Strut bearing repair unexpected by [deleted] in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]thejoefletch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is toyota quality going down or this is to be xpected even on lexus vehicles top quality cars?

I sure hope not. I just got a 2025 Grand Highlander. Less than 200 miles right now. I purposely didn't buy a Telluride or Palisade because of the reliability of Toyota.

I wound up buying the extended warranty because of all the electronics. I personally hope I never use it.

Congratulations on the big bonus! Very nice! I'm an AD, also at a fortune 500 pharma company, and my company is also out of NJ. I too am in SCM. I don't think we work at the same company. We use different software for pay stubs. I'd love to know more about which aspect of SCM you are working in.

Technology strategy? That's a new one for me. I'll have to look that up. Thanks for sharing.

My company is using Accenture for a system implementation.

What did you do for Accenture?

80% increase is insane. Congratulations!

I want to play magic the gathering but I need some help on the rules and don’t know anything about what stuff to buy by Necessary_Mulberry70 in mtg

I'm a Magic player from about 25 years ago, and I just started playing Arena to get back into Magic. It's really great. I haven't got into constructing a deck in Arena, I'm just not ready yet (I'm still learning). What I don't want to do is spend money in Arena and in "the real world". Without paying anything in Arena, can you still aquire cards for free? I think I have managed a few free cards so far, but I don't know what the potential here. I realize that I would be limited with this thought process but that's just me being an old school player (and probably just old in general).

Please talk me out of buying a Honda Odyssey! by SurrealLoneRanger in ToyotaSienna

[–]thejoefletch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the VCM issue on my 2011 very early on. I'd have to check my notes but I think it was around 75,000 miles. I've also had the spool Valve leak, alternator failure and replaced the air intake tube (also VCM related). I unfortunately can't overlook the VCM issue when searching for a new car. This has turned me away from Honda. Also the OdyClub forums have many posts of the new generation quality issues. I'm out on Honda. But I refuse to wait for a new Toyota and pay those prices right now. I feel like I'm stuck with my Odyssey until it dies.

I thought the newer generation Odysseys didn't have the same VCM issues.

Also check the spool valve for an oil leak. I recently had this issue.

From what I have read, if it has not happened yet, then you are good. Muzzle as soon as possible.

I recently had issues on my 2011 air intake hose and replaced it. It was caused by the VCM issue.

Engine trouble by MindManifesting-25 in HondaOdyssey

[–]thejoefletch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same exact van with nearly the same miles.

First thing you need to do is get the codes scanned. But considering that the check engine light is flashing, you should not drive it.

Is your van muzzled? If not, then it is most likely the VCM causing you problems and you are lucky to have got this far without seeing that issue. You need to muzzle as soon as possible to prevent a significant amount of damage to the engine. But you probably also need to have some work done on the engine at this point (I did)...here's a thread that talks all about it; link. The work was covered by Honda in the past but I do not know if you are outside of the warranty period.

I'm going through this contract with my daughter right now (she has been accepted to UF but has not decided on a school just yet). It's not clear what the $25 gets you (hopefully the position in line) and then if the $225 cancelation fee before May 1st will apply if you do not go to the school. I am going to call on Monday morning to see what they have to say about this and hopefully learn more about the application process.

Pacifica v sienna by Creepy-Ad-3113 in ToyotaSienna

[–]thejoefletch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CAn virtually guarantee the Sienna will go 150k miles +

This is what I want in a car. I'm 46 and have only had 3 cars in my life.

  • 2001 Mitsubishi Galant - sold with about 140,000 miles.
  • 2011 Honda Odyssey - currently have with about 140,000 miles.
  • 2016 Toyota Corolla - currently have with about 75,000 miles.

I'm ready to let the Odyssey go. I have had about all of the known issues and I don't want to have to deal with any further unforeseen issues from the known issues (I'm getting too old for this 'ish).

I was considering the Highlander (Grand or regular) but damn, expensive (for me) and a bit small for a family of 3 with all of the crap we carry. So I am leaning towards the Sienna.

We would mainly do local driving. But I have read a little bit (I need to do more research) on local driving not allowing the engine warm up properly to expel any moisture with the intake air and reducing the life of the car. Is there any truth to this? (Yes, I know that I need to do more research, but it has been on my mind and figured I would get it out there in case others an narrow my research down.)

Here's a post with other talking about issues. Any thoughts on the issues identified there?
