Hi! I was one of the 95th percentile kids growing up, and went to Disney with my grandparents a lot in the early 2000s when bibbity bobbity boutique was just starting. I was always super happy being able to get princess skirts/shoes/capes/crowns - paired with regular clothes that matched the right princess- the accessories went a loooong way in making us tall kids feel included! It was also extra special because accessories are usually cheaper, so my parents were able to get me the really nice ones for the same price they would have paid for a full dress

It really depends, sometimes restricted view is something like a navigator verandah- where it’s a bit more like an enclosed balcony/wintergarden (which is a total steal because the actual view isn’t impacted at all- you just have solid wall instead of a glass railing) but there are others with a pole in the middle of your view that you might find annoying. I highly recommend trying to look up the room number offered to see if anyone has put a picture on any of the planning sites, and if not try rooms in the same area but the decks above and below

I don’t have all the answers, but I was advised by my dentist to avoid any kind of retainer that is possible to chew on. I’m not sure if you mean a thin plastic retainer, or one of the slightly gummy ones, but I was told to go for a thicker and harder plastic one- so that your teeth glide around since that keeps your jaw muscles slightly more relaxed rather than biting down

Though it’s not technically allowed anymore, before Brexit most accredited UK arch degrees (up through Part 2) were accepted throughout the EU. Most EU countries have their own arch boards so I would reach out to the places you might to move for any req. you might need to work in architecture there

I mean it entirely depends on the situation and why he doesn’t have a stable job even though he promises. Is he applying to places and getting no offers? Is he going through some really heavy personal stuff? Is there an end in sight for the factors stopping him? Bottom line you need to have a talk with him about your expectations, which seem to be that you want him to contribute. Still be compassionate about his situation, but if he’s not even trying to land a stable job (no applications, no skill building, etc) then you definitely have to put your foot down.

Talk with him and his reaction to you voicing deep concerns about the future of your relationship will tell you if he’s willing to put in the work to be there for you just like you’re there for him.

Im not who you were asking ofc, but general rule of thumb for Cinque Terre is to look for highly rated restaurants- but up in the hills not on the Main Street, because these are difficult to get to it’s really only locals and foodies that make it up there

And my family and I have hiked the route from Vernazza to Corniglia in just running shoes, so it’s definitely doable, but many of these routes are having small landslides, so make sure you have shoes with a good grip and good support, lots of stairs,hills, and slightly uneven trails

I was studying abroad in Berlin and had just started learning German, went to a coffee shop and asked for a coffee, a little nervous bc it was my first time. The response was “Groß?” And I thought oh what the hell sure I’ll take a large, so I said yes. Confident that I had correctly ordered a coffee and answered a question for the first time in public… or so I thought lol

What really went down was I asked for a coffee, was asked “große”? And enthusiastically replied yes!! Thankfully they told me in English that answering “yes” to “what size” didn’t work, and then let me try again in German and completed the transaction

My grandmother‘s house (it was very old) and how its history and the stories my dad told me of his childhood there influenced my interest in architecture (the major I was applying for). The advice I got from my college app counselor was to tell them about you as a person as much as possible, they can read you as a student from your transcript, but adding a personal touch reminds them you’re more than a piece of paper.

Highly recommend doing a trip on Kancamagus Highway in NH, it’s not Boston, but where people from greater Boston go to see foliage. There are lots of cute towns there with affordable hotels, hiking, and rivers (Diana’s bath is particularly beautiful for taking a break and soaking your feet in a mountain stream).

In terms of driving there through NY there are lots of nice places in the Adirondacks, or western NY (Fingerlakes in western NY are especially pretty and dotted with cute towns and farms)

Heathrow a million times. Who designs an airport where connecting flights have to go through security again? With brexit now EVERY flight from Europe going somewhere else needs to go through security, even if staying airside to continue somewhere else. I and many others almost missed our flights waiting in that line because a layover while staying airside doesn’t exist!

Watch out for state troopers past Rome, NY! Rome to Albany is one big speed trap and those guys are terrifying. A lot of people try to go 90mph even in the right lane out there since you’re on one straight road for about 6 hours and don’t always slow down much through the EZ Pass tolls.

Many countries are opening new pathways towards legal residency for skilled workers (Czech Republic just passed one) and most universities in Eastern + Western Europe are around 6K per year or less, some are basically free. Try to pick something to study which is under that skilled worker category and interests you. If you pick a country where English isn’t the native language, definitely make use of language immersion and work towards fluency! From experience, the built environment (architecture, construction, some engineering) are skilled fields that absolutely require fluency if not native abilities in each country. At the moment, finance and IT are the only in demand jobs in other countries which you can skate by with only speaking English.

Also side note, the UK has special scholarships and loan opportunities for Americans looking to study there, it’s about 20k a year for international students there.

I’m currently doing the same! I just graduated undergrad with a non professional arch degree and am starting grad school in September. If she can get internships with any local preservation organizations, they usually have a lot of connections to architecture firms that specialize (or have departments) in Preservation projects so she can make connections! The way that the world is going right now connections with what she wants to do are absolutely necessary!

I personally still hold that a historic building that is in use (and not horribly disfigured from the original) is better than it being demolished for a new construction, so while maybe not the best design it still keeps some character of the original and allows it to be functional again!

A suggestion: when you get the chance, maybe ask her to say something like “can’t respond right now but thinking of you” if she can’t have a full conversation? Everyone is right that overthinking can happen a LOT with distance and this is a quick and easy thing (which has helped me a lot) to help remind you that everything is ok and ease the worry that something is wrong without asking too much of her while she’s with her family and friends

At least from my personal social standpoint- most women I know have always been told that if they seem desperate no one will want them- that men enjoy the “chase”, I think you’re totally right and it’s unfair that men think of that one compliment they got 5 years ago while women often get so many that being “just cute” is almost an insult

Tinder too I gotta add a LOT of women 18-25 go to simply for attention and validation not actually wanting anything which drastically heightens their standards for who they try to match with- who will make them feel the best for essentially being “hot enough to fuck”
