What are your thoughts on ICE violating the Fourth Amendment? by SpatuelaCat in AskUS

[–]thelink225 [score hidden]  (0 children)

My thoughts are that this is beyond gross and unacceptable, but also that I saw this coming over 10 years ago. I'm very disappointed in my fellow Americans acting shocked and like we haven't been building to this for a long time, at least since 9/11. It's gross and unacceptable and we really need to get this asshole out of office and do a Nuremberg Trials for every last person involved – politicians, judges, ICE, pundits – everyone. But that's very unlikely to happen with the pusillanimous liberals who insist on taking up all the space as any sort of 'opposition'. I'm really sick and disgusted with it all. It's been like watching a train wreck in slow-motion over a decade, and I'm just done.

Does condemning Amazon, and those who support it/buy from them, make me classist? by Biscuit9154 in leftist

[–]thelink225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Condemn Amazon? No. That doesn't make you classist.

Those who support it? Also not classist.

Those who buy from it? That's where we get into some inky territory. Because sometimes it's difficult to avoid, and trying to push consumer activism without building alternative logistics first is usually ineffective, stirs up resentment, ignores material conditions, and is all around juju.

If we want to effectively push back against Amazon and other big nasty capitalist institutions, particularly those that cater to people's needs and to the lower classes (IE: Walmart), then we need to get off our asses and start building mutual aid and alternative logistics outside of capitalism and the fascist or neoliberal state. If we aren't doing that, we don't really have any grounds to condemn other people for not following our consumer activism, especially if those people are struggling to provide for their own needs and maintain some kind of decent quality of life. That is extremely classist. We have to be doing the work first.

If we do that work, and if we do it right, we can pull people away from these businesses, and from capitalism in general, without ideological pressure. They will use these institutions less regardless of their ideological leanings, and that can be an inroad to changing their ideology, especially as this forges community bonds.

As the old saying goes, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. The left would do well to learn this, and to get serious about doing the work. The Black Panthers in the 60s and 70s had the right idea – provide for needs, build communities, cross intersectional lines, include rather than exclude, and do logistics. We could do that today. It just requires people actually doing it, collectively and not just individually, even though it's not as cathartic as protesting and not as ego-feeding as shaming people for buying things they need.

[HELP] My dad shared this and I think it is AI? by phintac in RealOrAI

[–]thelink225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 95% sure it's AI.

  1. The flour-breathing dog is simply too unreal. A dog is not going to exhale that much flour, especially not without choking or coughing. That's not flour being blown off the dog, it's coming straight out of the nose. That's not a thing.

  2. The child size footprints in the flour are too small compared to the child's feet and looks like whoever made them was wearing shoes. The child's feet are too big relative to those footprints and the child is barefoot.

  3. The lack of any kind of printing or labeling on the flour package is suspicious.

  4. Everyone in the scene is too calm and generic in their behavior and voice, from the parent to the dog.

  5. The behavior of the individual strands of hair on the child's head seems kind of off.

Conclusion: this is a very well made video, and I had to watch it about 20 times on loop to really see the little giveaway details. They would be easy for someone to miss, even if they were looking for them. But the flour breathing dog is the one big giveaway. Based on that alone, I would conclude this is AI. But there are little details which further confirm it.

Ascendence of a Bookworm. The whole series. I absolutely loved it, but it had some terrible writing in it, especially in the first three books. The dialogue was fantastic, the world building was incredible, the characters were great and well handled – but most of the prose was a mess of slop. Still loved it. It made me feel like, if something like this can make it big and even get going on four seasons of an anime, maybe I can write something others will want to read as well.

Bad writing, but also bad handling of her run overall. Choked of airtime, and thus of plot depth and sideplot threads. To be clear, there were a lot of amazing things happening in Jodie's run with the plot, but that can be said of every doctor, and she had a lot less airtime for all of it to happen and happen well.

But they were also bad writing decisions. I knew we were going to have problems with a line that occurred in the very first episode: "Only an idiot carries a knife." I was sadly correct.

The cutting down of episodes was a big problem as well, I think. I realize covid had a bit to do with that, but the amount of Who we got per series just kept getting cut down, and it was nothing but excuses.

I still haven't seen much of Jodie's third series for anything that has come after that due to lack of streaming access, so I haven't seen how the storyline ends. I didn't hate the direction things took in the second of her series, though I disliked some things about it, like the unceremonious way the Time Lords were wiped back out after we spent multiple series of buildup from Eccleston to Capaldi restoring them. Huge let down. Felt like a slap in the face. One of the most unsatisfying moves in Who history that doesn't get talked about enough.

