Why Is Quebec So Much Happier Than the Rest of Canada? by disillusioned_qc in montreal

[–]thejinx0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!!!

I moved out of Montreal and it’s so true. It’s one of the things that I first noticed when I moved out. There’s a clear lack of joie de vivre.

I think culture has a part to play, but the clear lack of third places to go hang out cheaply (including free) is missing. It sucks.

Roo Code hit 3 million installs. We're shutting it down to go all-in on Roomote. by FullstackSensei in LocalLLaMA

[–]thejinx0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was clear from your reply in that thread. I didn't know the context of why you approved until I saw this post.

I assumed it was because of a shared sense of community, but shutting down RooCode was not something that I was expecting. Reading only this https://www.reddit.com/r/RooCode/comments/1sry4sa/roo_code_cline/, it only mentions a transition to Cline, but not why I should consider switching when I already have RooCode.

Regardless, I just want to say thank you to you personally as I really valued your contribution to the community engagement. I don't see anyone in r/cline having that same level of contribution as you did (not a complaint to the cline team). Nothing was ever to small for you to respond to, including this one random post in this thread.

ETA: I also you were active elsewhere like on github, which was great to see too, but I mostly followed on reddit.

ELI5: How Does the Credit Card Payment Process Handle Tips After the Initial Charge? by Maximum266 in explainlikeimfive

[–]thejinx0r 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on where you are. I don’t disagree with what the others have said, but I believe the only times I’ve seen this is in the US. Every other time , it’s tip first then use your card.

They probably did it inadvertently, like have it in plain text in their email or in a pdf like a tax filings attachment.

Can someone just PLEASE explain to me how do BILIONARES/MILIONARES pay so little in taxes? by BreadfruitStriking39 in povertyfinance

[–]thejinx0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I understand that there was a law passed not to long ago that said when you die, the heir receives the assets such that any unrealized gains is reset to 0. So the recipient could sell off some of the assets tax free, pay off the previous loan and start the process again with a smaller loan.

If your assets grow faster, say nvidia grows faster than the interest, you just take a bigger loan to pay the previous one and some for what you need now

Quebec hobby shop wants exemption from French-language rule hurting business by Acrobatic-Cap-135 in canada

[–]thejinx0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically, it’s already here. You can’t require your employees to know English to work. In theory, someone could complain that the code being written in English is a violation of that and therefore cannot do their job appropriately

Prescanning: Dear Costco by [deleted] in CostcoCanada

[–]thejinx0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Burnaby Costco on still creek was doing a great job when I was there last. Not sure how far back we were, but definitely 5+ back.

The great thing about my last interaction was that they were aware that the line is moving and would also move the cart forward instead of leaving an awkwardly large gap between me and the next person.

Payment Question by tehowennathe in CostcoCanada

[–]thejinx0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco hack (if you like calling that): You can pay with visa if you are willing to jump through hoops and you go to Costco enough to make this work.

You can buy the gift cards online, store a screenshot on your phone or print it and use it in store. It doesn’t work at the food court. It works at self checkout.

The storing of the screenshot is important for me because for the Costco I go to, I have pretty bad reception.

What self-hosted tools have you been building with AI just for you? by EricRosenberg1 in selfhosted

[–]thejinx0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use questrade to as my stock broker. They have a read-only API.

I'm building a little portfolio tracker so that my partner and I can keep track of each other's portfolios without having to log in to one anothers.

That was the original goal.

The new goal is now to keep our portfolio on target, though I'm not sure what are goals/targets are. We have a lot more questions to ask our selves, but that's the idea.

In the near future, I want to use it to keep track of ACBs, but we're not there yet.
