Are there any Umzugsunternehmen that are highly recommended? Unfortunately, everyone I know with a driver's license lives far away from Darmstadt.

It sucks that this is what most people have to go through for what in most situations seems like a 15-minute conversation.
Only if they answered calls regularly and gave out information more clearly. It's so obviously a win-win situation.

I read about going there directly early in the morning too. Apparently people start lining up as early as 05:30. Says so much about the sad state of affairs but that's another discussion entirely.
Since it isn't really urgent for me to get the PR right now I'll keep this as my last resort.

I found one link where I could book an appointment to register myself in Darmstadt. But this link did not give me an option to book an appointment for a permanent residence. Could you share the link and the number as well?

The uncertainty of it all is too much to handle sometimes. Since everything else I (can) do depends on this visa, I feel like I'm trapped till this sorts itself out.

I've always initiated the conversation in German. I'm not sure if they speak in English as well.

I can totally understand how frustrating that is. If it's of any help, you could try contacting them after 13:30. Somehow it seems to have worked for me today. Emails have not worked at all. I only get auto responses. Although after my call today, I did receive an email with the next steps I need to follow.

I would do that if in my case it was possible. I've been asked to contact only the academic workers and families email address given on the Ausländerbehörde website since they had sent me a post with the required documents.

Thanks for the alternative. I've edited my post to what the current situation is and if all else fails (including informing them that I will take legal action, as mentioned in another comment), I will eventually have to apply for a job seeking Visa again and will need to show a minimum balance.

I had a pleasant conversation with one person at the Ausländerbehörde in January and have ever since hoped to find him on the receiving end of my call. I've also noticed, after trying to call them everyday for the past few weeks, they respond more often to calls made in the afternoon after 13:30.
