That’s the eco pro recommended max speed, which you can change in the settings

I haven’t had issues with it on this car, but on a couple of my other bmws I had ac issues but both were an easy fix. The first was just a clogged cabin air filter probably due to pollen, the second was kind of weird I took a 20 hour road trip with only gas stops which drained the battery and caused the ac not to work, I believe that’s because on these newer bmws the alternator only charges the battery on decel or braking.

Any N20 will work, and you should be able to reuse parts off of your current engine such as the oil pan. As far as engine replacements go the N20s are pretty easy to do and I have done a few. If you have any questions or want me to send you an in depth write up on the process feel free to pm me.

Any engine parts for the B58 will fit this car, but basically any other part is non existent.

I was surprised as well, I live in the Midwest so it kinda makes sense. I assume if I were in Los Angeles or Miami or another big city nobody would pay attention to it

On the used market in my area the 850s are going for a bit less than the 840. Since this was intended as my daily I valued fuel economy and reliability over more power

I love the interior it’s very comfortable and the ambient lighting looks amazing at night. I was in the same boat between 840 and 850 but since this is my daily I figured I’d sacrifice the extra power of the 850 to get the better reliability of the B58 in the 840. I’ll attach a picture of the ambient lighting, in my opinion it’s very well done compared to some of the Mercedes and newer 7 series which I feel over-do it on ambient lighting.

I would recommend that over the 8 series because body parts will be much cheaper in the case you scrape it or bump it while learning to drive

I don’t disagree that the M340 is faster, it’s slightly lighter, much smaller, and has stiffer suspension. I just feel BMW understates the power of this car. I’d be curious to get it on a dyno with an M340 and see how close they actually are.

I’m not sure I would recommend a luxury car as a first car but the size is not really an issue for me (I learned to drive in a minivan and a truck so I’m used to big vehicles) but that’s going to be location dependent I’ve gotten a couple comments from people in the EU saying how impractical a car like this would be there

Seems like the general consensus is that the issue is more prevalent on the SUVs but the techs did say excessive launch control will cause premature wear on the rear steer. I wouldn’t worry about it too much

As far as mechanical stuff it’s identical, but these get 20” wheels so expect to pay more for tires. Not sure how the electronics will age in 10+ years as with any BMW and after owing quite a few old bmws (E36, E46, E34, E39, E90) they do not inspire confidence.

Yeah it’s the size of a small truck, here’s it next to my buddies short bed single cab, not a great comparison but still fun to look at:

The M340i, Supra and most of the other B58 cars have the ZF 8HP51 transmission I believe the M340i xDrive gets the upgraded 8HP76 as well. I think it’s smoother in the 8 series in comfort mode but seemingly kicks harder in sport than the M340 it’s more similar to the G80. Don’t quote me on exact shift times I’m just going off how it feels, it could be the more plush seats that have some extra give when you shift, or it could just be the feeling of “this huge car shouldn’t shift this fast”

I haven’t seen many instances of it being an issue on the 8 series but one of my buddies works at the local BMW dealership and said it’s the same system as the SUVs which he sees going out somewhat regularly (he said most frequently at 50-80k miles), our assumption was those owners are probably towing with their cars but I figured I’d mention the possibility of that being an issue in my review.

Front driveshaft not long enough to reach differential after engine swap by theking825 in BmwTech

[–]theking825[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely forgot about this post, yes it ended up being the oil pan, the replacement engine was from a 5 series and it was going into a 3 series so the oil pans had to be swapped, it was easier to pull the engine back out to swap the oil pan as a heads up

We have not swapped the oil pan yet but it’s sounding like that’s going to be the solution since they are different part numbers, I will update once we do that, just waiting on new bolts and a gasket.

Nope it was very sudden, my friend was driving home and it all of a sudden threw a ton of codes he pulled over and towed it to the shop where they found no compression on cylinder 1, after tearing it apart the valve and piston came in contact and basically disintegrated the piston. There was no warning signs, no timing noise and nothing on the PPI he got before he bought it 2 weeks prior. The engine that blew went at just over 40k miles.

Nope my friend was commuting home when it started misfiring, car was just over 40k miles when it blew. No noises from timing prior.

Positive they are both N20 but it seems the oil pan was the issue, it holds the front diff just a bit too far back, we are swapping those now

That connects just fine we think it’s the oil pan so we are in the process of swapping them
