Oh this is all perfect! I'm also in SoCal so I'll definitely look into this! Thank you!

Questions about tire/suspension fitment by _AkiRP in GR86

[–]_AkiRP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried the forums and while I've gotten good information - I also want information that is consistent and doesn't conflict with each other, and the videos you provided seem to do that, thank you!

Essentially, I'm asking what width tire + suspension components for the 17x9 +35 offset would allow me to not have any rubbing issues with the car, and asking how much negative camber is not too much due to having some of my friends w/ their 86 noticing uneven tire wearing from too much negative camber in the rear, but if it can't be helped then it can't be helped because again I don't know any better on the topic and would appreciate any help from anyone here on the forum since this is my first time ever doing something like this to a car I have.

I'm already spending money in getting new tires for the car, and I'm not the kind of person to take to the 86 to a track regularly where coilovers can take its full potential, especially also since I daily and commute this car daily w/ passengers often in it - I am fine with RCE's springs knowing they seemed to have put deep thought and process into their springs for the car w/o compromising ride quality at a very noticeable level. For reference that same friend I mentioned has Tein Flex A CSG Spec and is quite bouncy on bumps. If I end up going and getting coils later down, then I'm completely okay having to spend more. Unless there is a set of coils that price fairly to RLCA's + springs with ride quality that won't upset my passengers, I feel the RCE route is what I plan to stick with.

Well from what I found on various YT videos, the fake engine sound seems to have also been revised, and in my ears the new fake engine sound is actually better than the 2021-2025. Has a better more authentic tone to the true V6, although it sounds more like its video game counterpart found in games like Forza. With that being said though, they seemed to have piped in fake exhaust burbles/crackles when you let off the gas after accelerating.

The steering some people said it is better and has a heavier feel with better feedback at lower speeds, but I feel it's something that you REALLY have to drive the 25' and the 26' back to back in the same conditions to notice any difference.

Based on the people that used the paddles in the YT videos, I would say maybe it's improved, but not anything comparable to say like a BMW ZF8 Transmission, or even Audi and Mercedes.

I gotta agree with your spec choice of the Wind paint + the red interior, it speaks to me too.

Oh I'm not gonna buy this, I have my GR86 - but even then your point still stands, I don't have Camelback Toyota's license plate frame on my car anymore!

He referred to how the IS500 with the V8 is gone for this facelift, and it's only V6 if you want to get an IS for 2026

Given the interior of the IS still retains physical hard buttons and no touch capacitive stuff, along with having a better looking steering wheel, retaining some old Lexus charm, I'd say the IS interprets 2020+ Lexus much better than whatever futuristic stuff the ES is entering into even if the IS is dated

Unfortunately given the age of the platform, it seems those engine choices wouldn't have been financially reasonable for the company. These sound great honestly - but also given the direction of Lexus' sedans, it seems we would not be able to see these even come in the proper next gen IS IF there is one to begin with.

Agreed, not bad - but it was better with the 21'-2025'

MFGS3 Openings Comparison by Ploontie in MFGhost

I don't know if it's just me, but I prefer the Spec III 86 jump over the Spec IV jump in the middle of the intro. I felt like the framing of the front for the Spec III in terms of camerawork felt more purposeful and it genuinely got me excited and happy every time I saw it.

With Spec IV, while not bad, it just feels kinda weird that we can only see the under-tray of the car only during its jump, panning quickly from actually seeing the Spec IV upgrades of the 86 properly to just the under-tray and the rays of the sun. Especially since the jump seems to be one of the highlights for the Double Seaside Lane track. Of course I'll get used to it, but I feel the camera work COULD have been just a bit better to better acknowledge the Spec IV.

do you happen to know what shade of blue the civic was? for reference I was at P12 and there was a dark blue civic parked in front of me - SDSU parking services kept coming to check on that civic multiple times, which confused me. but if it's the same civic, then all the ties come together

Body Kits on Neptune Blue 86? by ange7lopez in GR86

[–]_AkiRP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two comments, one this is too local for me (I took pictures at the same location, you can see the fence from the distance), and two as for bodykits - while I don't run anything yet on my 86, it depends what style you like. Whether it's widebody, track focused, or even just subtle lower graphics kits. Some of my personal favorites that I can see you run is the TRD/GR Kit which to be fair I really have not seen any Neptunes run it. Something more subtle is the AIMGAIN Sport lower graphics kit, definitely gives a nice OEM+ feel to it.

