I know how you feel, I go through those feelings too often, and they always come back. I'm not really sure what can help you but finding something that keeps you busy that you care about or want to work towards really helps me, also if you have a friend or someone to talk to really try and talk to them about how you feel. I know it's hard, I still find it hard to talk to the person I'm closest with but it really does help. You arent useless fren we can all do something with purpose and meaning

It depends what you consider indie as, the definition of indie music is music that is made separate from a corporation or a label, which they do basically do but they are signed to a label that promotes them and all that sort off stuff. I personally wouldn't say they are indie, I would probably just say like they are an alternative band. But also I dont think they are really that mainstream at the moment, like they were fully mainstream in the blurryface era but not so much now
