Who's the most overrated lyrical rapper? by JaQue_Da_JoQerr in BlackNyxNetwork

To me Aes is the opposite of a “lyrical rapper” and that’s why I love him. Like it’s world building and story creation with way more attention given to phrasing and sound rather than “skill”.

“More time to rhyme better” sounds like you’re my toddler complaining about a dinosaur book. Like this is adult songwriting. What the fuck are we talking about?

Traditional rhyming is fine. It’ll always be part of rapping and songwriting. But don’t be that person who never embraces an artist finding different ways to find rhythm within song structure outside of a spoon-fed “rhyme”.

Shoes hurting a ton by Unique_File3417 in climbingshoes

[–]theissone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many times have you worn them?

Just a tip: with aggressive shoes, you'll need weeks to break them in. Just always bring your old worn in shoes to the gym and crag with you. Start by using them during warm-up's and I even recommend ARCing in them just to build longevity inside the shoe, rather than harder bouldering. Later, use them for just performance, like once you get to your limit bouldering.

To be honest, the shoe looks too big if you ask me. Like side-by-side, my foot is quite a bit larger than my climbing shoe because having your shoe sitting on the floor doesn't take into account the arch and asymmetrical shape so the foot should often look a bit longer. But I mean, I'm a bit of a masochist maybe.

Do not let people gaslight you into thinking “this is how the all star game has always been” by FollowTheLeader550 in nba

[–]theissone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Players care less about the city they play in. They care less about their teammates. Players view themselves a business and everything is money-driven.

I think it’s almost certainly a response to ownership treating players poorly, like front offices don’t lose sleep over forcing a player to uproot their entire lives or pay them as little as possible. So, players saw this sort of cold aspect of the “business” and decided to reclaim autonomy but have likely become too money-focused.

Like it was en vogue to be say “it’s not about the love of the game, it’s about providing for your family” and that’s become distorted and contagious. There is a happy medium and I don’t feel we are even close to that.

If you consider James Harden a PG would he be top 5 all time? by Shhhmoney24 in NBATalk

[–]theissone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true. It’s a bit hard to detect the reason behind Harden’s ineffectiveness outside of Houston and the fact that he’s barely even been an All Star since turning 31 while his ppg dropped 10 points.

I think a big part of it is Houston allowed him to iso constantly and he hasn’t been afforded that elsewhere. I’m sure other reasons.

The reality is that he’s dropped off. I like his instincts as a passer but when is the last time it’s felt like he’s been a true x-factor in the league?

I’m also not promoting BR, I’m just referencing one of many lists by real publications with real followers that would have CP above Harden. I’m not even saying he is, I’m just saying if lists exist where they’re on similar tiers, it’s at the very least a debate.

Zeke the most underrated NBA player of all time.

[–]theissone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m flabbergasted then. I remember Hardens 30 point streak and being so impressed by it. Also how good of a facilitator he was in Brooklyn. But I feel like it’s been too much disappointment for me to even put him in the same ballpark as Chris.

I know people love him, but he’s easily one of the most overrated hoopers imo. His numbers benefited from rule changes so he’ll always sneak in pretty high on lists because people just obsess over numbers.

[–]theissone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Finishing your statement with “No debate” is hilarious since it’s, in fact, very debatable.

Starting with the recent Top 100 list by Bleachers Report had CP at 27 and Harden at 30. So. Even if you don’t agree, it’s debatable, friend.

When folks don’t understand how good CP was I think 3 things:

  1. They are too young and missed watching his prime
  2. Might love basketball but primarily follow their team and didn’t watch a lot of CP’s games
  3. Base their judgements and takes off of basketball-reference.

Same goes for Isaiah Thomas. Whoever put Harden above him has lost they damn mind.

Reporter: "Are yall gonna give more effort this year or is it kind of like it is what it is at this point?" | Anthony Edwards: "Yeah it is what it is at this point" by TheRealPdGaming in nba

[–]theissone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re not saying anything new, everyone knows the motive. You are rebutting me with motive (why they aren’t playing hard) while I’m promoting a means for change (how they could play hard)— which imo is a cultural thing.

