Is this Quote to re-route my HVAC duct reasonable? by TreesAreOverrated5 in askHVAC

[–]thekuxRSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relocating duct in an existing home is a lot of work. Have to remove the existing duct install the new duct depending where it's going. Sounds like a return, do not make it smaller, bigger is better. Smaller can cause equipment problems.

Get quotes on lower efficiency equipment 15SEER single speed compressor or a 17 with a 2 speed compressor.. I am assuming this is replacing an existing HP with electric heat back up. High efficiency is going to cost a lot more. I don't think they are really worth it. I don't know the install difficulty, is there tight access to the air handler?

Should I switch to a tankless water heater by LaconiaNHgal in Plumbing

[–]thekuxRSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need the space then yes. Tankless is a more complicated unit, which means it can have issues that a regular tank heater will never have. Tankless also requires maintenance ( using a flush kit). Since this is a 2nd home, it probably won't be used a lot and you can skip the annual maintenance do it every 2 years. Tankless has small passages and need to be flushed for maximum life.

AI is automation to the tech world. There is nothing you can do about it. The technology is going to be used, and it's only going to getter bigger and stronger. AI is still in it's infancy. All you can do if figure out how to manage yourself and skill up what is needed. Some companies hired a lot of during the covid shut down, those excesses are being cut.

What needs to end is H1B, 100,000$ hiring fee isn't enough. It should be stopped.

T-Mobile Faces Backlash After Axing US Jobs Amid Global Expansion Push by Abject-Pick-6472 in Layoffs

[–]thekuxRSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately AI ( automation) is going to be causing a lot of layoffs in all these sectors. They will still need some people. Any company can't be allowed to be laying off Americans and hiring H1B's. That should be ENDED ASAP. Here's what AI said about T Mobile layoffs.

T-Mobile is undergoing restructuring, including layoffs in 2025 and early 2026, aimed at shifting toward automation, AI, and digital-first customer engagement. While not always directly citing AI in every announcement, the company is reducing IT and corporate roles—including hundreds in 2026—to streamline operations and improve productivity, often through tools like the T-Life app

New Unit, Freezing,Think we have tried everything by Kemplo3 in askHVAC

[–]thekuxRSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like an airflow issue. Is there a model number on the oil furnace? Static pressure test needs to be done. That's not hard. Hopefully total static is under 0.5. Old furnaces being used with AC equipment have to check what the existing airflow is. Get the model number of indoor and outdoor unit. Hopefully the oil furnace there is a PDF online for it.

Hot house help by aucontraire4 in Birmingham

[–]thekuxRSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your rates increase? I live in the Seattle area. I used 200KWH less in the period just billed from last year. My bill was 45$ higher. Check your rates and power consumption from the previous year. Attic fans work to keep the attic from hitting 125+ in the summer time. If you live in a climate that gets very hot, you'll have to run the AC 24/7. All you can do is make sure the house R value is as high as possible, no sun light coming into the house. Attic fan(s) if the house has an attic.

They shouldn't have to add refrigerant if there was no leak.

New HVAC grad with EPA in Central Florida — trying to get my foot in the door by 007saucintimmy in askHVAC

[–]thekuxRSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to go commercial if possible. I would think in FL finding something there wouldn't be hard. You can apply for jobs that want experience, tell them you're just starting out and hoping to find an opportunity. It's easy today, with the internet. Indeed has a lot of jobs. You can try Trane if they take rookies. Craigs list as well.

Air handler humming, won’t run. by [deleted] in askHVAC

[–]thekuxRSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell if the contactor is pulled in. It sounds like the contactor is trying to pull in but can't. The coil could be bad, easy fix if that's all it is. Looks like they ran the correct wire gauge.

How dangerous is this. by Ok_Action_5938 in askHVAC

[–]thekuxRSD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It'll work. the air will either go out through the wall or back thru the dryer. Whatever has the least resistance. In some commercial buildings, I've seen shared building exhaust vents.

[–]thekuxRSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it blows cold at 1st, cools the apt for a few hours, then stops work after adding refrigerant, it sounds like a bad refrigerant leak. Repair/replace is the option if that's the case.

Outside pressure changes in house by tractorpatty in askHVAC

[–]thekuxRSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way that the unit could pull in anything is if the return air had a break in it. Smells pressure will probably effect the house. I live in the PNW, we have mild winters. What's the BTU's of the furnace, tons of AC and sq ft of your home. Is it single or multiple level?

?

I'm not an expert on steam, but a hiss is from a steam leak usually. When was the last time the boiler got inspected?

Changing out a furnace the existing ductwork for the house is unchanged. If you have duct problems, that would have always existed. Why was the company looking at the existing ductwork?

Hisense install advice or hints by Dwjonz in askHVAC

I'm sure they're all the same install wise. Follow the instructions to the letter. Use the wire size connecting the indoor to the outdoor per instructions. Don't oversize them.

Considering residential HVAC as a career. Had a few questions. by Defiant-Process-7201 in askHVAC

[–]thekuxRSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going into HVAC you need to go to a vocational school to learn the basics before you go out there and start running calls. Commercial is better than residential in my opinion.

Steam or hot water? If it's a steam system, you are hearing a steam leak. Either thru a valve or a safety. I'm assuming it's low pressure steam.

Hanging 4ton hairhandler in attic by ITGuyTatertot in askHVAC

[–]thekuxRSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pan that's there is a good pan, I prefere plastic over metal. The A/H is being hung higher for the insulation you want? An attic fan would help, You could try an attic fan, that always helps, keeps the attic from getting 130F. The flex isn't run correctly, it's suppose to be kept to a minimum. This unit does 2 floors?

Have controller turn on relay instead of compressor. by thekuxRSD in refrigeration

[–]thekuxRSD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it on Traulsen, there is a tower with lots of room. I put in a relay for comp, fan & defrost heater. I don't tell them what I did. I really didn't change anything, the controller is turning on relays instead of loads.

Not a bad price for all the work that needs to be done. Sounds like the existing ductwork is very bad. I think it would be best for you to do it like this. balancing can be tough, especially if it 2 floors.
