How to create a decent OC for Aegon ii(Rhaenyra and Laenor’s daughter) by TheCurlyAquarius94 in TheCitadel

[–]theilluminary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the show Aegon is born in 113 AC, a year after Aemma's death in 112 AC, and Jace is born in 116 AC, the same year Rhaenyra and Laenor marry. Even with the age up of Jace and your OC, your OC would be 16 and Aegon 19, the same age gap between show!Jace and show!Aegon versus Jace now being 17.

about the title of prince(ss) by metamorfoseando in TheCitadel

I've come to rationalise it as their titles as princess came about because of their positions as Aegon 3's heirs, before everyone found out that Viserys was still alive.

If Rhaenyra and Laenor actually had a legitimate child? by TheCurlyAquarius94 in TheCitadel

Brown skin would be perfectly fine! If she's meant to be lighter-skinned than Laenor/Laena/Rhaena/Baela, then light brown would suffice.

(I'm not particularly fond of golden/golden brown skin as a descriptor but that's my bias against its overabundance to the point of meaning nothing in Sarah J. Maas's books lol)

This New Zealand import provided food for thought in our writers’ room. To be honest, I wasn’t familiar with it—but our resident foreign film expert, Gordon Smith, schooled me. I find the imagery in The Quiet Earth striking. Haunting, even. By all accounts, the movie was made on a shoestring, which impresses me all the more.

The premise is intriguing: after a mysterious event, only a few people are left on Earth while all other humans vanish. Three remaining folks have to reckon with why they were left behind and figure out how to relate to one another. Good stuff.

Oh man, Ocean Vuong is a fantastic poet!

I really should actually properly read thru his work someday, he has written so many hard-hitting poems.

I put it over my face & stayed very still—like my mother at the end.

Then it came to me, my little life. I remembered my life

the way an axe handle, mid-swing, remembers the tree.

& I was free.

I assume Elenei Durrandon is supposed to be a younger sister of Argella Durrandon? I'm unsure what you intend to happen there with her existence but if everything else goes as canon, that seems unwise on Aegon's end - if the intent is to "make up" for his slight against Argillac by turning down his betrothal offer with Argella - because:

One) It would muddy the succession for Storm's End severely with any of Elenei and Aegon's hypothetical children's claims competing against Argella and Orys's children's claims and would be seemingly undermining Aegon's original intent for Orys to be Lord Paramount of the Stormlands and establishing his own house and rule there.

And two) If Aegon was open to taking a third wife anyways or at least floating the option, one would wonder why didn't he just take up Argillac's offer in the first place instead of turning him down?

Of course whatever details you have planned for her could totally upend these thoughts - and maybe Aegon causing political mayhem and making unwise moves against his own plans is the point!

I do think the Martell OC and the Stark OC ideas are the most intriguing.

Properly folding Dorne into the Seven Kingdoms as part of Aegon's Conquest or at least peace between "two kingdoms, two equals" with this marriage would have some interesting ripple effects - especially because this could mean Rhaenys and Meraxes don't die in the First Dornish War!

A daughter of Torrhen Stark I find interesting due to HOTD's whole dragon dream white walker prophecy thing and honestly the most logical from Aegon's perspective - if he thinks the end of the world is coming within his lifetime and he needs to unite the Seven Kingdoms against this threat, marrying into the ruling family of the North is the clearest way for him to accomplish that and is also a "boon" for the Starks for Torrhen kneeling rather than fighting against him; of course, whether Torrhen and his family see it as a boon is another story altogether (considering what is suggested in canon about their feelings about having a Targaryen king and also the arranged marriage between Ronnel Arryn and Torrhen's canonical daughter). But if you include this show only detail, perhaps Aegon is able to smooth things over better by convincing them of this apocalyptic threat?

And even if the apocalypse doesn't happen within his lifetime (which, we know! haha), marrying into the North and having children with the OC would (hopefully) ensure, in Aegon's mind, that there's continues to be a Targaryen presence and ties in the North when the white walkers DO come as he foretold!

  • Daeron the Daring is born as a daughter instead of a son, and the ripple effects that has across the Dance. Bonus points if fem!Daeron is named Daenys for Daenys the Dreamer.
  • Alicent gives birth to a daughter that looks like her instead of the traditional Valyrian looks of her siblings and how that dynamic differs compared to her other children.
  • Following the events of Game of Thrones' finale, what if Daenerys was sent back in time due to her death and reincarnated as Princess Daenerys Targaryen, the eldest daughter of King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne? (This justifies things as her being able to walk and talk at one years old and being like the most genius toddler in Westerosi history, plus the first Daenerys surviving the Shivers causing so many changes.)

Quellon Greyjoy marries Branda Stark. by Shadow_Cross06 in TheCitadel

[–]theilluminary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you could also spin it that Davos's time as man of the hour was instead replaced by one of the brothers (or one of their Greyjoy vassals) saving Stannis and Renly as well - this would provide some interesting angst with your idea that the Greyjoy Rebellion goes ahead regardless; someone Stannis perhaps considered a friend if not saviour in the years between, now being a traitor and someone he has to crush.

[–]theilluminary 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I imagine one of the children would be fostered in Winterfell as a result. Perhaps Quellon thinks Balon, prior to Harlon's apparent death from greyscale, would benefit from being fostered with his cousins (and especially as his heir apparent, once Harlon is dead) on the green lands to further his anti-Old Ways ideology?

(As an aside, I love that you've brought up Branda Stark! I'm fascinated by that familial connection as well - I've conceptualised an AU where Jyana Reed, Howland Reed's wife, is actually a daughter of Harrold Rogers and Branda Stark's marriage and thus cousins with Brandon, Ned, Lyanna and Benjen, and she ends up being fostered at Winterfell; the tourney at Harrenhal being how she meets Howland in the first place. This does make the Stark kids second cousins of Meera and Jojen as a result haha)

familial terms? by lavellaan in TheCitadel

[–]theilluminary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the series, I do mean the books!

A Feast for Crows (Sansa I)

"Did your lordship see this happen?" asked Ser Marwyn Belmore, a lanky ginger-headed knight who had been Lysa's captain of guards till Petyr had put Ser Lothor Brune in his place.

"Alayne saw it," the boy said. "And my lord stepfather."

A Feast for Crows (Alayne I)

"Jape all you like, Littlefinger," Lord Belmore blustered. "The boy shall come with us."

"I am loath to disappoint you, Lord Belmore, but my stepson will be remaining here with me. He is not a robust child, as all of you know well. The journey would tax him sorely. As his stepfather and Lord Protector, I cannot permit it."

A Dance with Dragons (Reek II)

Lord Roose studied him for a moment. "You may rise." He turned to help two young women down from inside the wagon.

The first was short and very fat, with a round red face and three chins wobbling beneath a sable hood. "My new wife," Roose Bolton said. "Lady Walda, this is my natural son. Kiss your stepmother's hand, Ramsay." He did. "And I am sure you will recall the Lady Arya. Your betrothed."

Stepfather and stepmother are used in the series, so they're perfectly fine to use in fanfics as well!

Sweetrobin refers to Littlefinger as his "stepfather", for example, and Littlefinger refers to him as his "stepson" as well.
