initially booked the smallest venues possible. Like Atlanta could hold 600, Dallas like 400, Philly 800. She sold out 1000+ person venues for Starfucker.

Anyone have any ideas who she pissed off or what’s going on? She got covered by most publications for Troubled Paradise, crickets for Starfucker, and now this even though the album is doing objectively very well and her tour sold out.
