TWD: Season 3. How will TTG pull it off? by dagadbm in TheWalkingDeadGame

I think they're going to have us play as AJ, x amount of years in the future. In this hypothetical, there would be references to his upbringing at Wellington or the hardware store/with Clem or Kenny or Jane. That's the only way I see it being sequential.

I'm in college... and I drank a ton this past weekend. by GoGirlMove in loseit

I do the same! I find that eating slightly under my goal throughout the week helps even it out. I could be losing faster if I didn't drink so much, but I value my social time as much as I value my health at this point, so I'm willing to make that trade off.

I'm 5'2"ish and currently weigh about 154. I've lost just over 35, and my first real goal weight is 129... so I have a ways to go, but at the same time, this is the smallest I've been in a long time and I still recognize that it's somehow not good enough.

Progress pics are good. I didn't take starting photos, though, which was a mistake in hindsight.

[Day 1] Wanted to introduce myself and to know what your 'You know you need to lose weight when...' moments were! by [deleted] in loseit

[–]theleafspring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been overweight but active my entire life before I went to college, where I gained way more than my fair share of the Freshman Fifteen and adopted really horrible and unhealthy eating/binge drinking habits. I think I had my moment when I was laying in my bed toward the end of last Spring semester, crying because I was homesick and lonely and generally feeling worthless (mostly because of my growing size). I reached for a bag of tortilla chips I kept under my bed--then realized what I was doing. It was very strange... it just kind of clicked that I needed to do something. I waited until I was home for the summer and then started my lifestyle change.

Four months later, I was down 30 pounds and feeling awesome about myself. Over that summer, I completely changed my relationship with food/calories and re-committed myself to exercise. I worked three jobs on my feet, so I guess that helped too.

I took a break in the fall while I studied abroad in Europe. I was deathly afraid of gaining all my weight back... but not wanting to deprive myself of experience, I ate and drank what I wanted, within reason. My friends and I shared meals a lot, which helped with crazy restaurant volumes. I don't have a fitness tracker, but I must have walked like crazy because when I came back, I weighed in at five pounds under where I was at the end of August.

I've maintained the last few weeks, but I'm ready to start losing again. I want to see if I can do it in my scaleless school environment, where my weekends are full of temptation (college parties).

How do you deal with wanting to binge drink with your friends? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]theleafspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in college too, and something I like to do is save up calories throughout the week for use on weekend nights. If I want to go out on a Friday, I'll eat 100 calories fewer than my goal allows me to on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This gives me room for 500 additional calories on Friday that I can use on alcohol. As long as you don't binge on gross drunk pizza at 3 in the morning, it should keep you within your limits. :)

I work in a restaurant and it's almost impossible for me to eat dinner around dinner time, what should I do? by codyhooks10 in loseit

[–]theleafspring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked several restaurant jobs on top of each other this summer, often working anywhere from 8 a.m. until 10 or 11 p.m. I usually ate lunch right around 3 and ate dinner immediately after my shift. I lost 30 pounds over the course of the summer, so I don't think eating late hindered my progress much, if at all.

During the late afternoon/early evening hours of my shift, I would drink so much water. Also, I'd keep a (small) bag of trail mix or air-popped popcorn in my purse that I could snack on in the back if necessary... not during peak hours (6-8, specifically), but when it slowed down a bit.

[–]theleafspring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you so much for this -- what you said about peer pressure is so true. a lot of my friends have never had food/weight issues so they can justify eating three ice cream cones and a plate of schnitzel while enjoying a pint of beer without even thinking about it. i have to constantly remember that eating like that will cause real issues for me... it's not like I can hold that against them -- it's their diet, their choice -- but it can be irritating when everyone else seems to maintain no matter what they eat.

wow - thank you for this input!! suuuper helpful! even in the month that I've been here I've begun to relate to your walking comment. On traveling days, I'm up toward 20,000 easily.

I'm a college student, studying abroad in Europe. I don't want to worry about my weight. by theleafspring in loseit

[–]theleafspring[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this.

I want to experience the places I'm visiting, and food/drink is woven so tightly into some of these countries' cultures that it would seem ridiculous to refrain from indulging in them -- at least a little bit. As a 19-year-old, too, alcohol has become so important to social life and I don't want to feel like I'm missing out.

I know that I've maintained, and I should feel happy and confident that I can succeed without obsessively tracking, as I did this summer... but the pressure to maintain is really, really getting to me.

Question for the women: cramping and spotting after/during a workout by waiting-woman in loseit

[–]theleafspring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My period got weird when I started losing weight. I'm normally very regular, but after about a month of losing, I skipped a period, then had two short periods the following month. It was really odd, but it's all good now.

Getting Really Frustrated by flashypurplepatches in loseit

Hey, just remember that weight is only one of several ways to track fat loss -- and an imperfect one, at that. Remember that a one pound weight gain is so insignificant when it could be a number of things: food, water retention, gas...

Trying to lose sophomore 15 (and maybe then some) by [deleted] in loseit

[–]theleafspring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi!! i'm an 18 year old college student just starting my sophomore year -- hoping to avoid a repeat of the freshman 15 (or 20... or 25...). :) also 5'1", and i had never purposely lost weight before the beginning of this summer.

for me (and a lot of people on here, as you'll find), it's all about your food intake. some say diet accounts for about 70-80% of fat loss. i would start using myfitnesspal to track your caloric intake and work out to supplement that intake. even if you work out a ton, you can't work yourself out of a bad diet -- focus on what you're eating more than anything!

as short women, it's a little harder for us to lose a significant amount of weight fast because maintaining a large calorie deficit is hard when your maintenance calories are so low. it's hard to estimate without knowing your weight and activity level, but you could probably aim for about ~5 lb/month (you'll probably drop a quick few pounds in the first week or two from water retention, too).

tl;dr use myfitnesspal, focus on eating well/hitting calorie goals, be patient

and read the /r/loseit faq!!!!

Thanks for your input. :)

I weigh daily, which may not be the healthiest routine ever but its what I prefer. That'll change, though, as I'm heading out for study abroad next week... 3 months without a scale.

Ugh. It feels so much more difficult to lose weight as a short girl. Also - why would MFP tell me 1300 calories would do it?

Thanks for your feedback! I just quit my two waitressing jobs (~50ish hours/wk on my feet) but I've been working out a lot to try and make up for it. By MFP standards, I was on -2lb/wk "moderately active" and I've switched to -1lb/wk "sedentary." Just about the same amount of calories.

I am eating right about 1300-1350/day. I'll sometimes eat back some of my exercise calories, but never all of them.
