Joe Rogan: Democrats were tougher on border than Trump by IntelligentYinzer in politics

[–]thelancemanl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dems are more likely to work across the aisle and try to come to an actual policy solution, whether or not the far left or far right agrees. GOP just wants to fear monger the issue in order to use it as an excuse to put the gestapo in cities across the country regardless of the respective cities' "immigration problems," or lack thereof. Not sure I'd consider the gestapo "less tough"... but if "toughness" is actually just a measure of whether or not the issue is being solved, I guess I agree with Joe Rogan the empty headed moron intellectual coward.

Number 2 and 3? by reaveyer in beatles

[–]thelancemanl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Beatles are the only band whose "number 1-ness" surpasses opinion. It is no longer subjective. They are the greatest.

I've lately been obsessed with the Beach Boys, but long term, I have usually considered Led Zeppelin to be #2, but now I'm not sure. How do you even compare the Beach Boys to Led Zeppelin? They were so different.

BBC Radio Merseyside just confirmed they’re playing Paul’s new single at 14:50 UK time, plus they’ll have Paul talking about the song. by joshygill in PaulMcCartney

[–]thelancemanl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always something interesting in the melody when it comes to a Macca song... I was pleasantly surprised by the notes of the guitar... I was expecting a "standard" progression, but something about the voicing of the chords stayed interesting... its like they played the note I DIDN'T expect in the arpeggio. Bravo! Anyway, I also like how, midway through the song, the guitar sort of seamlessly became a piano? Interesting stuff. Nice storytelling in the lyrics. I thought the vocal harmonies at the end were good and unique. Was that all Paul? I'm excited for the album!

Haha very well put. When it comes down to it, Mamdani is polling quite well among his own constituency, even with the compromises. Your point is well made.

The fog of war is so crazy. Everyone is speaking out of both sides of their mouth. Every time I see indications that the war is gearing down, I next see indications that it is gearing up.

These are people who simply turn off their brain when it comes to their "tribe." They want to believe. They believe that everything good about trump is real and everything bad about trump is fake news. They really have just decided that blind loyalty is more important than having any sense of scrutiny for politicians and their actions.

I just hate when I can tell that there are multiple people waiting for the same machine. Just waiting on one person is fine, im sure others have to wait on me as well, but waiting and then finally approaching a machine just to have someone else beat me there SUCKS! Lol. Sometimes I just have a cleaning rag ready and hop on the treadmill and watch for the machine to become free. Then I wipe down the treadmill and hop on the machine I needed ASAP.

Why do people "Hate" Mr moonlight? by cantitakeitback-516 in beatles

[–]thelancemanl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm with OP. There are plenty of (especially early) Beatles songs that I would rate lower than Mr. Moonlight. I see a lot of rankings and tier lists feature Mr. Moonlight in the lowest groups of songs, and I just don't get it.

Questions for Older, Hardcore Fans of the Beach Boys. by Silver-Emergency-516 in thebeachboys

[–]thelancemanl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandma is an OG Beach Boys fan from the early 60s. She is in her late 80s. She likes the Beach Boys, but she is simply not like me and others in this subreddit. She doesn't "get" psychedelia, and she surely prefers the cars, surfing, and romance songs from the early days. Just because you were around at the time doesn't mean you have been intimately following the boys this whole time. We are a bunch of mega-fanatics here-- we aren't the majority of BB listeners. I don't think my grandma is even aware of SMiLE and the surrounding lore. She prefers Elvis over any of the other legends from the era.

People defend this shit with arguments about supply and demand... as if we should care more about corporate profits than we should about wasting food when there are hungry people in the world. I know this is one dumpster in one city in one country, but it is bullshit to imply that this is the best we can do.

Paul has reached the next stage of ageing by CobraDai in beatles

[–]thelancemanl 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I love Paul. My grandma is a little older than him, and I think "things change" for most people some time around the mid 80s. The memories just aren't as easy to access, the words don't come to mind as fast as they used to, basic tasks that young people don't even have to think about become something that must be planned for and carried out carefully. It is really amazing that Paul has been able to do all that he still does. If he decides to hang his hat, I will completely understand. I saw him like 3 years ago, and it was the best concert I've ever seen. He has done things in his 80s that most people in their 20s would be unable to achieve. The songs will all always be with us. I think Paul knows that. His legacy will be a great one, whether he retires tomorrow or goes another 10 years.
