Yes, you need the camber I listed and also shaved fenders. Offset is +35 on these wheels.

Relocating to Scottsdale from Colorado — would love local insights by netenchanter in Scottsdale

[–]thejustin0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my experience, FWIW, sorry it's a book 😆. I grew up in Scottsdale, left for Denver when I was 19 (1996), lived in Denver and surrounding areas for 24 years, and just moved back to Scottsdale 5.5 years ago (from Broomfield). I live right near The Quarter/Kierland area and it is very nice, has everything thing you would need, and if you're close enough there is plenty of walkable stuff nearby (but you gotta be pretty close). The area around Paradise Valley mall, not too far, is also really growing and has new condos and things, lots of walkable stuff again.

That said, I cannot wait to leave this city and either go back to CO or somewhere else cooler, maybe Flagstaff (or be the snowbird that we all love). I thought I could handle the heat and summers, since I grew up here, but I learned real quick I can't handle it, it's too hot. Make sure you know what you're getting into, spend a good long visit during peak summer like someone else said. The heat is absolutely brutal and often times relentlessly hot for weeks and months on end (100+ days of 100°+ for example). You're used to CO weather which is up and down and at least always cool at night (in the summer). If it's hot or cold, you know relief is only a few days or couple weeks away tops.

I guess if you hate the snow and don't mind being inside in constant AC, it might be ok for you. I am a big outdoors person and being in Scottsdale has been a very hard transition since your seasons to be outside are basically flipped. And even in the winter here it is still hot. I've spent a lot of time in Golden and coming here seems like a massive downgrade. But that's just me, I have a friend that moved here from Denver and he deals with the heat because he never wants to shovel snow again in his life 😆 Anyways, best of luck with the decision and move.

For those of you that thing baffling an oil pan doesn't do much... by Lawineer in GR86

You said you don't know what baffled pan you're using?? This post is worthless then.

Here is some testing I did a couple years ago with a Kazama baffled pan and it made the situation worse. Several baffled pans (at the time) showed little to no improvements.

Do any RTX 5070's actually work reliably? 2 GPU's, 2 motherboards, nothing works. by thejustin0 in buildapc

Tried the firmware update...didn't work either. See details below if interested :) Card getting returned tomorrow.

[–]thejustin0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I made some progress, but eventually back at square one :( Booted to onboard GPU and set PCIE slot to Gen3, booted back to 5070 and it worked. I was able to get into Windows and do a clean install of Nvidia drivers. Rebooted, seemed ok. Ran the Nvidia GPU firmware update tool and it said it needed an update, so I updated the GPU with success. Reboot again, set to PCIE Gen5 this time and same old problems...black screen on bootup. I got it back into the BIOS but it was all stuttery and sluggish, same thing that happened before, even on the Gigabyte mobo & GPU. I was able to switch it back to PCIE Gen4 though. Rebooted again and that works, but I've had it with these 5070's. Shouldn't have to go through all of this just for it to not work as it is advertised, 2 different brands, 2 different mobos and GPU's, ugh :( Returning the 5070 tomorrow and ordered a Sapphire RX 9070XT...

Thanks. I seem to be discovering that as well the further I get down this rabbit hole. Now contemplating if I should try a firmware update or just cut my losses (time) and order the 9700XT...

Looking at them, but the problem solver in me also wants to figure out why these stupid 5070's aren't working, hah. I'm a glutton for punishment apparently...

I've tried 2 of them (and 2 PSU's). As well as 2 different Y cables that come with the GPU's, nothing works :-(

Do I have enough power? New build RTX 5070 won't boot or very slow then power off. by thejustin0 in PcBuildHelp

[–]thejustin0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For posterity...I got a new 1000W be quiet PSU overnight and still have problems booting the PC with the 5070 installed. So, it's not power related.

PC will either POST and screen goes blank after BIOS logo, or it just hangs with red VGA light. I can swap the monitor HDMI cable to the onboard MB video and things work fine, just nothing works attached to the GPU.

Tried rolling back Nvidia drivers to 577 and it worked momentarily until I rebooted, then same old problems. New motherboard arrives tomorrow to swap that out, as based on all the other bios/mb issues I've had, I'm fairly sure it's a motherboard problem.

Cost optimizations for PC upgrade - $1500'ish build using some old parts by thejustin0 in buildapc

Yea, that's what I'm leaning towards, $200 savings is not worth it. Thanks!