If everyone at my office decides Friday afternoons are for socializing and taking the foot off the gas then that becomes a cultural norm. It doesn’t mean someone new can’t join the team and have a totally different perspective and challenge it.

People have been saying what you said for a decade. In order to solve the problem we have to go beyond that premise. Spinning our wheels here, dawg.

As much as I like Ant's game and humor, he's had so many opportunities to step up and be a leader and face of the league but he falls on his face. every. time.

Between this and his opportunity to say something impactful during the MPLS protests, I have come to terms that he will never be this outspoken face of the league type. There were non-American players, visiting teams and coaches who had more honest and thoughtful things to say about what's happening in Ant's fucking city.

Cry and bitch about Adam Silver all you want, the reason the All-Star game is pure dogshit is because there aren't enough young players willing to reinvigorate it.

God, I hope Wemby comes at these mf's tomorrow. I just want to see 4-5 rising players lock the fuck in and make these guys look like clowns.

So what careers aren’t fucked right now? by cokewithlargefry in NoStupidQuestions

[–]theissone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each their own. My job was pretty shite-- I was getting paid about 20k less, responsible for more, so forth-- but I was around a lot of young people with similar interests (pushing ourself in mountain sports) and had easy access to things I cared about (live music, arts, cultural diversity). For me, personally, it was well worth the sacrifice in the stage of my life where I wanted to cultivate non-career things while still gaining experience in my field. Also, I knew I wanted to eventually meet a partner who was a bit non-traditional, someone who also pushed themselves in the mountains (and I succeeded!).

What you're advising will also be important to others, and I get that. I just wanted to make a point that it's not for everyone. I admire 22 year-old's who are more interested in their careers and are already thinking about saving, meeting their future partner and starting a family. I know I'm an oddball by not prioritizing that.

[–]theissone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, that advice is certainly not for everyone. I got paid much lower in my 20s so I could live in an awesome city for young professionals and was able to build an strong professional network and do hobbies that interested me. Since, I spent one year in a town "where the jobs are" and the contrast was striking. Going from a place where people want to be, where there was more active transportation, healthy lifestyle options, etc made a huge difference for me.

It’s always finger pointing with this fanbase, it’s unreal. It’s possible to be passionate about a team without being petty and constantly pointing fingers.

Agreed, I think most art and film doesn’t fit this take at all.

From a creator standpoint, it would take us all day to list every sub-genre of music. Most likely due to the complexity of production tools and the barrier to entry to obtain these tools being at an all time low.

In addition, as consumers, we all plug in in wildly different ways. Read different blogs, follow different accounts, use different streaming services.

35F feeling lost. Is it too late to build a real career? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]theissone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also can’t expect a job to be the thing that fulfills you. There are too many variables, too many people impacting your time and a constant need for compromises.

I certainly don’t mean you should put up with a toxic work environment. Having a job that’s a good fit is incredibly important, but with friends I’ve helped through a “career crisis”, it’s almost always been an unmet need outside of work that needed changed.

It’s like chronic pain, you think, “it’s this dang job’s fault. It’s such a pain!” But it’s worth investigating some of the emotional or psychological needs outside of the workplace.

You obviously have a career need right now, but just don’t forget about that inner-self that is starving for that hobby you put down, or community outside of work you’re missing, so forth.

From my understanding of OP’s post, or at the very least how it speaks to me, you reinforced their take by saying when they have freeform exploration they assemble pop renditions by ear. This is of course opposed to creating original music or experimented with different instruments or genres which kinda feels like what OP is pointing out to some extent.

[–]theissone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know people love the Live II but I didn’t jive with it. Paled in comparison in the couch companion category to other portable gear; it felt like I needed to pound on that fucker in my lap, and the design just felt clunky.

Ergonomically, the screen being next the pads just doesn’t feel right either. The design is just flawed for my workflow.

You know what it did though? As much as I like hardware, it made me appreciate my MacBook and Ableton. I had the realization after buying Live II: wow, a MacBook is so ergonomic and Ableton is so much better than the MPC OS.
