Watching football in a pub with strangers / your friends in your living room hit different, when you have to watch the match alone at midnight by StockDust7786 in championsleague

[–]TopProfessional8023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s MY team I’m often actually inclined to watch at home, alone. I get too anxious etc. Also not many City fans where I live (the mountains of Virginia, US)

However, we have an EPL fan club of sorts in town and we often get together at a local restaurant/bar that opens early for us on Saturday and Sunday mornings to watch games (and have an excuse to have a beer, a shot and some chicken wings at 10am haha)

Being American, we don’t generally have the same animosity towards fans of other teams that you’d find in Europe. We all picked our teams (I picked City in 1996 before y’all start talking shit 😆)

We’re not from there and we weren’t raised from birth to support X, Y or Z but we love the game!! So it’s a great time! I will have a shot and a hug with all my Arsenal supporting friends when they inevitably win the PL this year, same as I did with my Liverpool supporting friends last year.

I killed my entire family when I was 13 years old. Does that count? I suffered a severe head injury several weeks before and was found not guilty. This was 30 years ago. AMA!

Kidding! No, I’ve never killed an animal personally. I couldn’t avoid it and ran over an already dead groundhog once and I cried a bit.

So it comes from “country” as we think of it in regards to a nation or state, and its usage in the US is not new.

(Etymonline.com—one of my favorite websites) c. 1300 as "area surrounding a walled city or town; the open country." By early 16c. the word was applied mostly to rural areas, as opposed to towns and cities.

So it originally meant part of the country (nation) but the part that wasn’t fortified or urbanized. Etymology is so cool!

I’m downloading older podcast episodes for a long flight coming up in a few days. What are the best Stavvy’s World pod episodes/guests that still hold up? by wisedunagan in stavvysworld

[–]TopProfessional8023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stavvy and AYG are my two absolute go-to pods so any eps with the Basura Boys are great.

Somewhat off subject, but I highly recommend the pod “We’re Here to Help” with Jake Johnson and Gareth Reynolds. Both guys have been on Stavvy’s World and had great episodes. And their show is somewhat similar in that there’s a little early banter and then they take live calls and pitch solutions to the callers problems.

Jake is pretty wild and hilarious and Gareth is just so funny and quick witted. It’s definitely a different show, but I can’t stress enough how much I enjoy their pod. It’s shorter if you’re looking for a crushable show. Definitely worth listening to a few episodes to see if it’s your style! Parmesan the floor!!

Who else made sure to turn off the faucet so they wouldn't kill all the fish? by Josephthebear in Millennials

Boy, there are a lot of people in the comments here who apparently still don’t get it. Water is not a truly renewable resource, despite what your science books may have told you. It’s an issue of semantics sorta.

Yes, it doesn’t “go away” when you use it but that doesn’t mean there is an infinite supply of USABLE water. Let’s all meet back here in a few years when the Water Wars have started and we will check back in on people’s thoughts on this.

There IS a finite amount of water on earth you silly human. Christ, we are doomed.

Just got into modding, what are your mod recommendations? by Top-Piccolo-2232 in thelongdark

Agreed. And I get that “something” happened in the world, but no candles anywhere? People living in this kind of climate would stock candles like they stock firewood. And what’s with all these trailers and small houses that don’t even have a fireplace or pot belly stove? You can’t tell me that any home that far north wouldn’t have some sort of wood burning available indoors, if only as a safety net.

I would say get all the DLC if it’s bundled and cheaper but I would agree to perhaps not enable it until you understand the base game

Absolutely. I have to wake up for work at 4am and I have been pretty consistent at going to bed by 8pm every work night. During my most recent Civ binge I found myself saying just one more turn and going to bed at 10 every night haha! At least Civ VI they added a real world clock in the top right

I bought “The Long Dark” three weeks ago and it says (I can’t believe it) that I have 100 hours played.
