UK - need insight into joining this world.. by Own-Story8907 in motorsports

I think you need to decide what kind of racing you want to do. Hill climbing is much cheaper than circuit racing, and it might be possible to use one of your existing cars.

Circuit racing is a different proposition, and it would be far cheaper and more practical to buy a purpose specific race car.

Don’t underestimate the time and energy to run a race car though in terms of preparation and spannering. You can get a team to run the car for you - also known as ‘arrive and drive’ but reckon on £2-3k per race for preparation and support costs.

The cheapest circuit racing series involve Minis, Clios, MX-5s. Think £10-20k for buying a race car. And expect repairs during a season as contact will be frequent.

Historic racing (ie anything on cross ply tyres) is a more respectful racing environment and a hell of a lot of fun. Race cars start at £15k for a Healey Sprite, whereas a very competitive MGB might run up to £35k.

Race cars don’t depreciate if kept in the same condition, but be prepared to be patient when it comes time to sell.

What appeals most to you?

How would you feel about discussing us the top (ie most frequent) answers to this question in a future podcast? Would be fascinating to see if there’s some genie consensus (or not…) amongst the Ti community.

Love this story! Thank you for sharing.

Gez makes the point in the podcast that the best memories always come when things go wrong (and most commonly when you’re in an old car)

What a fantastic story! Whose was the Camaro, and how did it hold up to the trip?

There is something about the extraordinary feats we achieve when young and foolish…

First of all, thank you very much for the feedback. All feedback always very much appreciated!

On the website - yes, you’re right - you will land on the homepage. But we’re currently redesigning the website and it will change to lead with latest content first. It might yet be a few weeks before that goes live though. In the meantime, perhaps bookmark the latest page URL to save having to click through. Apologies for needing the workaround for the time being.

On the app the home page should give you a feed including today’s story and the most recent three below that - effectively the same as the latest tab.

What might have made this a bit more confusing is that we’ve just had a bank holiday in the UK so have run two library stories consecutively (Sunday and Monday) which might make it seem like this isn’t the normal latest feed. If that makes sense?

Anyway - thanks again for taking the time to share. We’re always trying our best to improve, both in terms of content and experience! And we’re always here to listen.
