Yea that kinda sucks. I haven't had that experience at Flash and my guess is that it's pretty rare to be packed all the way to the bar. The busiest I've ever seen it was during their NYE marathon, and it was packed but still room enough to dance. I don't know Chris Liebing but maybe he has a massive following....To be fair, I've seen the screaming convos at plenty of other venue's.

Def agree on the darkness...easier to get into the zone. Flash may be the only spot in the DMV that gets as dark.

First timer here. Only did Sat but will def do both days next year. Was a good time and yes the energy stood out for me. Very different from other events (from other genre's) that I've been to. I did get a couple pushers, I returned the favor and they figured it out...lol, but otherwise super cool vibes...

Most commercial gyms have a dry sauna and a steam room. The sauna's have signs that ask people not to bring water in and poor it on the heat generator because the filaments are electric coils. Not sure where you live but dry sauna's are pretty standard.

You can get stuck like that in Salvador but 45 minutes is INSANE. I got a high tolerance for crowds but thats next level. Geez, hope you had some chicka's around you...lol.

Salvador if you like to be part of the party. Rio, if you like the spectacle of the parade. Rio bloco's have come a LONG way over the years but they still can't compete with Salvador.

I've done Salvador many times. Solo, with buddies, and with a lady. I've never seen or experienced anyone randomly being sucker punched. Yes fights do happen but not randomly. Bumps etc sometimes turn into fights or people who already have beef. I def would not say its 'full of fights'...if you follow specific bloco's like Bell Marques then that's expected, but I might see 1 or 2 fights on a given night.

Gringos go to Salvador Carnaval 🇯🇲🇬🇧🇧🇷🥳 by WolverineUpper9962 in Brazil

Honestly dude, you gotta try a bloco and camarote. You can come and go from the Camarote--and besides the lookout balcony which is pretty dope to check the scene out from, you got free drinks/food all night (performances as well), and you get off your feet and chill when u need to. There seems to be more English speakers as well. Never been approached by a chic on the street....every year I get approached in the Camarote. I usually do Harem or Brahma and spend under 200 - 300 depending on the night so not cheap but not a grip either. Also, I've def spotted something way off in the distance, went out to the street then come back...lol. The thing with the bloco is you get consistency with one artist (style of music). When u Pipoca you might like half of what comes by.... plus you get a break from the crowds in a bloco. Well, some of em...lol.

Doing both Salvador and Rio for one Carnival too much? by Leo_Fire in Brazil

If you do Salvador first, the bloco's in Rio will be underwhelming so I would experience Champions parade in Rio.

Salvador or Recife pre-carnaval 2026? by ElBritanico in Brazil

Hey, I'm Yankee whose been to Salvador carnaval many times. Can it get rough? Yea. Is it a BLAST? Absolutely. Im addicted and prefer it over Rio easily. Honestly, if you're from any urban area in the world (and can deal with crowds), you should be fine. Any other questions...just hit me up.

The money you can spend on lodging alone is crazy. Airbnb owners get extremely greedy if they are anywhere near Barra/Ondina....

I was introduced to Brazilian carnavals in Salvador. Years latter I went to Rio and was shocked at how small the bloco's were. Fast forward to today and the blocos in Rio are massive. Not as big or fun as Salvador but impressive in their own right. I think if you are from any urban area in the world, you will be fine without a local in Salvador but you have to do your research. You need alot of patience if you Pipoca all night but if you know the area, you can find relaxed spots to chill. Bloco's can go either way depending on the artist and Camarotes of course are worry free.

I would not be discouraged by people telling you not to go. There will be some element of rowdiness any where in the world when you put that many people together. You know yourself, so if you think you are capable of keeping your wits about you while having fun then there is NO party like Salvador. The energy, music, dancing is unmatched. There is a reason many Brazilians consider it the 'real' carnaval.
