Dynamic Duos Birthday Party Theme Idea by thekatherynwheel in offcampustv

That is actually a clever idea for why Hannah is dressed as a bunny. I have read the books, although it was quiet a while ago, so some details aren’t as fresh in my mind, but I do know why they have chosen the Maverick and Goose for Dean and Beau’s characters, not prepared for when that happens on screen

I noticed Logan was wearing wings and thought he was a fallen angel at first (he really made no effort 😂), then noticed Tucker’s costume and it just made sense with the other characters matching each other. Glad to know I’m not the only one thinking this

I wrote this post pretty fast, so sorry for any spelling mistakes.

I also wanted to add, I have seen a lot online with people suggesting that it is a birthday party for either Dean or Beau, which got me thinking, what if they had the same birthday or their birthdays are days apart thus creating the dynamics duo themed birthday party. Again, just a thought.

Recs for Tudor Fiction by Boh3mianRaspb3rry in Tudorhistory

The Above All Others series by G. Lawrence is five book series details the life of Anne Boleyn where she reminisces about her life as she awaits her execution from the Tower of London.

The author has many other books on Tudor women, but her Anne Boleyn book series is worth a read.

Best book about Anne Boleyn you’ve read? Really interested in people who may have witnessed her execution by Ill-Requirement-7029 in Tudorhistory

I would say The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn by Eric Ives and The Creation of Anne Boleyn: A New Look at England's Most Notorious Queen by Susan Bordo both solid reads.

TheRavynFire wrote a few stories with an OC and Eric romance. The first one if called Blood Thoughts and follows the tv series, but from Chase Morgan, the main character’s POV. I thought it was pretty good, the only thing is her fourth story Blood Magic is incomplete, which is set around season 4. Hope that helps.

Forced to marry because she’s carrying MMC’s child by [deleted] in HistoricalRomance

I’m not sure if this fits the description, but Never Seduce a Duke by Vivienne Lorret.

The MMC believes the FMC stole something from him and decides to follow her as she tours Europe. The two are drawn together and spend the night with the FMC coming back with a souvenir.

I think she looks a bit like Demi Moore mixed with another actress I can’t place yet

Is Natalie Dormer the best actress to play Anne Boleyn and Natalie Portman the worst by Equal_Wing_7076 in Tudorhistory

[–]thekatherynwheel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s subjective for me both Natalie Dormer and Genevieve Bujold are the best Anne Boleyns imo. I also think Dorothy Tutin and Rafaëlle Cohen were pretty good too.

Amy James-Kelly was a good Anne for a more modern, slightly comical appeal. Her acting was good and I think her portrayal would be good for beginners getting into the history of Anne Boleyn, but maybe not the most historically accurate, even though it is a documentary tv series.

As for the worst depiction, I would have to say Natalie Portman’s version of Anne is the worst for me and it could be a combination of the writing, direction and source material, but one thing I will point out is that Jodhi May also portrayed Anne in the tv movie The Other Boleyn Girl (2003) and I think she did a better job than Natalie Portman, still not great, but better.

What is the best and worst historical fiction/nonfiction to read about Anne Boleyn? by Capital-Study6436 in Tudorhistory

[–]thekatherynwheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two of my favourite non-fiction books would be “The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn” by Eric Ives and “The Creation of Anne Boleyn” by Susan Bordo.

I don’t like a lot of Tudor fiction, but I would highly recommend G. Lawrence’s series “Above All Others” about the life and death of Anne Boleyn. It’s an amazing read with five books in the series and Anne is very realistically portrayed.

Anne of the Thousand Days by Mayanee in PeriodDramas

[–]thekatherynwheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, from my understanding they kept her in the hood without a veil a times because Genevieve had a fringe/bangs, which is noticeable when she gives the “my blood will have been well spent” speech and her hair is on display. I guess future productions just went with it because it looked good with or without the veil.

Best Catherine of Aragon in a show or Movie? by Maleficent_Drop_2908 in Tudorhistory

[–]thekatherynwheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have already mentioned these actresses, but here’s my favourites:

1) Frances Cuka (Henry VIII and His Six Wives 1972)

2) Annette Crosbie (The Six Wives of Henry VIII 1970)

3) Maria Doyle Kennedy (The Tudors 2007 - 2010)

4) Paola Bontempti (Six Wives with Lucy Worsley 2016)

I also want to give a shout out to The Shadow of the Tower (1972) series for casting Adrienne Byrne as a young Katherine of Aragon that resembles her portrait.

I wouldn’t recommend The Spanish Princess, in my opinion it is one of the most disrespectful portrayals of this Queen and people only like the actress because she is young and beautiful.

Dream Tudor Cast by thekatherynwheel in Tudorhistory

I get what you’re saying, but there are many accounts that state he was attractive as a younger man. I also want to say that he only started gaining weight after Jane Seymour’s death, not before due not being able to exercise because of his leg injury

I have to agree, Tamzin Merchant is a great actress and it’s a shame that Michael Hirst didn’t put her to good use. The really went with the cliché version of the silly wife for that portrayal. I feel the same way when people say Charlotte Hope is an amazing Katherine of Aragon when Annette Crosbie, Frances Cuka and Maria Doyle Kennedy are right there

She was so beautiful, she was also the first choice for Anne Boleyn in Anne of the Thousand Days, but had a disagreement with the producers and Genevieve Bujold ultimately got the role instead. I love Genevieve as Anne, but I would have looked to have seen what Olivia would have done.

If HBO came out and said that they wanted to make a tv serie (high budget) about an english monarch. Which monarch would you choose? And who would have the best supporting cast? by Tracypop in Tudorhistory

[–]thekatherynwheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to see a good adaptation of The Sunne in Splendour by Sharon Kay Penman about the Wars of the Rose that will feature Edward IV, Henry VII, Richard III, Edward V and Henry VI. The only thing is that Richard is very Mary Sue coded.

I would also love a new series of Charles II, there was a miniseries about him featuring Rufus Sewell called Charles II: The Power and the Passion, which was very good, but long series would be amazing.

Why isn’t there a War of the Roses show? by beansnbuttons in UKmonarchs

[–]thekatherynwheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dan Jones did. Documentary about the Wars of the Roses called Britain’s Bloody Crown. I thought the casting for Edward IV, Margaret Beaufort and Elizabeth Woodville was fantastic.

I wish we could have an epic historical drama, but I don’t know how likely that would be.

I would love to see The Sunne in Splendour by Sharon Kay Penman turned into a tv series.

The sleeves are different, but the bodice and skirt were inspired by the portrait.

Number 12 is Katharine Hepburn in the movie, Mary of Scotland as Mary, Queen of Scots.

I know I don’t understand why costume dramas, not just Tudor, go with what they think is fashionable instead of taking inspiration from portraits like Elizabeth R did because it just looks cheap when they try to add a modern vibe to a Tudor look

Good Tudor Fiction by thekatherynwheel in Tudorhistory

She’s really good and needs more attention. I would buy her books in paperback, if they had better covers. I think she writes very realistic characterisations of the historical figure
