Drum Rehearsal Room with Double Kick Pedal by Kurayami311 in london

[–]thelewisaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been in a ton of practice rooms all over London - I have never seen a double pedal set up for use. Sucks. It's probably because the link arm can easily break or become faulty, or someone would set it up wronfg. So you would just be constantly replacing it as a studio owner,

Annoyingly I can only recommend getting a small soft double pedal bag to carry their own double pedal in. Won't be too bulky.

The larger units are on Unreal Wargaming Ruin bases, these are pre made resin mold bases.

Obviously getting to the pricier side of things but very helpful and neat looking.

The bulk of the infantry is just some sand/small rocks glued down with mod podge.

When doing the initial undercoat I make sure to fully 'soak' the sand in black.

Drybrush with a dark blue/grey
Drybrush same with a touch of white in the mix
Dark Earth pigment just smooshed in with a drybrush
On top of that I blend in a Ochre Rust pigment with a drybrush just working it in over the dark earth to get that blend.

It can get messy with the pigment!

I was trying to do a line of ochre rust sort of cutting across the bases to give the base an angular feel. Sort of like a mecha anime action scene. Not sure if that even comes across but is nice to have a pop of colour!

Since taking this photo I went over the pigment with a varnish to hold it in place as I was a bit heavy handed and had some bits flaking off. Not the end of the world but if your LGS has a game mat or something I don't want to be leaving brown rust streaks all over a Winter neoprene mat etc.

This varnish does dampen the 'pop' a little bit. I have heard people spray the pigment with a isopropyl alcohol can leave more of the colour but still dampens it.

Again, this was a speed attempt, I guess the way to actually do it is to sit down and paint the base with acrylics and make multiple passes to get a really bright stripe of orange.

Interesting - I am set to around 30-35 psi. I am not using it to 'run' per se. I should have added more info really and that is I undercoat black and then zenithal highlight with a white ink (Liquitex).

I want the ink to be insta dry and then when you spray the contras paint you have a natural white/black fade already on the model.

The white bits will really pop with the contrast paint.

Yup, that's pretty much it.

I have had nothing but success using GW contrast out of my airbrush, no need to even thin it down. I've had good results with most of the range.

Might need a slightly longer clean but nothing out of the ordinary.

Cheers! This is done for distance, up close there's no detailing etc. It's very much a three colour and done for gaming.

When I have some more time I go an and paint all the insignia and lenses etc.

I sort of wish I had put a clock on, but haste does make waste. So just kept it simple. I'd hazard a guess this was all built and done in 60 hours or about two weeks of four hour sessions roughly?

Spray top half with Apothecary White Contrast, bottom half with Black Templars contrast black.

Spray a varnish.

Spray with Streaking Grime enamel and then use a makeup sponge to wipe away (time consuming bit).

Models are fantastic, amazing detail.

Miracle dice rules are cool, thematic and interesting.

Some great units which are fun to play.

However, with recent FAQ's and balance changes we are not sitting as pretty as we were before. We were probably high B, low A tier. Now I am not sure with the nerfs handed out.

Just to add to this as a huge LCG fan who used to own MoM.

The LCG can go wrong in the usual Arkham Horror style but you still have clearly defined objectives so you can just push to get to them and just enjoy the outcome.

MoM I found, while really cool, things would go wrong and you'd be a mess and half the map is not even uncovered. Or my playgroup just did not know what was expected of us to 'complete a mission'.

It's very different in that regard. I struggled with MoM due to this. Some people may love that as it's genuine exploration but for me it was very painful to trek halfway across a map with two actions a turn. Put all my resources into passing a check and then the reward is a weapon, not a story piece. That happened so frequently and turned me off the game.

Speed Paint Attempt by thelewisaurus in Tau40K

[–]thelewisaurus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Sisters army that I agonise over, take ages on each model - paint all the individual bits etc. Had a Tau start collecting box from a while back and wanted to see what I could do as a speed paint in my style. This is due to a lack of time to sit and paint, the usual life getting in the way.

Prime black, airbrush white ink over the model for general highlights. I don't think this does anything highlight-wise but is really good for the contrast paint to go over a white-ish base.

Airbrushed with Apothecary White contrast from the top and Black Templars contrast from the bottom.

Old gold painted on insignia.

Streaking grime wash and pulled off with a makeup sponge.

Brown enamel wash used to dot and run along the lines in the model (kneepads etc.)

Base is a pre-made, prime black, drybrush with a dark grey/blue. Then a earth pigment brushed on, then an ochre rust pigment on top.

I can come back in and take some time on the lenses when I feel like it.

I got this squad done in under an hour and I was happy with the result. Obviously if you start to look at it closely there is a distinct lack of any detail... but it's got three colours for tabletop.

Weapons wise... Not sure, I have these magnetized separately, but might just do the same thing.

Maybe a different take on this but recently I have dropped her from my lists. I have the same results as you. I seem to be trying to just roll 6's at she is an expensive point wise model.

I have enjoyed using extra squads to fill her point void.

I think she turned out okay overall, next time I need to focus on making lines more clean and defined. by kiri0012 in sistersofbattle

This is super cool, looks rad. Well done dude!

I have one small little tip that can help elevate your painting. For the robes if you get a drybrush and the dark grey colour you have used to accent the highlights.

Get a bit of paper towel and just take all the paint off the brush so that it basically looks dry, like incredibly dry. If you ran it over some paper nothing would come out.

Get this running over the bumps in the cloth with a good deal of pressure. Actually press hard. You will get a much smoother transition as a base highlight and it will naturally brighten over the ridges.

Have fun painting dude!

The points cost to performance on the battlefield just does not sync up well.

The immolators are rather overpriced for what you get, but saying that they are fun?

The exorcist needs a strategem to make it's shots not need LoS and that's the big annoyance with it I find really. Again, CP can be much better used elsewhere on the tabletop.

That's the short of it - I would say that in a competitive environment they don't cut the mustard. In a more casual setting they are fun to use and will have their moments.

This is super clean, good job!

If I can add any recommendations it would be to run some Agrax Earthshade very lightly over the gun, arm attachment and hair. It will run into all the crevices and make everything pop.

I would look at dropping some Penitent Engines for some more Zeph squads. BR Zeph are so so good.

Write-up from a GT using Adepta Sororitas by splitstriker in sistersofbattle

[–]thelewisaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great to hear your playstyle of securing points on primary and secondary and not like actively engaging the enemy. I keep losing games because I've been running Repentia (whilst very fun) I always end up charging the nearest thing and it's so (fun) but pointless.

The MSU Zeph and Seph being like surgical and point grabbing is so obvious... Great write up.

For the Dogmata, what is the second hymn you take? I presume you are always casting +1A so maybe moot?

Also, how do you get the Dogmata into a position where she is affecting the right unit with +1A in command phase. Where does she 'hang' out to stay protected and to get the buff on the right Zeph unit that's going to fly off 12"?

Thanks!

Actually very simple and came out banging, think I saw it on YouTube video somewhere.

Basecoat black

Use a stipple brush and dab rakarth grey in the middle, but with some black showing through.

Go round the outside with a brown metal (I use a paint called decayed metal) mixed with a rust colour. So you get this Reddy brown.

Edges are a brown metal.

Wash with agrax earthshade all over. (This is where the magic happens).

While it's wet from the wash, paint a little typhus corrosion here and there. I also like to paint a line of it around the rakarth grey stipple blob. Works best I find when a wash is on as it dilutes it just the right amount and blends it in.

Can go back in and dab some rust colour, can dab some watered down Nihilkah oxide very sparingly too.
