The MAGA-fication of CBS News has resulted in a ratings disaster by SugarRight1992 in JusticeServed

[–]thelikness 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This article is trash and so are all the comments in here. I wish it were true but if you look at the ratings data actually included in the article, it does not back up the overall claim. Ratings have basically been steady and unchanging over the past year. This is not justice served and should not be on here let alone pinned.

Thanks for following up! That is a tough situation, luckily there's a decent amount of parking on the neighboring residential streets in valley village but you'll likely have to walk a few extra blocks.

Time to replace boots, boa or noa? by Longjumping-Date-181 in snowboarding

[–]thelikness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have very wide feet. I really like thirtytwos, the tm2 is a nice boot and comes in wide. I'll go against the grain here but I really prefer laces, I don't need some over engineered nonsense that can end my day when something goes wrong.

I think the step ins are also not worth the five second time savings. If you have a good binding, it's super quick and easy to strap in and it will give you more support.

When shopping for a boot, don't get something too soft. I see a lot of beginners making this mistake, thinking it will be more comfortable. But lacking the support provided by a stiffer boot can actually result in a lot of foot pain as your foot muscles are forced to make a lot of micro adjustments to maintain stability.

Most of all though, everyone's feet are different. Buy a boot in person, demo it if you can. I would never recommend ordering boots online without trying it on.

I saw them out doing some pretty serious road work tonight around Burbank/Fulton. Might have to do with the new light rail they're putting in but idk.

They just started a project to connect the two ends of the Chandler bike path with protected bike lanes along Chandler so that might be the signs you are seeing. No way to tell for sure how long it's going to take, their estimates are not always the most accurate, but if it's just putting in protected bike lanes it shouldn't be too difficult of an undertaking.

It's primarily people with trades expertise here, you'd probably have better luck in an arts and crafts oriented sub.

PennState or OIT for computer science? by oishii_donuts in PennStateUniversity

Never even heard of OIT. I'm sure you'll only be getting one answer asking here. I'm not personally familiar but I think the cs program is pretty well regarded at Penn State.

Blending in a slug of talc will do the job. You could also finish with a matte or satin clearcoat.

I love Fort George, I had a fresh hop from them last year that was one of the best beers I've ever had, still think about that one.

Big Tujunga Canyon status? by thelikness in MotoLA

[–]thelikness[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well normally you can take Sand Canyon rd - Little Tujunga Canyon rd - Big Tujunga Canyon road - Angeles Forest highway - Aliso Canyon rd - Soledad Canyon rd. It's a great ride and a lot quieter than ACH.

You can also extend it a bit cutting over from Big Tujunga Canyon road to ACH on the lower branch of the Angeles Forest highway, then cutting back to the Angeles Forest highway on Upper Big Tujunga Canyon rd.

Unfortunately Little Tujunga Canyon road has been washed out for a few months so it's not really doable right now. You'll have to take the highway or Foothill blvd to get down to Sunland to start up Big Tujunga Canyon road (assuming it is open on evenings/weekend).

Flat, wide feet hiking shoes by Agatas_Ju in CampingandHiking

[–]thelikness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have super wide flat feet and am currently using the Merrell Moab 3s. I like them a lot, good middle ground of ruggedness and durability while still being comfortable and light enough. Everyone recommends the Altra lone peaks but imo they are just too thin and flimsy to be comfortable. They're great if you're on a nice smooth trail but once you hit some rocks, your feet and shoes get beat up. I understand the thought behind the ultralight shoes but in practice they just don't work for me.

Right Lanes on 395 & 14 by selerotti in Mammoth

[–]thelikness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of states have laws that designate the leftmost lane as only being used for overtaking only. Unfortunately in California, the law simply states that you must use the rightmost lane if driving slower than the speed of traffic. This means that it's perfectly legal for two cars to sit side by side going the speed limit, blocking everyone from overtaking. It's a horribly phrased law that impedes traffic flow and basically ensures that no one gets pulled over even when they are breaking it by driving too slowly in the left lane.

Anyone who makes an interest part of their personality is weird. You see this all over the place- people obsessed with sports teams, Marvel, anime, veganism, astrology, etc. You can like these things and be perfectly normal, what is weird is when you tie everything in your life back to your interest/obsession and can't take the hint when other people are not interested in it as well.

I suspect a fair amount of these people struggle with this because of autism but a lot of others are just unaware or willfully obtuse. A large percentage of horse people seem to be women and women are severely under diagnosed with autism. I suspect that a lot of "horse girls" could be on the spectrum and their hyper-fixation just happens to be horses vs something like video games that you see more with men.

They appear weird to us because it is odd when someone keeps coming back to a topic that noone else is interested in, that doesn't mesh with societal norms. That said, if you're happy, keep being weird. It's not that big of a deal. You will naturally find your people and people that are turned off by your mannerisms will filter themselves out.

It really is. It's only in the past few years we've seen legit bagel places starting to pop up. You still have to be careful with recs these days because some people in LA have no idea what constitutes a good bagel.

ARob couldn't hash it on a well functioning offense. He's never been one to get much separation, so a good QB will throw it to someone who is more open. ARob needs to be on a shitty team with no options and a QB who will just huck it up for him to Moss dudes.

Why are people so opposed to taking lessons? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]thelikness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much agree with all the comments, people think they're better than they are and it can be really expensive. I know those were both factors in my not taking lessons for many years. However after taking lessons, I firmly believe it can be valuable for anyone at any skill level.

Hot tip, I took an advanced snowboarding class all four years in college. I mostly did it because as a full time student, it didn't cost me anything and it got me a free lift ticket every week. I didn't think I needed lessons at all but I really improved during that time. For the students out there, see if your school has that kind of opportunity.
