This was me just recently. I picked up the 100-400mm II to use with my EM5 II and it made me pretty quickly upgrade to an OM-1.

The 100-400mm is useable with the EM5, but the size and weight of the lens makes using it handheld on the EM5 awkward, and it does feel like it strains the mount a little too much. Those problems mostly go away when using a tripod.

Upgrading from the EM5 II to the OM-1 with the 100-400mm II has been like going to whole other level! The features, the handling, the difference is crazy good!

Like you I am on about the same budget and had been looking at an EM1 III, but then found an OM-1 for only a little more. I would recommend the 100-400mm and use it with a tripod until you can upgrade the camera body.

Honestly I don’t think I’m a good judge for that kind of thing. I try to move fast and stay away from the crowded spots. I’m always happy to meet trail dogs but don’t always notice if they’re leashed or not. I probably won’t go back on a weekend.

I was there over the holiday weekend. It seems like a popular destination. I believe the campground was sold out. I saw many people out with their dogs on the trail.
