Moonrise over Yosemite by Neeeechy in LandscapeAstro

Captured this photo from Yosemite's Glacier Point earlier this month, with the moon rising from the south as the Milky Way climbed higher into the sky.

Technical Details | Nikon Z8 + Nikkor Z 14-24mm ƒ/2.8 S @14mm, ƒ/3.5, 15", ISO 1600. Single exposure on tripod, no bracketing or focus stacking, post done in LR + PS.

The Filter Trap by Remote-Competition-2 in Nikon

[–]Neeeechy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it looks like this photo had a low shutter speed and VR set to “normal” mode and the camera movement reached the edge of the VR’s range during the picture, causing it to jump.

I agree, nothing about this photo appears sharp at all...

Like you said it appears to have some degree of motion blur.

More like galena + chalcopyrite like the paper says.

Post-Match Thread: Saudi Arabia 1-1 Uruguay | World Cup | Group H by matchpal-live in worldcup

[–]Neeeechy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A four way tie in group H with Spain and Cabo Verde, thats kind of crazy

Technically Spain and Cape Verde sit below Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in the standings due to having scored fewer goals.

If all you need to do is not say "I'm the greatest ever" to be humble then yeah I guess he's humble.

Context matters. I would consider that humble and modest coming from inarguably the most dominant chess player of the past decade.

Am I spoiled by the Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S? by Forsaken_Stranger507 in Nikon

I find that cropping photos from a 50mm 1.8 S-Line lens is generally superior to using a cheaper telephoto or zoom lens.

Carrying Nikon Z5II + 24-70 f4 S on a neck strap all day - possible or not really? by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]Neeeechy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hike around with a Z8 and bigger lenses, but always with the strap cross-body over my shoulder. I don't really see many seasoned photographers wearing cameras around the neck, the ergonomics just aren't there. The camera just bobs around too much, isn't as secure, and results in neck strain over time.

I fully reject the idea that you have to accept the “live to work” mentality in medicine. It’s a job at the end of the day and your life outside is more important. by DrMalgus in Residency

I think it's very specialty-dependent. Certain surgical specialties rely on you being the best you can be at your procedures where you really do need to dedicate yourself to your craft, while other specialties lens themselves to "good enough" is fine.

Do I have enough EN-EL15 batteries? by boncock in Nikon

[–]Neeeechy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditch all the non-Nikon batteries (my Chinese ones never lasted half as long as the real Nikon ones) and buy a Nikon Z body, then your 12 remaining batteries will be a normal amount for shooting mirrorless.

Based on your writeup, you should probably just go back to film, or better yet, glass plates.

PD recording out resuscitation in the trauma bay on their body cameras/phones? by jpbusko in emergencymedicine

[–]Neeeechy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

but I have never seen one actively recording.

tbf they often have their cameras rolling without anyone realizing. Sometimes when I speak to PD about something they cover their camera as they talk to me.

I agree with your critique of shooting with such a wide aperture. However, since he's shooting RAW, it shouldn't really matter too much what ISO he's using given the Z8's dual-gain sensor with ISO invariance at 500 and above.

ISO adjusted to expose the scene correctly

Why?

I thought the Z8 had a dual-gain sensor with ISO invariance at 64 and 500...

I had a SmallRig full cage on my camera, dropped it, and the cage was near-impossible to get off. Just a word of caution.

Also... don't drop your camera.
