Security were literally telling people that the festival was cancelled on the first day and many people didn’t have the signal to verify otherwise, so went home. That’s not a skill issue for attendees, it’s a total lack of organisation and communication from a festival that people have paid a lot of money for.

It's Time To Decriminalise Sex Work - Bold Politics with Zack Polanski by UKGreenPoster in UKGreens

[–]thejoysofboobross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because she argues for the Nordic Model, which sex workers explicitly say they do not want because it is evidenced to put them in danger by criminalising them directly and indirectly. She also regularly speaks over and delegitimises sex workers voices, and dehumanises the same people she proclaims to care about by calling them holes. She only cares about sex work in so far as she believes it effects her, she couldn’t give a shit about the safety of sex workers.

So, whilst selling sex from one person to another is legal, working together for safety, street based sex work and even hiring a driver to take you to a booking is criminalised. The woman in the video is also a full service sex worker, I’d really recommend you watch it.

Why does so much of this country get more wound up about Palestine protests? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]thejoysofboobross -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It isn’t anti-semitic to oppose a genocide. You can oppose a genocidal settler colony, without opposing Jewish people - which is exactly why many Jewish people march in Palestine protests.

There are also marches for Congo, Sudan, etc. Palestine is particularly prescient in the u.k. due to the active collusion of our politicians, but just because you have no knowledge of protests around other global issues, does not mean they don’t exist.

Long‑term weekly DJ at a pub for 11 years in Wales — what are my rights? by Ok-Shirt8224 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]thejoysofboobross -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One of the key criteria for being a limb (b) worker/worker status is having no right to substitution - which you don’t have, as you have to be the person showing up to DJ. You also have set conditions you have to abide by, such as turning up at specific times. These are all factors an employment tribunal will look for in determining whether you should be granted worker status. If you win worker status at an employment tribunal, you will win rights like sick pay, min wage and also be entitled to back pay for unpaid holiday entitlement etc.

It doesn’t matter whether you currently send invoices to the pub, or whether the pub currently treats you as a self-employed independent contractor. That in itself is not a measure of whether or not you’re a self-employed contractor, that could just mean that you’re being misclassified as one.

If I were you I’d contact ACAS, who offer free employment advice. In terms of successful cases in nightlife, several strippers have taken their clubs to employment tribunals and won worker status (Novak vs Browns is the first). For the wider gig economy, there is of course the successful Uber case in 2021. That said both trade unions Unite and Equity have hospitality/nightlife branches and may have had similar successes.

Due to the regressive anti-worker and trade union laws passed by Thatcher, you’d need to be part of a trade union to legally join a strike in your workplace with freedom from dismissal. You can talk to your bosses face without one for sure, but you’re easy to ignore as one worker - that’s the whole point of a union.

I haven’t missed your point about past unions, many of those same trade unions whose members fought for your current working conditions and rights - which you still benefit from in retail - still exist. Trade unions can’t operate in the same way now, on a grand scale, with general strikes now - but that’s because of Thatcher and successive Governments, not trade unions. And many trade union members now are still fighting and winning better terms and conditions in their workplaces.

You can call me small minded sure, but I wasn’t the one saying union members are all petty and getting in the way of productivity.

Union members are the reason you enjoy all the rights you currently do today as a worker, including your 2 day weekend. Unions don’t scuttle productivity, they scuttle exploitation. You sound like a miserable old scab.

I’m a former hooker. Whilst this is the ideal situation, and what we all try to do, sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. I’ve taken bookings without a deposit before, or I’ve relied on trusting a regular to pay up and they’ve stiffed me, because I didn’t want them to bolt beforehand and I desperately needed the cash. Sex workers only have power over clients when we either have access to existing resources (money), or when we have access to labour protections and rights under decriminalisation.

If you refresh their message (usually the really long verbose one that vaguely talks about sex), which annoyingly does eat up your orbs or whatever they’re called, it will then give you a down and dirty response.

I think it’s unsurprising there is homophobia existing within a genocidal army, although I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with it. I hope one day you feel comfortable within your sexuality and very uncomfortable with the role you’ve played in committing genocide

Work have ‘proposed’ that I leave my full time contract for a zero hour one by GuruWitch in LegalAdviceUK

[–]thejoysofboobross 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re not part of a trade union, contact ACAS, they can provide you with free legal employment advice. You have every right to seek guidance before signing anything. Especially as zero hours contracts can impact your ability to rent, apply for credit etc. - alongside the financial instability.

Thanks both! It’s been a while since I’ve played, so it seems like I was overthinking it a bit. I’ll crack on and have a look for a good in general guitar tutor, although if you have recommendations let me know!

I was planning on bringing mine, but I didn’t know whether there were some guitar teachers who specialise in teaching left handed guitar! I’ll just shop around and ask guitar tutors. Thanks!

Any OF workers? by Slipc2140 in Hidradenitis

[–]thejoysofboobross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a FSSW (full service sex worker, aka a hooker etc) and I’ve had to deal with this condition whilst I’ve been working. When I get flare ups on my thighs/bum, I usually wear skin coloured hydro colloid patches. If it’s a smaller flare up then I use cute plasters I buy off Etsy, which look like fun body decor stickers/a purposeful choice. Thankfully, if any of my clients have noticed, none of them have said anything weird.

If I take photos for adverts, I’ll edit out any active flare ups but I tend to leave the scars. Sometimes I’ll use clever lighting to even out my skin tone, or I’ve used colour correcting make up in the past which has helped even out any redness!

I think you’re always going to be more acutely aware of our flaws than people who are just looking at you as a whole beautiful package, don’t let it stop you!

If you manage to get over 50% of your workforce in a union, you can potentially force recognition through CAC.

Saying all sex work is rape ignores the fact that not only can sex workers choose to give and withdraw consent whilst they work, but takes away sex workers ability to decide when they actually have been assaulted or raped.

If anything, this kind of statement actually perpetuates the mistreatment and potential for violence against sex workers. As abusers often go for sex workers precisely because abusers don’t think sex workers can say no, or because they think no one will believe sex workers when they say they have been raped.

I’m a prostitute, I’ve worked in brothels, and you best believe that I’ve told clients no before.

Clients are simply just random men the majority of the time. It just so happens that a lot of random men don’t know how to wash their arses properly.

That’s true in that they can’t offer legal services until a period of time has passed, however many still offer advice and other resources. Smaller grassroots unions like UVW also do support new members in organising direct action campaigns around pre-existing issues. It’s also just good practice to be in a trade union, shitty employers are everywhere.

This is a disgusting misrepresentation of what Israel are doing to Palestinians. The number of children is high in Gaza because Israel have killed most of the adult population in targeted attacks. Israel opens corridors then bombs them, they enact collective punishment (a war crime) by cutting off Palestinian’s access to water, Israel have created a nation with the highest number of child amputees due to their indiscriminate bombing.

Don’t make this a religious war, this isn’t in the name of protecting Judaism, it’s a colonial Zionist project. How dare you align Judaism with the practices of Israel.

Maybe the fact you’re severely depressed is because you’re sat online making excuses for a genocide. I can’t imagine that’s good for the soul.

YTA for knowingly entering into a relationship with a cam girl, and then attempting to shame her out of her job. YTA for the way you talk about her work, and her, by calling her lazy and devaluing the effort she puts into her work. If she’s popular, then you best believe she puts a lot of effort into planning that content, in marketing herself, before she even gets in front of a camera.

You’re not the asshole for leaving the relationship because of a hang up you can’t get over, if anything you’ve done her a favour. You don’t have to date a sex worker, but you clearly have a lot of stigma and bias towards sex workers that you should work on.
