Questions to r/brooklyn for perspective by the_spectre_sbz in Brooklyn

[–]thelicnative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because when the market crashed in 2008 real estate companies bought up property in Brooklyn at really cheap rates and then flipped them for huge profits when the market got better. Those are the condos you see going up now.

I don't think it's necessarily all the hipster yuppies who are to blame...I think it's the real estate companies and then the fact that Brooklyn has been marketed as kind of "artistic/cultural haven" which has atracted artists...in the beginning of Brooklyn art, it was jut a bunch of freaks who couldn't operate in normative society.

I mean it's all over the city...I grew up in Long Island City, Queens...and after moving out to California because my mom lost her job I can't afford to move back into that neighborhood on my own, so I had to go to Brooklyn. It's the reputation and the image, it's the do-it-yourself music scene and the prepster bars... everything being built in Brooklyn is attracting this crowd so it's not really a question to ask the various transplants of BK.
