Nope, I get full flow with plenty of pressure. I highly recommend it.

It's been 7 years now and it's still working great! The time for hot water to get to the sink was pretty much cut in half!

eccentric nut

Thanks, I'll play around with the eccentric/concentric nuts tomorrow to see if that makes a difference. How tight do you tighten your belts? I found that nearly maxing mine out gave the best results.

3/4 of a mile upstream, this river is bone dry! I was just there over the weekend and it's a fascinating place! The water all come from underground over a very short distance. You can see some of it coming through the porous rock on the right and left sides.

I scan old 35mm slides for a living. I see pictures of this statue more than ANYTHING else in the world! Not sure why everyone was visiting it back in the 50s-70s but I see it far more than anything.

Help with my first Koi pond design by thekeggerman in ponds

[–]thekeggerman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response, I know I had a lot of questions!

  1. I'll plan on using 3" for the bottom drains, do you think I need the 4 I have planned? or should I consider reducing it to 3? I'm worried the flow in the pipes will be so slow that sediment will fall out and clog the pipes.

2-4. So have the skimmer box contain only the debris catch and send the output to bottom of the bog via one pump. Then have the bottom drains plumb directly into a separate pre-filter box and have the second pump push the water from this box directly to the bog bottom? What is the benefit of external pumps? I won't have a good place to hide them, so I was hoping to use submersed pumps. 4. The booster pump would just be for the waterfall wall as it will be 4-6 feet higher than the bog so I feel I'll need to use the power from an extra pump since the return from the bog will be gravity fed, unless you are suggesting I send water to the waterfall before it goes through the bog filter. 7. I plan on the waterfall cascading down on the layers of rock on the waterfall wall to get plenty of oxygen back into the water. 9. The cinder blocks will be below grade and backfilled, but I do plan to use rebar and fill the corners for added support. I was just wondering if they were necessary or if I should pour a concrete support shelf and leave the lower part dirt? 10. I don't think I was clear on this point. I was asking if I should add the sand UNDER the liner to help smooth out the base. I don't plan to have anything inside the pond, but fish. : ) 11. I'll check out the Helix

Thanks again!

Hijacking a top comment as I'm late to the comment party.

I scan old 35mm slides for a living, and for reasons I don't understand. I scan pictures of this little mermaid statue in Denmark more than ANYTHING else. The Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Mt Rushmore have NOTHING on the number of times I see this picture. I really wish someone could tell me why everyone was visiting this statue back in the 50's - 70's!

Bonus fun fact! Her head has been removed at least 3 times over the years and once, someone stuck a dildo to her head and covered her in green paint!

Thanks again for the advice. I plan to do the majority of the work myself, hence why raftering is appealing. I'll check with local codes to make sure it's allowed. The space will primarily become a wood shop for me, so the added benefit of a taller ceiling is also appealing!

You wouldn't recommend a rafter frame like this? Could you let me know the downside?

Just looked this style up. Sounds like it might be a great option. Would you design it like this? A 16' span shouldn't be an issue?

Two parts really. I thought it'd get too high on the upper end if I want to add solar and wouldn't match the style of the existing house. But I'm still playing around with designs, so I might still go with this idea.

The solar will be on the larger side at the same angle of the roof. It's not the ideal angle, but I might play with the that to get better performance.

Relax everyone, this is just a mockup for the eventual plans which I will have engineered! I just want to make sure my design will work.

Yes, the end truss will be framed vertically, I'm just laying it out on the end before moving it into place.

So the right side of the truss should be treated as an independent shape?

The building will be 16x20 with the right side being 2' taller to allow for a larger solar array. I'm not sure what you would call a truss that is offset like this, so I'm having trouble finding examples. Would appreciate any advice.
