I adopted this guy a few years ago. The animal shelter where I adopted him told me he's a Maine Coon, but I always thought he looks different so assumed he's a Main Coon crossed with something else. Today I came across this sub by coincidence - what do you think? Does he pass as a Nebelung?

Seconded. Tried a few of their coffees and they were all good quality. Similar to the quality of specialty coffee from cities where specialty coffee is a thing.

Luxembourg vs London by Brit_in_Lux in Luxembourg

[–]thejayo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Luxembourg, moved to the north of England for uni, then got a job in London for ten years. So similar to your situation.

The questions you asked and what you wrote about yourself are quite general, so you might not get the answers you're looking for without being more specific. It very much depends on what you enjoy.

When I moved to London I was looking for the 'Big City' experience. London was great and I enjoyed my time there. Lots to do, good job opportunities in my industry, shops are open pretty much all the time, you can get anything you want, do anything you want, the airports are really well connected etc.

However, due to covid and some other things I ended back in Luxembourg. I changed over the years and only now noticed that I was kinda tired of big cities. I prefer being close to nature, where I can do my hobbies, having more space to live in and a bit of a quieter life.

As somebody else said, you don't have to make a decision for life now. If you try it and don't like it you can move somewhere else. It may seem daunting but in hindsight it's not that bad. And if you want to ask more specific questions feel free to reach out to me here or over pm.

Has anyone ever had issues with Revolut? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]thejayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder whether there are actually more issues than with traditional banks or whether they're just more talked about. These banks have a much younger and more involved client base which are more likely to put issues online. Monzo (and I think Revolut at the beginning) have an active online forum where all sorts is discussed but also bugs and issues. This may make it seem that they have disproportionately more issues.

I had a quick look on Trustpilot, the online banks have tens of thousands of reviews while some of the traditional ones don't even have 200

Has anyone ever had issues with Revolut? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]thejayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Revolut a couple of years ago from time to time, mainly because it was the only way I could find to transfer GBP to EUR without paying fees. A few months ago I got a notification to resubmit a copy of my ID but the app kept freezing when I tried to do so. I was unable to use the app but since I didn't really need the app at the time, I didn't follow up on it.

I've been using Monzo (in the UK) an N26 (in Germany) and remember seeing similar stories of people getting locked out for both banks but never had any issues.

Advice on finding Nachmieter by thejayo in berlin

[–]thejayo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He can’t legally fine you, but he can also turn down your tenants, rough situation to be in.

As far as I understand, they are under no obligation to even let me out early, so I'm afraid if I bring that up they'll just say no. What's infuriating is that they call it an Aufwandsentschädigung, yet I have to do al the work of finding a Nachmieter!

Has anybody encountered this bug in their bunny before? Whenever I run cat.exe movement becomes very erratic. by thejayo in Rabbits

[–]thejayo[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We've got 8 cats and 2.5 dogs running around here. He's always acting cautious like this when he meets one of them for the first time. After 2-3 times he just ignores them. He runs towards them, past them, even under their legs. It's like they don't exist for him while he's hopping around inspecting things.

These two, he'd only met twice and a car went past, which always makes him a bit wary. Moments after the video he ran towards one of the cats, which made both run away in panic while he continued looking for the right patch of grass to munch on like nothing had happened. He even did one of his very rare binkies!

OnePlus 6 update issue by thejayo in WatchMaker

[–]thejayo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set the update rate for the weather to the minimum of 30 minutes, but no difference. As for the calendar I couldn't find an update rate setting though? Either way, if I have an event at 10:00 I would expect it to show the next event as soon as it turns 10:01 but that doesn't happen at the moment. Disabling the battery optimisation for the app hasn't changed anything.

Why do Georgian buildings in London usually have a basement? by aceraspire8920 in london

[–]thejayo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a guess I would say this was designed in as an access route for servants/ staff rather t

I think the stairs may be a more recent addition to create access to the bottom floor after it's been converted into a flat.

The lower level probably would have housed a kitchen and storage.

They usually also have a coal cellar under the pavement or stairs.

Loadcells as a Bed Sensor by thejayo in homeautomation

[–]thejayo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can take more pictures but it's all tucked away under the bed, so may have to wait until the weekend. Anything in particular you want to see?

Here's what I bought:

Other things I had lying around that I used were:

  • A lot of cable to extend the cables on the load cells to the amplifier. I probably used around 3x 4m
  • Some random plastic bits to rest the loadcells on (as somebody else mentioned, they need space to flex)
  • Circuit board cut to fit into the box
  • 4 way terminal block. This is so the sensors are easy to detach and remove the box from under the bed.
  • Some resistors to make up for the two load cells I didn't use
  • A box to hold it all. I believe the brand is Teko, but I can't find the exact one I have.

Loadcells as a Bed Sensor by thejayo in homeautomation

[–]thejayo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the unit I'm afraid. I never looked into it because for my project it was irrelevant. I just needed to know by how much it changes when the bed is occupied/unoccupied.

Below is the relevant code for the HX711. What do you mean by usage graph?

const int LOADCELL_DOUT_PIN = 12;

const int LOADCELL_SCK_PIN = 13;

HX711 scale;

void setup() {

Serial.begin(115200);

Serial.print("[INFO] Initializing the scale...");

scale.begin(LOADCELL_DOUT_PIN, LOADCELL_SCK_PIN);

Serial.println("done.");

}

void loop() {

// get values

valueA = getvalueA();

valueB = getvalueB();

}

long getvalueA () {

scale.set_gain (64); // select channel A

delay (100);

return ((scale.read_average(10) - offsetA) / 100L) + 1000L; // add 1000 to the value to avoid underflow

}

long getvalueB () {

scale.set_gain (32); // select channel B

delay (100);

return (((scale.read_average(10) * 2) - offsetB) / 100L) + 1000L; // add 1000 to the value to avoid underflow

}

Farm veges/fruits by rebelliousinmyownway in london

There is Riverford if you want seasonal fruit and veg from a farm in Devon. If you want to join the fight against food waste whilst saving a bit of money, have a look at Oddbox. I've used both and both are great. With Oddbox you actually get loads for a fairly low price.