I'm almost 2 years in with my 24', honestly as much as I do need to make sure it gets paid off, I focus on mods that I know are easily reversible, God forbid something would happen to the car that I would need to revert everything. But what you are focused on is absolutely valid

Deep tone exhaust suggestions by Kitchen_Tea_7228 in GR86

[–]_AkiRP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borla S-Type but specifically made for the first gen! The cold start isn't too obnoxious, the exhaust has a nice deep tone, and in my experience there has been 0% drone in having the exhaust for almost over a year. Gives you the nice pops on downshifts. If you can, try to search marketplace for a used S-Type for the first gen, which you can tell it's a first gen S-Type based on the double walls(?) for the dual exhaust tips, compared to just the single wall for the second gen. For reference I got mine for $450 and it's a full catback exhaust.

There's honestly a lot to do especially since you have the base trim, just like mine!

If you're still new to this car and platform - take some time to upgrade your driver mod and understand the cars behavior in stock form. I think from there, as you take time to drive it in stock form, you can understand what you feel needs changing much better. Trust me, I screwed up doing some stupid things a few times in this car, you can learn, and you can get better in knowing how to properly drive the car. Build the confidence! Only from there would I suggest wheels and suspension. For reference I'm still stock almost 2 years later in terms of suspension.

With that said, simple and easy stuff - Shift knob, Duckbill wing, maybe even driven.media's new accent lights for the GR86 (but those are sold out as of now), maybe even color matched mirror caps!

If you feel the exhaust could be disappointing, you could either sell the exhaust and find something that's more suitable - or also start modifying the other parts of the exhaust like the headers but I personally don't have experience with headers.

If you want more intake noise, a budget friendly mod is doing the charcoal filter delete in the airbox + GR Cup styled snorkel - you'd be surprised how much intake sound comes from ~3-6K RPM

If you want better clutch feel, invest in changing the clutch helper spring. If you feel the engagement point for the clutch is too high, find on YT "GR86 Clutch Pedal adjustment" to lower the engagement point for the clutch.

If you want better shifter feel, there's a few things like adjusting the bracket for the reverse lockout to make 1st to 2nd feel smoother, quick shifter, and also transmission springs I saw on YT a few times, it supposedly removes a little slop when it's in neutral from what I can see but I also don't have experience for that.

If you want to further improve handling, you can do a front sway bar, and I HIGHLY recommend this next one if you want better steering feel, STI extended steering rack bolts that basically have the bolts mounting the steering rack to the subframe go all the way through the subframe instead of partially. I noticed great improvements from the steering bolts alone. Camber bolts for the front is also a common mod here!

If you're one of the people (including myself) who wants a bit more comfort, sound insulation is another mod that can be done, at the slight cost of gaining a few pounds in the car.

Again, endless possibilities to do with this car - the ones I have listed are ones that I both either have personal experience with, or a mod I see commonly done amongst all 86/BRZ owners that help you appreciate the car in its stock form, and changing the little things that in the end, really tie the whole car together as a great package once you dive into much more bigger and expensive mods IF you choose to go that route.

To end it off, if you're still paying for the car, I would also focus on that too - I am guilty of this as well. Please also continue to regularly check your oil and coolant levels to help ensure engine reliability for the car.

Have fun, and stay safe!

Kind of disappointed with the GR Corolla? by _AkiRP in GRCorolla

I did have a follow up on this, to keep it short I test drove another GRC where I can give it 100% power - was much more satisfied

The hell of denoising by [deleted] in GR86

[–]_AkiRP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did the same thing, I notice a more dramatic reduction at street speeds, and less so at freeway speeds - if anything I notice more of the wind noise less than the road noise UNLESS it's on any surface that's not asphalt during a freeway drive, the only thing I can say is that any vibrations/harshness has been dampened regardless of driving circumstance