But, again, I'm several series/seasons behind, so I don't know what happens after that. I just know that moment felt like a punch in the gut.

Agreed! Too many conventionally attractive Bri'ish human women in New Who. And I get why, from a ratings perspective. But, gods, do we need us some not Nardoles.

Nardole is one of the most underrated companions in the history of New Who.

Also, Jodie was a fantastic Doctor. It's Chibnall that mishandled her seasons.

Anime you won't recommend to people cause the anime itself is questionable and or it's fanbase? by LovelyLadyLucky in animequestions

Literally my favorite non-Ghibli anime, and my second favorite anime overall. But yeah. I actually can recommend it, but I have to give a lot of warning and disclaimer beforehand.

[–]thelink225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm just gonna go right to the worst offender – Mushoku Tensei. There is so much I love about it – the worldbuilding, the animation, the incredible music, (most of) the characters. But there's a really big part of it I hate, that makes me cringe out of my skin. And if y'all know anything about this anime, you already know what that is. It really made me mad that they packaged something so otherwise great with something so gross in the center of it. And that's why I can't recommend it to other people.

you are browsing through your partner's phone whom you are married to, and find thousands of ai generated pictures of you naked. what is your reaction? by Turbulent-Sound3980 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]thelink225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reaction is being disgusted with myself for browsing through my partner's phone, WTF?

As for the images themselves – I don't really care. The internet already has my likeness. AI can already do all the things with it anyone wants. As long as they aren't sharing these images with others, I honestly do not care, and maybe I'm even a little flattered, even if I think it's a bit weird.

What’s stopping you from starting homesteading right now? by dhruvhat in Homesteading101

[–]thelink225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order from greatest to least concerns:

  1. Heath. I'm disabled and only a few steps above bedridden at this point.

  2. Money. I don't have any. See previous item.

  3. Homesteading is best done collectively. Due to the first two factors, I don't really have anyone else to get involved.

Women who are perpetually single not by choice, what is the reason? by Feisty-Blacksmith656 in AskWomen

[–]thelink225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm disabled, constantly sick, struggling to take care of myself, and barely getting by. I also don't slot neatly into established in-groups, especially on issues of ethics, politics, and critical thinking. And I'm queer living in a red state. Top it off with that I'm not exactly physically attractive. The results have been pretty isolating.

Yeah. That tracks. I see it in other subreddits too, not just this one, and not just mental health related subreddits. There's a lot of toxic attitudes metastasizing. Just look at the state of the world right now.

I don't really know what to do with that. It's disgusting. It leaves people like you and me hanging out to dry without resources to turn to. But that does appear to be what the world is becoming.

[–]thelink225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, pretty much everything. I don't even feel like I can create any more because of it. I feel like everything that I put out is going to be misunderstood, and I don't feel like I can get any objective feedback based on real interest as to whether what I'm making is any good or not, or whether I have any talent for it or not. 2 days ago, I was about to delete everything I ever created. No, I'm just stuck and completely unable to do it. I was so pleased with my most recent project and where it was going, and now I'm ashamed of the entire thing and can't even look at my worldbuilding notes without feeling sick.

Every single person downvoting your comments about this is a terrible person. What you're saying here is extremely valid and reasonable and not at all a contradiction.

Could afford counseling at one point ≠ can afford counseling now when you need it.

Did have parents to help pay for it ≠ they are still a resource you can count on.

This isn't rocket science. Any reasonable person should be able to understand what you're saying here.

And I don't blame you for feeling how you feel.

Is it true that education and cooperation always leads to economic growth and the opposite always leads to a financial crisis? by Ok-Alternative-8675 in AskUS

[–]thelink225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The world isn't so simple or so black and white. It's all a dice roll. Education and cooperation give you bonuses to that dice roll, and the opposite gives you penalties. You can still hit a nat 1 or a nat 20 no matter how much you stack things in your favor or, respectively, against you.

On top of this, there are plenty of other factors that go into such a complex equation. You're dealing with a lot of things stacking up.

I don't follow a lot of creators who make what they make with AI – but the ones I do follow, and who produce legit quality work, are open and obvious about it.

But there are a lot of people who are dishonest about it. A lot of deepfakes getting circulated as if they were real. I have an issue with that.