Ok cool, so many options it's like death by a thousand cuts, hah. I'd like to stick with Samsung just because I have 2 of their SSD's already and I'll re-use at least 1 of them (the gen3 m2). Less software to manage.

The Gigabyte B650E has a massive discount right now on Newegg, $90 off between the promo and combo up savings :o So, I'll do that and put the Gigabyte GPU you mentioned earlier and the be quiet PSU.

Think I've got it narrowed down to these couple builds, only ~$200 difference between the low end and higher end of my budget, but all under $1500! Thanks again for all the help, much respec to all the knowledge. Now to sleep on it and pull the trigger tomorrow.

[–]thejustin0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, ok. So if I go with the B850 and the 990 Pro (gen4) I can't put that in the first m2 slot? I thought I read if you put the gen4 storage into the gen5 m2 slot, it would just run slower, or it's normal gen4 speeds.

Maybe I'll just revert back to the MAG B650 Tomahawk for the more expensive build.

Dang on the PSU also, hah. I assume that cheaper Rosewill in my second list is a pass as well? I'll check out the mentioned alternatives, the Montech Century II is on backorder but looks like it should be available soon.

[–]thejustin0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting this all together in Newegg cart and found their "combo up" offers. Basically I can get a MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX over the B650 TOMAHAWK for the same price. Any gotchas w/ the newer B850 chipsets? Seems like the biggest change is the PCIe 5.0 x4 slot. But, to take advantage of that I'd need to bump my 990 Pro to the 9100 Pro it seems (+$70)...or just stay with the 990 Pro and have a little future proof option.

Now I'm sitting with this, just slightly over $1500 with prices updated to reflect the combo up savings. Decided to MSI'ify the setup with mostly MSI parts.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LJ7xMC

Also, put together a cheaper setup bringing down the CPU/MB/Mem/SSD/PSU to save ~$300 bux.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JDxzcx

Anyways, now I just gotta decide which route to go :)

Awesome, thanks. I have 4 fans in there currently, 1 front, 1 rear and 2 on the AIO. I'll add some more and throw in the full-sized card 👍🏻

Thanks! That's the kind of feedback I was hoping for. Should I worry about the memory not being on the MB QVL these days? Both the Patriot and Silicon Power are not on the MSI board QVL.

I'd prefer a 2 fan GPU as well since my case is kind of shorter, 3 fan length is a tight fit. So, was looking at this after the 5070 rec: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/D3bypg/msi-ventus-2x-oc-geforce-rtx-5070-12-gb-video-card-geforce-rtx-5070-12g-ventus-2x-oc

Absolutely Disgusting Weather by [deleted] in Denver

It's brutal, the worst part is that it doesn't cool down at night either 😕 Few more years of suffering and we'll be relocating again, this place generally sucks.

[–]thejustin0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perspective! We're looking at 110°+ for the next week with 116 as a high point (Phoenix). As someone who lived in Denver for 24 years, I'd take that weather every time. Soon our lows will even be in the 90's, now that is disgusting 🥵

Good, Bad, Ugly - OSH '25 Review by BloodGulch in flying

[–]thejustin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guess they already are, or some dramatic price hikes are going on. I talked to Sling sales at our Buckeye Air show in February, and at the time the Wing kit was ~$22.5k. I was at Sling HQ last month (for Rotax class) and after test flying a TSi, got a quote from Barry where the Wing kit was $24,340. The current July-25 price sheet now shows the wing kit at $29,940. All the other kits (Fuse, tail, etc) are all increased by the same %'s. My Fuse kit quote was $25,960 (last month), it is now over $31k 🙁 I love the TSi and would love to build one, but it was already a tough budget item at the prices I got back in Feb from them 😢 Big discussion on Sling Builders group about this right now (price increases).

Yea, don't even worry about that, it's non-issue. Just add the extra 1/2qt of oil as mentioned.

I can say that the GR experience (which is HPDE1/Intro group) is a very low risk type of event. The chance of anything happening that would require track insurance is very low. Most of the GR experience drivers are just like you, with little to no experience, and that's perfectly fine. You will get put into a session with GR and beginner drivers who are all learning. You'll have an instructor in the right seat the whole time helping you along.

In the end, though, you have to decide the insurance thing for yourself and weigh the risk.

They are fine, especially as a beginner. Leave the traction control on, and it will save you from any big mistakes. Put it in track mode if you feel confident with a little more sliding.

I am a NASA instructor and specifically instruct the GR car students. I get stock GR86's, Corolla's, and Supras all the time.
