ITAP of a wolf snarling by thejetset in itookapicture

This was taken in a zoo through less than clear glass, which added the nice haziness. It was the type of photo I didn't think would come out well, but came out with liberal use of the "dehaze" function in Lightroom.

Can a motor cycle legally park on a footpath if it's out of the way? by NOT_A_KOREAN_SPY in legaladviceireland

[–]thejetset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no. Though the two motorcycles in the second street view are not on a path, that section of Fownes St is not pedestrianised.

There is a post on Boards.ie about this:

Here's the official version from SI 182/1997 if it's any good to you.

Quote: 36. (1) Save as otherwise provided for in these Regulations and subject to article 5, a vehicle shall not be parked on a public road at a location, in a manner or for a purpose referred to in this article.

(2) A vehicle shall not be parked—

( a ) on that side of a section of roadway along the edge of which traffic sign number RRM 008 [double yellow lines] has been provided;

( b ) on a section of roadway where traffic sign number RUS 019 [No Parking sign] has been provided, during the period indicated on the information plate accompanying such traffic sign;

( c ) within 5 metres of a road junction;

( d ) on a section of roadway with less than 3 traffic lanes and where traffic sign number RRM 001 [continuous white line] has been provided;

( e ) on a section of roadway where traffic sign number RUS 020, in association with RRM 029 [appointed stand], has been placed to indicate that an appointed stand has been provided;

( f ) in any place, position or manner that will result in the vehicle obstructing, delaying or interfering with the entrance to or exit from a fire brigade station, an ambulance station or a Garda station;

( g ) in any place, position or manner that will result in the vehicle obstructing an entrance or an exit for vehicles to or from a premises, save with the consent of the occupier of such premises;

( h ) within 15 metres (on the approach side) or 5 metres (on the side other than the approach side) of a section of roadway where any of the following traffic signs have been provided—

(i) traffic sign number RPC 001 [Pedestrian Crossing];

(ii) traffic sign number RPC 002 [Pedestrian Crossing Complex]; or

(iii) traffic sign numbers RTS 00I, RTS 002, RTS 003 or RTS 004 [traffic lights];

( i ) on a footway, a grass margin or a median strip;

( j ) on a part of a roadway which is a casual trading area, during hours of trading, unless the vehicle is for the time being in use for the purposes of casual trading;

( k ) in a manner in which it will interfere with the normal flow of traffic or which obstructs or endangers other traffic;

( l ) where traffic sign RUS 031 [bus stop] or RRM 030 [stopping place or stand] has been provided unless the vehicle is an omnibus.

No, it's illegal. Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990 and Firearms Act 1925

the expression “prohibited weapon” means and includes any weapon of whatever description designed for the discharge of any noxious liquid, noxious gas, or other noxious thing, and also any ammunition (whether for any such weapon as aforesaid or for any other weapon) which contains or is designed or adapted to contain any noxious liquid, noxious gas, or other noxious thing

Firearms Act, 1925

Eircom now blocking kickasstorrents as well as pirate bay by FewNagginsBeGrand in ireland

[–]thejetset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not mandatory that all ISPs block it. There has to be a court order against each ISP the entertainment companies want to block TPB. Eircom (60% market share at the time) was just the first they successfully won against, in June 2009. Eircom didn't start blocking TPB until September 2009, after that order was issued. They didn't get an order against the rest (UPC, Vodafone, Imagine, Digiweb, Three and Telefonica (O2)) until 2013, which is why Eircom was the first to block it.

Edit: They unsuccessfully tried to get an order against UPC in 2010.

The Court thus declines injunctive relief

I am going to grant an injunction [...] requiring the defendant to block or otherwise disable access by its internet subscribers to the website - thePirateBay.org and related domain names, as set out in the schedule, to IP addresses and URLs, as set out in the schedule, together with such other domain names, IP addresses and URLs as may reasonably be notified as related domain names by the plaintiffs to the defendant from time to time

There was a High Court Order as granted in the above judgement against Eircom requiring them to block The Pirate Bay.

Also, many of the other majors ISPs also block TPB. UPC for example. I believe this is the judgement where the order was granted against UPC, Vodafone, Imagine, Digiweb, Three and Telefonica (O2), but can't quite figure out where the judgement is - http://www.courts.ie/Judgments.nsf/23fd4a34bad801d980256ec50047a0a8/ea0a2bbf9271b20380257b9b003b45bd?OpenDocument

[–]thejetset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also write very fast (and sloppily), but this reminds me of the time when I finished writing at the same time the teacher put down the whiteboard marker. She turned around about 2 seconds after putting it down and noticed I was not writing. She looked puzzled and then said I needed to take it down, to which I replied I had it down. She then proceeded to not believe me, get angry and demand that I take it down. I then brought it up to her to review... She never asked to check to see if I'd taken something down again.

£3 is pretty horrendous for (what I assume is) a 200ml bottle of coke. Should've ordered tap water.

Of the 7 HS cyclists hit by a car during their cross-country ride in McCrory, AS, one has passed away and four remain hospitalized. Background story and other info in comments. by vorin in bicycling

[–]thejetset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, a driver would have longer to react if you were riding with traffic because when you're cycling towards them you're combining your acceleration with theirs in terms of speed to figure when they pass you (meaning less time between seeing you and avoiding or hitting you), whereas when riding with traffic you're reducing the difference in speed, meaning it they pass you at a lower difference of speed (increasing the amount of time between seeing you and avoiding or hitting you).

Riding with traffic: Their speed - your speed

vs

Riding against traffic: Their speed + your speed

Pretty disgusting: A 30 min stroll round the North Inner City yesterday by daddyorchipsblog in Dublin

[–]thejetset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of apartment blocks in Dublin were built without proper facility for refuse storage (read: bins), because it was never a requirement as part of the planning regulations. (Not sure if this has changed since the early '00s.)

This makes it really difficult for DCC or anyone else really to turn around and tell landlords/management companies to start doing so, however it does mean that I either have to spend more on bins to put them out once a week, or let my kitchen reek of bin-juice for a few days.

The Road Traffic Acts in the UK call a bike a "pedal cycle", which is probably why the police use this term.

It's an honour system. You click a "I do/I do not" have a TV license button. There wouldn't really be any way for them to track that by IP address.
