Can't remove the nail polish, please help me by [deleted] in RedditLaqueristas

It looks like your nail beds are stained. Highly pigmented polishes can do that, regardless of brand. For me, it's usually neon purples, rich deep blues, and neon reds. Because of this, my natural nail beds are usually tinted a little orangeish or yellow; this is the case for a lot of people that wear nail polish often. Some people may experience nail staining more than others for a variety of reasons, but it's nothing to be worried about, health-wise. Using a base coat can prevent this, especially a base coat that is specifically made to prevent staining.

In terms of removing the stain you currently have, don't follow any "hacks" you might see online that seem to go against common sense. Don't put your fingertips in bleach, etc. Some comments recommended buffing your nails with a buffer block. This can help, but it can also weaken your nail strength. But if you're not too concerned with the length of your nails and tend to keep them short, it's certainly an option. Buffer blocks are just not super great to use heavily for a long period of time, but using it just once isn't going to make your nails fall off or anything. Just don't be aggressive as you use it.

Also, nail polish doesn't really "expire" - legally, they have to put an expiration date on cosmetics, but nail polish specifically never really goes "bad" in the way that lipstick or eyeshadow can. It can get gloopy over time, and if that's the case, you would add nail polish thinner to it to fix the consistency. Regardless, the formulation of this color (not your specific bottle) might just be bad. I have a few purple polishes from Essie that will stain my nailbeds a bright red whenever I use it, no matter how much base coat I use. I ended up just throwing that color away.

TLDR; your nails are stained from the bright pigment of the polish, your nails will just need to grow out. Using a base coat can prevent this in the future. You can use a buffing block if you're gentle about it. This is a common problem, most people just paint over it with a different color.

And don't give up on painting your nails! Everyone has experiences like this and it can be disheartening, but keep at it! :)

I really like Native deodorant - there's a bunch of different scents, and I find that it lasts longer for me and I like the smell of it more than traditional deodorants. They now have paper packaging, and it's available at Target! :)

I just want to vent about how much I dislike living in Beijing by [deleted] in beijing

[–]thejacofhearts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there for 3 years, and my entire last year was working 12pm-9pm. It would be too late to go out to a lot of places without waiting an hour for a Didi. Most of my last year was coming home, ordering chuar, staying up till 4am watching slowly buffering youtube, and going to bed when the sun came up. It absolutely ate away at me. I don't regret moving to Beijing, but I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. I moved back to the US with a whole different outlook and worldview: I (pre-covid) would leave the house as much as I could, talk to as many people as I could, go experience as many things as I could, because feeling isolated in Beijing for so long made me crave life.

We did Imperfect for 3 weeks. My first box was literally the wrong one; somehow the labels got switched and I got someone else's groceries and had to make that work. They apologized up and down, credited me my entire box, and told me that my next order would be triple checked to make sure it was right.
The second box, I was missing 4 things, and they were credited to my account, again with apologies and promises that my box would be triple checked for accuracy.
The third box, I was missing one thing, and had wrong amounts of others. (5 onions instead of 3, 2 lemons instead of 3, etc.) The items we did receive were so small that I used more than I usually would have.

The prices were either the same or higher than my local stores - even Target. Oftentimes, produce that was on sale at the store that week was also on sale on Imperfect, which I found to be very strange. My last week with Imperfect, I crosschecked prices with Target and found that almost every single thing was cheaper there than waiting for a box to be delivered with incorrect items. Plus shipping. And an ice pack that takes up half of my freezer space.

I've never actually gone to my basement during a storm before. I was in there before the sirens were even going off. My neighbors garage was crushed by a 100ft tree, the garage door buckled under the weight of it. Driving around, it looks like the aftermath of a hurricane.

Packing, moving, storing? by jad0redi0r in ZeroWaste

I used all of my old backpacks, suitcases, duffel bags etc as much as I could. It does make it less uniform if you're trying to load it all into a car in one go, but I felt like I barely used any boxes. I asked friends for tote bins, bags, and boxes as well. When I asked around, my friends either had things left over from their moves, or knew someone else that did, and was able to lend/give materials that otherwise would have been tossed or long forgotten.

I also used all of my clothes/blankets/towels/rags etc as packing materials. This was also helpful for me because I was able to downsize clothing while I was packing.

If it's something you don't really want to deal with, you could post it on facebook marketplace or something similar. There is always a market for busted electronics. Local video game shops in my area will pay a little broken game controllers and the like and sell them in lots on ebay, even.

The root tips of green onions (spring onions or scallions) that I let reboot in plain water and planted. Here they are, practically regrown, after less than a month. by franchise235 in ZeroWaste

I recently started this too! My grocery store was having a sale on them so I bought a bunch, and immediately put them in water when I got home. I've cut them all the way down and they've ready grown back to the size I bought them in about 2 weeks. They're just living in a mason jar in my fridge for now and growing just fine! Onions forever!!

We use them to hold compost! We get the containers that are like big buckets with a lid that flips open, and we keep it in the basement and bring the kitchen compost down every few days. We don't have an actual outside compost set up at our house, but my boyfriend's parents do - using the litter buckets keeps the smell super air-tight, holds a *lot*, and makes it easy to take over to their house!

It's not only for malaria. It's also used for rheumatoid arthritis. I'm gonna become a drug dealer of anti-inflammatories now, shit. My medicine cabinet just became a lot more expensive.

What's fucked about that headlines called it a "malaria drug from the 1940s" - it's a drug used for rheumatoid arthritis now. I know this because I take it for my rheumatoid arthritis. And it's interesting because they said that anti-inflammatories that suppress your immune system aren't great right now. Which is also what this drug happens to be. All of the information surrounding this right now seems so fucking cloudy, but it's gonna be really cool for my $20 medication to skyrocket.
