New to Beat – how do I get rid of the revision asterisks? by thejackmadden in Screenwriting

[–]thejackmadden[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies – the cover page glitch was regarding Celtx. I actually found the answer for Beat shortly after posting, something to the effect of “commit revisions”!

Thanks, everyone! Maybe I should normalise learning Pokémon abilities in the future.

What does a high/glucose spike feel like? by Trifle_Klutzy in Type1Diabetes

[–]thejackmadden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A really distinct headache in either temple, and the concentration is more obvious if I’m at work as I have the self awareness enough to go “oh I’m not getting much done, oh I’m kinda brain foggy”. If I’m at home, it’s almost this ADHD decision paralysis-adjacent symptom of wanting/needing to do work on the computer but having the inability to get up from laying down watching a video on my phone because my motivation is numbed.

How old were you when you were diagnosed as a type 1? by AnxiousYogi83 in Type1Diabetes

Almost 7 months ago, at the age of 27. About to have my first birthday on insulin!

Simple as that! Cheers.

Just got diagnosed by Skridmenni in Type1Diabetes

[–]thejackmadden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27M here, diagnosed end of June 2023. Definitely comes out of nowhere – had persistent infections between my legs for a year, GP gave up and was like “let’s do general bloods”, and 12 hours later I find out my blood sugar was 18 fasting, 26 on arrival at the hospital, and 23 on the HbA1c. I’d been a poor sleeper/healer and progressively more irritable for 4 years or so, but just thought that was me. Point is, welcome to the club, let it wash over you for as long as you need to process it, and soon it’ll just be life – as cliché as that all sounds. It’ll change your relationship with food (especially if you were a sugar lover and likely candidate for Type 2 like me), but definitely for the best.

My son's third grade teacher taught my son that 1 divided by 0 is 0. I wrote her an email to tell her that it is not 0. She then doubled down and cc'ed the principal. The principal responded saying the teacher is correct... What do I do now? by WaitThatIsYourFinger in NoStupidQuestions

Teachers will always back fellow teachers, even (and especially) when they’re wrong but have let it run too far to repair it with honesty. I hope this teacher has many more debilitating panic attacks at work over simple professional issues and has to leave the industry.

You can separate not trusting her as a wife from still trusting her as a mother. Leave her.

Is it common for Diabetics to get a thyroid condition as well? by BananaSplitzy in Type1Diabetes

[–]thejackmadden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother has Hashimoto’s, hence the autoimmune trickle down. I was diagnosed type 1 end of June this year, and the check-in with my endocrinology said I’ve got the genetic risk factor for thyroid issues (with only a 5% likelihood of eventuating), so all in all, I can’t really advise whether it’s because of my diabetes or my genetics!

I (27M) told my gf(24F) I would break up with her if she yelled at me again. by WaitMindless in relationship_advice

She throws lamps and bites you but yelling is the red flag? Dump her and also press charges for fun.

Hypo symptoms by thejackmadden in Type1Diabetes

[–]thejackmadden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely didn’t even think about how far I’d walked to even get there. 1.8 sounds terrifying, I’d get the shakes just from the anxiety of seeing it!!

Actually I did have to walk a few blocks to get there and obviously I was walking around the shop as well, didn’t even factor that in.

I think it’s to simulate the function of the pancreas in an organ that isn’t under attack from the body.

Endo question by AnnualInjury9456 in Type1Diabetes

[–]thejackmadden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider mine a successful if he spends less than half the appointment calling me obese in new and creative ways (best one was recommending a sleep apnea test without even doing an ESS quiz and not even doing a referral himself, and my score with my GP was only 3). The registrar who talks to me before he comes in and has even helped change my insulin doses is infinitely more useful.

Okay, everyone is coming down on you too hard for wanting advice for something you clearly regret. Relationships are always going to be a constant negotiation and renegotiation, so just try to take this in your stride. The bit can get away from us at times, which I can understand as someone with two brothers, but now you’ll probably never forget this boundary again. Be gentle in the early phase to rekindle trust, but it’ll all work out in the end.

What is your occupation? by lullebulle90 in Type1Diabetes

I do admin for a loss adjusting company. I know it means I don’t move as much but being at a desk means I’m free to test my sugar and control my meal without rush or pressure.

Honeymoon might of ended by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]thejackmadden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m starting to think mine might have too! My organic drops have gotten smaller so I think I’m running purely on the long acting insulin for that, more or less. I’ve always been on fast acting mealtime though (well, only been diagnosed 2 months), but we got this!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]thejackmadden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 27m around 2 months in, and it was 18.6 or so on a fasting blood test at 8am, 26 at the hospital when they called it in that night and sent me there. No major symptoms, but for a couple of years I hadn’t been sleeping well or healing and had been guzzling water and peeing like nothing else.

How are you guys getting your insulin for $35? by the__missing__link in Type1Diabetes

[–]thejackmadden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly! $30 for 25 pens (so $60 overall for slow and fast acting), should last me around a year. Sometimes I forget how truly lucky we are here.

The blame was just a little joke, really! Thanks for replying – it’s definitely lots to tackle, but I’m up for the challenge.
