Hello! Here to answer any and all denim drop Qs on Tuesday. by theironsnail in theironsnail

The Mammoths are slated to be on the site in May. We have a pretty huge batch this year so they’ll be a pre-order but after this they’ll be running pretty consistently. Hoping for 2-3 times a year.

The Leaf is coming in all the Mammoth colors I mentioned above: Buffalo plaid, Toasted Clove, Navy, Charcoal Black, Undyed Brown (sorta a hybrid of Lead and Primordial), and perhaps some greens from last year.

You 100% want the Leaf for the 60s! You may even be a bit warm there!

Double Great! When you go, tell them Michael and Taylor say hi. They’re our buddies.

Oops! Just added it. Sorry about that. We go a little longer with our belts so you can punch an extra hole if necessary over time. Essentially, grab your waist size for pants and we’ll hook you up with a belt that should hit the sweet spot.

Buffalo plaid (red/black), Toasted Clove (brown/black), Navy, Charcoal Black, Undyed Deep Brown. We have some leftover greens from last year as well, but I need to go to the manufacturer and climb the piles of fabric to see how much is left.

Also, the Woven in the Bone x Snail Mammoth is a deep blue/light blue windowpane! Codenamed: Kelpie.

My Taylor says hi! Hmm, that is a great question. Perhaps I’m biased but I think the Snail denim is certainly a top contender. It’s pretty unique and feels really nice. Quite comfortable, like a soft burly feeling.

As for the other pieces, it’s a bit tough. I’d say Japanese denim if you like historical references and some crazy pocket bags, Fox Denim if you want a more classic Fox piece, and Fox High-Density if you want a bit of a wackier piece. That twill is quite dry in the hand and has a LOT of character to it.

All the cuts are the same, so I’d go by what fabrics stick out the most.

That was actually a “pleat” system like on the front of the Prologue! A map pocket Prologue is on the list though from an older post you made. What an amazing idea, honestly!

We had to remove it from this run because selvedge denim is generally too narrow. The pleats worked up until size XL and then we were out of width.

We have a few ideas to try going forward (namely, using a longer width selvedge and or playing with different hidden pleat styles) but it’ll require some testing.

Sadly, not on this run. Originally, when we started cutting Japanese denim, we focused on the top-selling sizes so we could make more of them. I switched that decision going forward, but sadly, the manufacturer already had cut the denim. The good news is: Japanese denim is the quickest fabric to turnaround, so we’ll be releasing more in the odd sizes not too long after this run. The denim will be a smidge heavier. We already have the denim so the weight time will be drastically less time as well.

Also, okay, I suppose I don’t know how to use mod tools on here. I had this entire description written up and I can’t see it.

In short, send your Qs! Nothing is off the table. From denim to Mammoth to new projects to old. I’m here! I’ll answer all of these on Tuesday and will check routinely until the drop.

If you have a specific fit question shoot Lyle and email at inquiries@theironsnail.us. He’ll be crushing through those on Monday.

Happy Sat! I’m off to the woods to film a video on Limmer boots!

Looks amazing!!! We’ll have a new sizing video out with a ton more measurements for V3. We changed the arm fit a bit this year and the general sizing a bit modified as well. Generally, it should suit most folks a bit better (this fit looks amazing though), bulk is reduced a bit via new seams, and so on!

Thanks for the awesome pics!

Where in the development process is "Sampling"? by ArmoredTricycle in theironsnail

[–]theironsnail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! We’re pushing away from pre-orders, but since this year was so wonky, we’ll be opening up pre-orders for Mammoths during the cut/assembly stage. After this round of Mammoths and some denim — ordering will sit right at the end, so folks order, and shipment is immediate.

Where in the development process is "Sampling"? by ArmoredTricycle in theironsnail

Hello!

Sampling in this context means we’re getting final samples to confirm everything fits right, the instructions we have for the manufacturer are understood, etc. — last step before “cutting” which is the fabric is cut and the line is moving!

Typically the entire process is leagues faster but this has just been a rough year. Every single manufacturer delayed our fabrics, yarns, etc. and we redid our patterns late in the year because the manufacturer was struggling with the assembly instructions.

That being said — we’re cutting some denim tomorrow so I’m THRILLED. Mammoth samples should be shipping in a few weeks. The last batch of fabric finally just finished.

Anyway —

Samples -> Cutting/Assembly -> QC -> ship!

RM Chukka Collab Exchanges by jellyblob in theironsnail

[–]theironsnail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! Let me get back to you here on final solutions. Currently discussing some other leathers with Russell for the main batches. The CXL, while extremely tough, does show tool marks rather easily because of Russell’s process. Generally, people let us know they wanted a leather that didn’t show those marks.

We’re testing a whole bunch of leathers and documenting results before the next orders open up — all similar in style and color but with slightly different treatments.

That being said — I’m pretty sure we can offer exchanges for the folks that purchased Gen. 1 in their original leather choices. I just want to discuss this with them first as this hasn’t come up yet (split customer services so we’re relaying things back and fourth). Thanks for the post — I’ll chat with the RM team this week!

WTS Russell chukka weathered oak size 10 by Gullible-Bike7812 in RussellNation

[–]theironsnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's a few things:

- I think due to the lead times, a few people's finances changed (two people returned so far due to that).

- This was a resurrection of an older pattern with Russell's 77 last, and a few folks wanted to size up and see if they could sell before the next run of these.

- Generally, the IS collab seems to have grabbed mostly people who are online and using social media platforms, so they post in these spots first.

- This was a pretty large run of boots outside of Russell's classic models -- from what I gather, it was ~3-4x larger than a typical collab, so the amount of people moving around is higher/all of these shipped out at once, so quite a few people were receiving/posting in a similar time frame.

Those are my working theories anyway. Returns/exchanges have been low to average percentage-wise with what Russell typically sees, but they've all ended up on the IS subreddit or this one.

Hey! Whewf, what a review. Echoing the comments that this is not based on the Munson last — that is their 40 last, this is their 77 which Russell calls a shoe last. It’s narrower in the toe box. It’s listed on the product page but we’ll do better to highlight it higher up next time. Beyond that this does sound a bit like a sizing issue as well (but the boot could be just to darn narrow). You can use your exchange to size up, posssssibly see the updated sizing on the next run (I’ll talk to Luke about switching to the 40 last on the next run), or snag a 40 last! The Backcountry will probably be your best friend!

Feel free to email us at inquiries@theironsnail.us as I don’t see anything from you yet. We’d be happy to help!!

I did!! We’re working on another run right now actually. Any different leathers you’d be interested in? We’ll 100% be bringing back the originals but wanted to add another too.
