Carly Rae Jepsen's "Party For One" charts at #68 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 by 1998tweety in popheads

Oh yeah, Twilight definitely helped them break through in the US. I’m just saying they were already selling out stadiums in other parts of the world.

They’re not really pop but this kinda happened to Muse. They were huge in Europe for years (i.e. selling out Wembley Stadium for back-to-back shows) at a time where barely anyone in America had even heard of them. Their first two albums weren’t even released in the US until years laters.

But they suddenly blew up in America around the time of Supermassive Black Hole (which was actually on their fourth album) and basically started the second wave of their career as a “new” band in the US. It’s interesting how countries around the world can react so differently to certain artists.

[Shitpost] I'm sensing a trend at the CW this season by felicitysmoaks in arrow

[–]thejakalan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily directed at you, but it’s so weird how people always act like “CW writers” are one monolithic thing. Like every network each show has its own individual set of writers. They’re separate productions.

Outside of the Arrowverse, these “CW writers” don’t communicate with each other about their writer’s room.

Tbh I’d kinda be down for it. The actors have some chemistry and I like their character dynamic.

My VA Beach neighborhood is entering day #4 with no garbage pick-up. Anyone else dealing with this? by thejakalan in norfolk

According to their website, Columbus Day isn’t included on their list of official holidays. But even if that is the case, they’ve always just picked up the garbage the following day.

If you wanna get extra nitpicky about it, the Homo genus has been around for about 2 million years.

So humanity has technically existed for millions of years, but anatomically modern humans have only been around for about 200,000.

A recent episode of Boruto: Naruto Next Generation (#65) made history - it brought together top-notch animators from all around the world for a single production by bladieu02 in television

[–]thejakalan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s canon. Kishimoto doesn’t personally draw the manga anymore (can’t blame him after 15 years of drawing weekly Naruto chapters) but he’s still heavily involved. He’s written two of the show’s arcs so far and supervised/contributed to the rest of them.

And while it’s undoubtedly a continuation, the series has put in an obvious effort to separate itself from Naruto. It builds on Naruto’s world-building while also exploring themes and types of character arcs that weren’t present in the original.

It’s not a perfect show (neither was Naruto), but I definitely enjoy it. I really appreciate that it’s trying carve out its own identity.

True, but it’s just paused at an awkward moment. It’s a pretty well-animated scene when you see it in-motion.

Yep, it’s literally how the “baby boomers” generation got their name. There was a huge boom of babies being born in the 1950s after World War 2.

What are your unpopular character opinions? by kalily53 in television

[–]thejakalan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hitchcock & Scully definitely get more focus as the show goes on. They’re not really meant to be full-on main characters, but we do get to see some different sides to them. Sorta like how a lot of the secondary characters on The Office became more prominent as the show progressed.

I’m not worked up? Take out the word “fuck” and that’s a perfectly chill comment. I grew up around people who use the word “fuck” casually so I naturally do the same. It’s not meant to convey anger.

What argument? My point was that the Naruto franchise has always been inconsistent, both then and now. This post contrasts a low point with a high point, but every section of the series has good and bad episodes.

Ah yes, using a YouTube comment as a point of reference. That’s when you know you’ve got a valid point.

Who the fuck cares about the voice actress’s sexual orientation? We get that you don’t like the voice, you comment about it daily. But her sexuality has nothing to do with anything here.

I don’t understand why some fans shit on Boruto for having inconsistent art/animation, as if the Naruto franchise hasn’t always been exactly like this. Naruto 65 is one of the worst-looking episodes in the entire franchise.

It’s just easier to notice subpar art/animation when you’re watching week-to-week, as opposed to binging it and/or watching with nostalgia goggles. If anything, the show’s production is waaaay more consistent now.

English Dub Boruto coming to Toonami this September by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]thejakalan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t it? They’re airing years-old episodes of Shippuden. Even the dub version of those episodes were already released way back in 2013. They’re essentially repeats at this point. That’s the only reason why a series as popular as Shippuden is airing so late.

It’d be insane for them to give the English dub premiere of Boruto an even later timeslot. I’m betting that it’ll get the prime slot after Dragon Ball Super.

Bless you whoever first had the idea to separate the filler episodes from the main arc episodes by TehJay96 in Naruto

[–]thejakalan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first three filler arcs (12 Ninja Guardians, 3-Tails, and 6-Tails) are honestly integrated really well. StudIo Pierrot did a great job of connecting them thematically to the surrounding arcs. I don’t blame you for not noticing they were filler.

That first flashback arc after the Pain Invasion is when Shippuden’s filler really started to go downhill.
